      @@iaincowell9747 It may seem strange, but the guy above is right... Higuita himself told in an interview that he only tried the save because he saw the linesman raising his flag for offside. Then, as he did the save, the referee didn't confirm offside. I really don't know who could be in offside position, probably the english forward in the middle of the penalty area...

    Fun fact: Both home and away audiences were booing at their teams cause the match was incredibly boring.
    Higuita said in an interview that he did this to give them their money's worth. 25 years later and it's still relevant. Gotta admire this guy.

      The ref blew is whistle before this. If the ball went in the goal, it wouldn’t of counted. The keeper heard the whistle and knew he could take the chance.

      @@jordantodd1542 he was not arrested for “running a kidnapping ring”. Pablo Escobar had kidnapped Carlos Molina’s daughter and Rene acted as the go between and delivered the ransom money. He was jailed because he was then paid for his services and assistance, which he initially refused but ultimately took. It was illegal to take such money since it was considered “assisting with a kidnapping”.

    I was 11 at the time and I clearly remember my dad, who's Colombian, being OBSESSED with this when it happened. He used to call it 'the mule' for some reason, which made it hard for me to look it up when I was randomly reminded of it from a trick-shot video, but I have incredible nostalgia seeing it again all these years later.

      It was called "The Mule" because it referred to a mule kicking with its hind legs. But the way the body is in the air and the feet are up, which reminded a scorpion when it attacks with its sting, it was called "The Scorpion Kick"

    Watched that live at tv as a young teenager. Higuita was at that point notorious for his tricks and effect plays, but that was so unpredictable and fun. Higuita is always remembered and well-liked here in Brazil

    This guy was amazing to watch, you just never knew what he was gonna do next, so unpredictable!! I remember in the World Cup 1990 when he suddenly thought he was an outfield player and got dispossessed by the Cameroon guy!!! He made some howlers that's for sure, but he also done some incredible things!!!! Higuita is a goalkeeping legend.

      +Ian Kiil would have been a goal, even if someone was offside that player was not being played in. it was a clear shot on goal and if he missed it would have stood. i imagine the score margin was very big for the keeper to be this brave.

      The ref had already blown for an offside I believe, I feel it was set up with redknapp as it looked a deliberate chip ..just right for him, but to carry it out takes skill

    Colombian here. An interesting fact about the Scorpion Kick: Colombians were already familiar with the move before this game at Wembley because Higuita performed it on a TV commercial. He had also performed it during a few training sessions, but had yet to attempt it during a game.

      @@AJWRAJWRthey made the “Higuita Rule” because of him. It is a decision to ban goalies from picking up a back pass with their hands.
