Now with the cooler weather in Texas Don is out riding his Harley and all the time thinking about that Everlast welder trapped in that shipping box.....🤣
That's a beautiful looking finish. I've had great results with Rustoleum stuff. I refinished a 1943 Cincinnati universal horizontal mill with their hammered finish - unbelievable! I stocked up on cans from the local home mart. When I was a kid (50+ years ago) I remember my dad would spray on a shellac and, 3 weeks later, the entire object was covered in potato chips. Our technology sucked back then! Modern finishes are a marvel. In addition to astonishing protection, they can even reproduce a convincing hammered appearance entirely by chemical ingenuity. My old man would be so impressed! I put that sh1t on everything!
I used it on telescopes for year and I like it... I still spray all my straight edges with it ;) The spray in the paint is fantastic, I use the Professional paint ( big silver cans) that I get at lowe's It's sprayer suckes compaired to this one!
There aren't any really... I looked two months ago and none in stock... More importantly they have now officially gone over the price I am willing to pay.
Great to see you carving out some time to finish this project. Just need to come up with a plan that Don can't refuse to get him to trade you his vertical slotter.
I used "hard hat" paints from Rust-oleum for years, before I retired in 2014. I used that color plus, cream and aluminum colors to maintain equipment appearance. Ron W4BIN
From the publisher "After escaping wrongful imprisonment, a mysterious storyteller enters an abandoned railroad spur on the outskirts of New York City, Christmas Eve, 1893. In exchange for some hobo stew, "O.P." entertains a rag-tag mix of seemingly lost souls by spinning a few tales, and in the process rekindles the spirit of giving. He magically transforms the crew into players to stage O. Henry's "The Last Leaf" and "The Gift of the Magi," and others. Wordplay, trickery, sentimental holiday fare, this is a heartwarming alternative to all of those Christmas carols. " I play an Old Artist who is a Cynic, Grouch, Smart ass and has the biggest heart of all.... I absolutely LOVE my part, so many great speeches and right up my alley ! Set as a one LONG one act play ( we are dividing it into to acts because the audience can not possibly hold it that long ) in a old Bronx ally in 1880...
I would be pleasantly surprised maybe even shocked if that is available as a replacement part.. That would be nice but it's got the look of part of an "assembly"... Good luck.

Bees are getting ready for winter here... Only harvested about 50 gallons this year, drought had a big impact. We are doing OK, Don has been busy building his shop addition so have not done much together this year... Thanks for asking ;)
Well Don's Idea of painting is just that, Painting! The prepwork is all on me... And with this new found paint I can easily spray a few parts as they are ready with no fuss.....
No, An Ol Henry Christmas.... I play Dinty, a somewhat older artist living with 8 other down and out people in Brooklin alley in 1880.... Figured he would not have much money for a regular haircut :)
20:20 masking, alot of this I use grease on the areas close to the paint. Any overspray I buff off with a flap wheel 80 grit? I found that you cannot clear the nozzle and tube. Have to use the WHOLE can, otherwise the paint will harden rendering the can useless. Nice work Steve!! Just a loyal viewer.
If you invert the can and spray out the nozzle and tube it connects to inside the can, the paint should remain fresh and the rest shouldn't clog. You do waste some but better than the whole can.
At 11:05 you are talking about your driveshaft. Did you try an everyday driveshaft repair service? They could probably build a complete driveshaft from scratch if you need to do that much to get back to straight & balanced.
The cost would be a lot.... The parts I need is 107.00 from Chevy no less.... It comes with the seal, nut , the broken piece and a few other things... I have been looking at other truck I see parked today and none of them have this piece.. I guess they were older than 2020... They all had the standard yoke and bearing that has been used for years.... I keep wondering why they changed to this piece....
@@10swatkins That ring is probably an anti-resonance weight designed for a specific frequency of oscillations? (over-drive at 65mph?). Why it is there is just a question for an engineer at this moment. The practical problem at hand today is that some force was applied to your driveshaft that caused this weight to become disconnected from its engineered location. That force probably damaged the DS tube in the interaction with that crate that tried to eat your truck. Your DS is most probably bent and is currently, actually, bent by a few thousandths up to something visibly bent. I was told by a driveline shop that even just a dent in the tube throws the whole thing out-of-whack, (coaxially bent and balance). A modern DL shop could stock your needed parts or possibly re-attach (?) your current dislodged parts. It is possible that the ring you are looking at is actually the outer ring of a 3-piece harmonic damper assembly, similar to the damper on the front of an engine, and has lost its rubber middle section, allowing its current state of being. Maybe a late model salvage yard for current model parts could supply a complete DS or a core DS to recover a complete intact damper for a DL shop to recreate a new DS unit? Good Luck Steve.
@@10swatkins Since it appears (reading other responses revealed), that this is attached to the differential(?), not the driveshaft, once removed, it will need to go through a setup procedure for a new ring + pinion. There is a part inside the differential unity called the 'CRUSH RING', that was sized exactly for this DIF + 'this' part. A 'new different' part will require a different crush amount, which is determined by the setup procedure. Again, a late model salvage yard and a modern driveline shop required, (Possibly a race car builder that can setup a rear end assembly, it's not rocket science, just specific details and tools). Again Good Luck.

It is supposed to be a rubber torsional dampner for the driveline. Lucky for you it mainly has to do with noise reduction.
I still can't get one!
I was thinking of getting one of those lift tables, but when I saw that our version of Harbor Freight wanted $600.00 for one, I changed my mind.

I suggest you make a deal with Don , let him unbox and play with that new everlast welder if he paints the Bridgeport?
Oh no! He classifies "Painting" as the application of paint Period! All the 5 hours of prep are not included.....
I’ve seen those driveshaft dampers on the old S10 pickups.
I am wondering why they decided they need them now?

You'ld think they'd have enough stock of that part to last a month and a half. Strike started September 15, 2023.
Not a single dealer in Texas has it and none of the auto parts can order it because of the strike :(
