The way how Luigi is I feel his pain. This is how I am back in the day when I was in middle school and high school. Whenever I've been trying to be friendly, nice, loving, and caring. People usually laugh, teasing, mocking, taunting, insulting, and make fun of me all the time just because I have autism and they think I'm ugly, gross, and weird. Usually when people do that to me it's usually some guys but mostly it's usually the girls. But they never put the hands on me.

A) Don’t forgive someone who doesn’t truly deserve it. They have to earn it.
B) Some people hurt others when they were hurt themselves and this is their way of coping. Find out what happened to them at their own paste and see what you can do with professional help.
C) Some people don’t want to be saved and just want the attention / comfort of a caring person who will always cuddle their horrible behaviors / personal gain or any combination of the three listed.
while im not particularly cool with ppl making ships abusive i find it absolutely hilarious that bowuigi is considered weird when a whole bunch of people (straight men especially) went Gaga over Bowsette who was literally just genderbent bowser in peach cosplay.
Yeah, I haven't seen the Mario movie so I can't really comment on their dynamic there, but it sorta makes sense from the game's perspective. Bowser is overbearing with affection because he doesn't really understand how to properly express it, and Luigi is starved of validation and gentle/nervous. Theoretically, they could be good for each other. Luigi would take the edge off of Bowser and Bowser would give Luigi a confidence boost. On the other hand though, it's *really* easy for that dynamic to turn sour.

I for one am kinda glad Nintendo stayed away from the old trope that Mario was kind of a dick to luigi. Their interactions in the movie are so wholesome

I can understand why people would dislike bowuigi, however people shouldn't bash others who do. The ship isn't toxic, it is only toxic unless you make it toxic, and the majority of bowuigi content is wholesome and not abusive at all. It is portrayed as the enemies to lovers trope, where the bad guy changes and becomes a better person. And people might say its out of character but it’s honestly very common in ships for the characters to be portrayed a bit differently from their canon counterparts, which is fine. Fan content will always portray characters differently from their canon forms. Another example of a very popular enemies to lovers ship would be Scaramouche(Wanderer) x Mona from Genshin Impact. Scaramouche is a huge asshole to Mona and is implied to have been willing to kill her, and they both clearly dislike each other, yet it is a very popular harmless ship that is not portrayed as abusive and that is fine. Another example would be Gwen x Kevin from Ben 10, Kevin being a former villain, and Danny x Valerie from Danny Phantom. The ship is basically a what if scenario, a fan fiction. Of course it will never happen but it is a fun ship to have fun with due to its interesting scenarios.
I bet Bowser is only antagonizing him so he can get hit and grow back to full size.
