Tlx Type S RB Performance Brakes 2 piece lightweight rotor upgrade

- Опубликовано: 8 сен 2024
- Acura tlx Type S Racing brakes lightweight 2 piece rotor step by step install. On this video I share my personal opinion why these are great addition to the platform. It’s no secret that the type s is significantly heavier then it’s competition so we must take advantage of weight savings anywhere we can. These offer 15.7 lbs of rotational unsprung weight loss.
Parts pending:
Prl front mount
Swift springs
Wheels
I don’t have any info on release dates on the prl stuff but as soon as something as announced I will share. Also don’t have any info on k tuner, all I know is that they are under beta testing so unfortunately we will all have to be patient with the slow roll out of the support for the platform, but it finally seems we are catching some traction In that aspect.

Thx for weighing it , hard to find a video showcasing the weight difference 👍🏻
I like to provide as much info as possible
Love the tlx content. Not enough people giving this platform attention
Agreed
I love this video!
Thank you!
Very cool. Looks like they were released for the MDX too. I'd like a cross drilled/slotted version as well. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the link on this video

Great video as always man. Can't wait for the rest of the upgrades !
Thanks for watching dude. Our patience is paying off
@@BCautosolutions little by little but it’s indeed paying off.
@@dcasiano92 💯
Very informative video bro….looking forward to you breaking your previous record. 💪🏼
Thanks, I try to be as informative as possible without dragging out too much.
As always, great video
Thank you 🙏🏻
goodies comming in hot.. can't wait to to the improvements these mods make. after the front mount comes in will you do a before and after using the draggy?
Yes. Espeically as temps warm up there will be a difference vs my winter passes.
I was thinking of getting the 2 piece rotors from the IT-S, and keep the rear stock. Since i auto X / track use my Aspec
Not sure if it’ll work due to rotor height difference.
@@BCautosolutions darn it, would of been a way cheaper route and keeping it OE…
@@just_Dario yeah that’s for sure.
Very nice rotors, I'm at 4500 miles so I don't know when I'll need new ones but I definitely want slotted
Thanks, not everyone will warp them but I believe most will due to the weight of the car and poor cooling design (pretty common in other Hondas/acuras) these are slotted and drilled, although more options will hopefully be available soon. Thanks for watching
@@BCautosolutions Thank you for the content, I'll definitely be looking for more options
Carbotech makes one set of stree pads and a bunch of tracks pads
Yes, they offer a few options 👍🏻
After compressing the pistons, how do you get the pads to make contact with the rotors again? Is it any different with the electro-servo brakes, or do you just pump them up like you would a traditional hydraulic brake system?
Also good to know for the rears that we can unbolt/disconnect the parking brake motor to compress the caliper piston back, which is handy for people that don’t have a tool to put it in service mode.
Yes exactly. Just take them out of maintenance mode with scan tool and then pump the brakes as your normally would.
Thanks for the video. I have a somewhat related question. I have an MDX Type S and a set of 19x8.5x55 rims sitting around which I could use for winter time. Would they clear the brembo brakes?
Yes, they will
@@BCautosolutions These are the stock wheels from 2023 MDX Base. I was not sure if the spokes would clear the caliper. Diameter wise, I knew that it wouldn't have been an issue. Thanks!
Have you added their pads yet? Wondering if you could do a comparison between stock pads vs street pads vs track pads
Yea I have their street pads front and rear and have been great
Great videos man. I have a question, I just got a 2022 MDX type s. It has the same engine as your tlx type s. My question is can the same mods you are applying to you car be applied to the MDX? (Throttle body, air filter).
Yes, the air filter I believe is the same and as far as I know the intake manifold and throttle body as well. I tried to look and cross match the parts but the mdx catalog isn’t up yet publicly
@@BCautosolutions yea I’ve been looking everywhere and no one has parts for it yet. But I would assume it’s the same being the exact same engine. I can’t have a stock type s regardless of model of vehicle. I’m going to get wat is out there for the tlx and see if it would fit.
@@Funnysquad-ps1ew yeah I hear ya. I think engine wise most should fit no issues. Please do keep me posted tho 👍🏻
@@BCautosolutions will do. I’m going to order the air filter and throttle body this weekend.
Super informative. Thanks for your vids bro, helping me a lot with my build. Where are you located? Looking to get the down pipe you’ve got.
I’m trying to be easy on my brakes but I had this concern. Will def upgrade when time comes
Thanks for watching! I’m in jersey. The guy who made my downpipe insnt intrested in making any more but there a few guys around here that would.
@@BCautosolutions yeah i need someone in jersey too. I brought it to a few places and they're totally clueless

@@robdswingingcrypto6228
I'm interested in making these. I thought I'd buy a type s just to make parts for it. I'm a TIG fabricator and machinist. I'd need an example to make a CAD model first, then you can worry about the fabrication aspect. I'm in Wisconsin though.
Nice job man. You have a link for the springs? I ordered the tein ones but I’m not sure if I was to wait until august

Were these customs? I checked their web site and they don't have them. 😪
Here you go, they now have front pads as well.

@@BCautosolutions Thanks man 🤙
Hi, do these fit the MDX Type S? Thank you in advance!
Yes they should
HI ! I bought a new 2023 Acura tlx type S a month ago and I have already having problem with the brake system. I started the car today. The car front panel lit up in red and said brake system malfunction. And it stated the car need to be towed to the closest dealership to be checked. .The car shut down and won't start. I lived here in Central Ca and I purchased the car from Acura Pleasanton w/c is Northern California about 200miles away from where I lived. I wonder if the car I bought is a Lemon Car or defective. Another issue I have is the whole navigation screen went blank after refuelling gas .Also the capless gas cap at times Ive been having problem refuelling gas into the tank. My local dealership check this already and ordering the parts of it to be replaced but now the main issue is the brake system failure. The car has only 1700miles and 1 1/2 months old . I wondering if someone experience this kind of problems.. Please help . Thank you in advance for replying.
Sorry to hear your having issues, I haven’t heard of any of the same issues your are having. Definitely sounds like you need to get it towed and checked out. The infotainment screen going black could very well be the known and very annoying fakra connectors.
I will call the dealership in the morning and arrange the car for towing. Thank you so much for the quick reply.
@@edwinabuel324 lmk how it goes. Good luck
@@BCautosolutions I will update you. Thanks again.

Any new updates on how the rotors are wearing.
So far so good. Waiting on rb to send me rear test pads then I’ll do a follow up video 👍🏻
What's the real torque for the calipers. Guy from heel toe auto said 50ft lbs, and you're saying 100ft lbs
It’s 100
@@BCautosolutions thank you, I appreciate the response
@@jromero925ify anytime, any more questions feel free to ask
Have you ever used Continental Conitech timing belt/water pump kits? If yes, do you like them.
I’ve used them. It’s not bad but I prefer oem
@@BCautosolutions thank you.
My OEM belt went 125,000 miles. I would never try to swap something out so critical.
What makes these lighter than OEM? Also, by cutting down on rotor weight, wouldn’t this reduce the total heat capacity? So these rotors are significantly better at removing heat quickly?
The material used for the most part, overall diameter and wheel design. The rotors are directionally vented and are actually thicker, the weight loss is mostly due to part of the hats.
@@BCautosolutions when will we get an update.
@@133levi I’ve actually installed their pads as well. Been on the for 2 weeks but then got sick and delayed the video.
@@BCautosolutions hope you get better bro.
So, what is your opinion on the weight of those y spoke wheels? Those wheels are honestly so amazing looking to me, but from what I've researched they weigh about 30 pounds which is ridiculous, in my opinion. They look amazing though. Just hard to swallow paying over 2 grand for factory wheels that weigh 30 pounds.
In the size I have 19x9.5 + 36 they weigh 25 lbs each. Don’t know how much the stock 20” y spokes rims themselves weigh but the stock wheel/tire combo was 60lbs my current combo is 50lbs. The oem multispoke/all season tire combo is 66lbs which is a significant difference.
@@BCautosolutions I'm confused. I thought they only came in one size? Only other oem wheels I seen like that were fronts off nsx, but I thought those were 5x114.
@@BCautosolutions Ya, I would imagine it would be. I like that you said the lighter brakes feeling might be psychological, because noticing unsprung weight sometimes can be, but personally, I feel lighter wheels you can definitely tell. Did you notice much difference in acceleration switching to the lighter wheels?
@@alucarus6 so these cars come with the multi spoke wheels 66lbs a pop and y spokes (what my came with) 60lbs each. My current wheels are 50lbs wheel/tire combo. It’s hard to say and I didn’t have any testing from similar ambients temps last year and now I’ve added a front mount intercooler and piping só the test won’t be a true apples to apples comparssion but I will definitely be testing soon.
@@BCautosolutions Oh. Gotcha. You have different wheels now. I thought you were saying those current wheels in the video were 25 pounds. I just love the way those look, but can't justify the weight for the price. Thanks for all the feedback!
When will you get a tune for it bro?
Hopefully soon. That’s out of my control
When are you going to do a JB4 install?
Im not, Im waiting for k tuner to be available
@@BCautosolutions Is it ever going to be available is the question.
@@300zxdriver yes, eventually. Good things takes time to develop.
