- Hey guys! Welcome back to another video in our vlog series! We're on job #6 for 2022, but not off to the best of starts... I was locked in self isolation due to being a close contact.
During that time I also made a few purchases that you can see in the video, from new jointers, to extendable profiles!
With that being said, in todays video, we make our first appearance on a Saturday in the new year, finishing off some work that wasn't completed during the week.
We also cover the money side of things in bricklaying, as it is an area often asked in our videos. We talk about the rates we are getting Down Under, as well as the hourly rates in bricklaying.
We hope you enjoy this video, and if you want to see more content like this in the future, drop a like and SUBSCRIBE!

leaving a comment for support, great to see aussie brickies showing the world how we do it
Extendable profiles are a game changer for profit and quality good stuff mate.
Excellent vlog. It's great to see a young bloke doing well. The brickwork looks great, full credit to you. Have you ever watched Chalie Collison a bricklayer from England he's a master bricklayer and he gives so many tips on RUclips to other bricklayers. Well worth watching. Have a great day.
Thank you so much. Take good care of yourself.

Hi bro, I’m engineer and working for Australia company, I want to know how many type of brick use built for the house? Such as maxi brick 190, solid or cored and what ‘s difference of them about value, compression capacity and bending capacity, and cost between type of brick, so great video, hope we are keep touch for design in the office and built house on site.
Get yourself a pressure washer for your mixer. Just the cheapest from bunnings. Makes the mixer nice and clean
Subbed from Scotland, just keeping an 👁️ on your 🧱 😂
Great channel. I really enjoy your videos. You do a great job. Nice clean work and good attitude. Thanks for sharing your skills. About the price, when you say for example 1.30 per brick is that labor, mortar, bricks, sand all included? Just curious what the rate is for just the actual labor if you don't mind my asking. Have a great day.
Hey there! Thanks for that! So the rates I said usually include supply and lay, however not all builders are the same and sometimes may have a higher rate but not supply anything!
Another great video.
What about footings, would you do them?
We have done a lot here in Ireland with the bloody heavy blocks .😅 Last year before the Winter we were doing only footings for 2 months. (the Builders wanted to get it done before the wet and cold.) It was back braking.
Love to watch on Saturday morning with a cup of coffee ☕. 👋
Hey there János! The brickwork here is different, or to my experience at the moment. We lay veneer brickwork to slab on ground. If I ever do footings, I'll have to get it on camera! Thanks for watching our videos!
And Ty, do you need to use a steel-mesh or something to attached to the concrete where is the cavity?
Yes! Steel mesh for the concrete, and the cavity for veneer brickwork is a 40mm cavity between the brickwork and the stud frame
Lovely, thanks for the answer😊 ,and enjoy the rest of the week guys.🤗
Nice vid
Hi,
Non brickylayer questions
Q1.
what are the rates in nsw (2024)
Sounds like payment by qty of bricks and wage also? Can you please explain this?
Q2. Do you do pick and dip - does the next layer up fill the top in this process?
I'm learning bricklaying 🇬🇧
get a sawdust shovel with a long handle, 2.5 meters or more, they can swing mud up easily with that, tell them not to fill the sawdust shovel.
Get the marshalltown sledge runner great bar
Good man keep do what you doing 🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️
i had to stand on the wheel barrow to hit mud boards 14ft high thats 10 years ago. Milk crate makes your life easier labour makes your life easier. Milk crate is a cheap labourer
make a rebar joiner for the drier mud.
Just Subscribed 🇬🇧
I'm 42 So about 27 years into clearing a K a week every week to pay off I my house Fine editing I must say amazing even to learn from u too, £1 65 a block £0.60 a brick, so I'm looking to put in 152 Blocks to hit my Marks, Brick I put in a pack today Started at 7 finish at 1:30 the money 💰💰 is out there Bro 👊🏻 Keep doing what you're doing so I can watch u on the big Screen 😄😄😄🇬🇧🇬🇧👍🏻👍🏻My Mrs likes Bracks is it? From Home and Away 😄💸💸💸💸👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻🙂👌👌🇬🇧
Hi Ty, could you tell me what bricks you are using as we are building and I love this brick colour. Would love to use these on our our new house.
Hi there, thanks for watching and sorry for the late response! The brick used in this build was Ironstone from Selkirk Bricks.
@@bricksbyty Thanks so much Ty, really appreciate it.
How do you smudge the faces so bad, won't get away with that in uk
in Sydney at the moment a bricklayer is earning between $400 or $350 commercial sites $300 a day.. labourers get $250 or $300 a day for a single story’s a $1:40 Per brick for a double story $1:60 per brick with some places with the mud board you try and make people life easy if you help the bricklayer … the bricklayer will help you in favour cheers 🍻
Good to know what the rates are around the rest of Australia! Puts things into perspective. Thanks for watching our videos!
I thought there's brick rate may be higher in sydeny, 2.5$ for redered wall 3$ for face wall in perth. But here midland maxi special bricks used and we build double brick house
Save your back that’s the most important thing trust me
Do you guys not mortar board stands in Australia?
Yeah! We use them on the ground runs
Playing with cross joints to much to fill them.
Put a milk crate under the muddy and get the apprentice a longer shovel lol its not harder from a laboring perspective its just part of the job lol each to their own but 🤙
I said the same thing to him a couple weeks ago I think if he tries it once he'll see how much better it is than reaching down to your feet to get mortar
@@richardstetson8221 gotta look after the back mate
Defo. He's a young fit guy. But his back will last longer with higher boards
Ive heard Aussies dont like english bricklayers, is that true?
Hi mate when you say $1.10-$1.50 a brick is that supply and lay or to just lay?
Hi there, just to lay!
@@bricksbyty thanks very much for the reply. Keep up the good work!
turn that clamp on the profile around so it doesn't stick out.
Is it all timber frame houses iin aus ?
Hey there! Mostly yes.. from what I've seen so far
Apart from perth, most houses is double brick in perth
Hi mate . Could you please make a video as to how you calculate the quantity of the bricks including walls , sills for the whole house ?
Thanks
You just take the blueprints and do the math. Take the whole square footage and then subtract all the openings. There ya go
@@craftgarrett1 Thanks mate .
If want to configure conversion , go by gold, not fiat.
They should be able to throw mud up 6' .
The rate should match a litre of petrol.
How long is a bricklayer apprenticeship in Victoria?
Hi there, 3 years!
put the roof on first and build the walls after
Mud should be raised if they can't do it you need new tenders.
Im in england, my boss reckons he only gets £0.70 a brick you basically getting £1 a brick which is amazing
Might want to have a word with your boss again! See what the rates are around your local area!
Should be a minimum £1 per brick for finished work. Just greedy subbies want to 50-60p,s lol
Allahuma Ahfaadhuum🏫
Hey bud
Is there a koala on site for the workers ?
You know what im takling about
Hey there! Not quite sure what you mean exactly!
I work in the Eastern Suburbs $77+ per hour. If you want to make some serious money get away from the volume home builders.
Hey there! Wouldn't be a bad idea! Maybe when I have more experience running a business first... still very young!
Couldn’t agree more. It’s not all about how many bricks a day. Specialised skilful tradesmen are hard to find and can command big bucks in private domestic work.
nice bloke . how comes you smear the perps with your trowell? will leave less marks :)
Hey there! I try to fill in my perps so that I don't have to do it later when I joint up. In saying that, filling it with the jointer later would be neater!
@@bricksbyty we would get shot here for that lol .. all the best m8
@@thomaswooding8096 Hi
I'm a bricklayer in Nigeria. Could you be of help to me?
1.20 Ireland a brick

How to apply in your company mate? It's need a proper schooling for bricklaying mate?
Hi there! You'll need to be based in Melbourne
@@bricksbyty bricklaying needs proper schooling in Australia mate? I don't have any experience in bricklaying before.
Yes, there is a Certificate III in Bricklaying & Blocklaying that you can undertake in Australia to become a bricklayer!
Perth paying 2 dollars plus per brick
i think you will change your mind about muck boards when ur 30+
Man your scaff is low enough to boost up your board
What are brickies labouers earning in Australia?
I like to job

you want five people for doubles.
To make money you need employees.
$2.50 to $3.00 a brick in W.A mate boom happening here 👌
That’s awesome. More double brick over there.
That’s a serious price mate
2boys 1000 bricks a day easy money,Is the heat not a killer there though mate
Hey there! That's over double to what we earn down this way, must be good to be a bricky over there!
Are those the clay blocks or actual 230 x 110 x 86 bricks? It can't be that high for a normal brick, must be those blocks
It's the going rate most homes in w.a are built with maxi bricks . Standard bricks are rare , Also double skin walls here as well . Few years back it was 80c a brick .
Learn at trade-school.
Most people think it's just laying a brick U have to build the whole house they have absolutely no idea how much is involved. $10 a brick should be the going rate.all the builders and sellers are making hundreds of thousands of dollars. Stop working let them build all there houses .80 cents a brick is for free. Now all of a sudden gone up a little even a $160 is crap
Getting £625 A 1000
Save your body ty get a smallet trowel bud
You play with the beds to much.
Bricklayer should be getting $10 a brick.every one else is making hundreds thousands of dollars.all bricklayer should stop working.then U can name your price. Instead they keep working for free.
No brick ties.
Speally U very slow at laying. U will never make your money
To much talking and not enough brick laying.
Its pretty unheard for a bricklayer to be making 35- even 40’s in sydney.
Labourers get paid 30-40
It starts at 45-60 for residential and goes up till like 80 for the union sites including allowances
