This shit drives me nuts when looking for retrospective videos or whatever and it's just a guy narrating the entire game and that's it. Sometimes they talk about it in depth later in the video but you aren't retaining my interest by spending 40 minutes giving a play by play of the game plot.
It's not even just essays, even REVIEWS are like this. They just. Describe the story of the thing. Only occasionally do they relay the actual gameplay mechanics, or offer any kind of thought or insight into the matter.
Started using the block from recommended feature just because of these videos. Guys, keep your favourite video reviewer/essayist that does good content and move on to a new interest.
Normies watch those things and they're the worst type of Normie, who can't even be bothered at seeing that saying "well this happened" isn't content. It's an AI explaining something to you.
I think the mistake is calling these videos "video essays" when they're really not. The LamWarp video for example doesn't make any claim to be a video essay or deep dive, it just has a title that sounds a bit like a video essay. In reality, they're essentially the same as old-style AVGN and Nostalgia Critic 'Reviews', where it's a summary of the content with commentary. It's not a style that's gone away, it's just become more democratized to smaller channels as the larger older ones die out or specialize.
a lot of these essays end up being 'nothing' videos, no interesting points of view, no analysis, no actual information you have to dig for, it's just pure pointless yappin' with nothing to say.
Pippa doesn’t know that a basic element of writing is giving the audience of context based on the assumption that they have none. That means that you talk about what happens in a game before talking about the game
Which is fine, but the impression given is that the video is all context and no critical investigation. The actual video probably has a decent balance (idk), but a growing number of channels have become algorithmic bait by strictly producing summations.
Recommending PatricianTV, Matthewmatosis and Tehsnakerer for people that want analysis and not plot synopsis though Matmatosis doesn't uppload anymore.
Of course they're not gonna have an opinion, that'd be hurting people. Can't have that if you want the almighty algorithm to see you as a safe space. Let's not even think of analysing or going through theories. On another note, there are genre that are much better to watch than to play and horror games are a prime example. So few of them seem to have interresting gameplay and I'd rather get the reactions from someone else than my own.
What's even stranger and more annoying are the videos that are just like this except for a TV series or movie. Like those are passive video entertainment! Do you really need to lose the pacing, music, and acting by watching an emotionless AI summarize it? Who watches these?
Most of these games are complete slop that I have to PAY for that I don't even care enough to play myself or pirate them. These videos just tell me what it is about and is a good time waster when I need to have something on the background. Her whole career is what spawned streamer bait games, she shouldn't be complaining and instead she should be out there looking for decent indie games to showcase.
Pippa haven't seen the worst kind of "essays" where they also go on a tangent sumarizing ANOTHER movie or game.
Can you point me where? That sounds so bad it's funny.

I like that because I need long videos to listen to while playing some games (minecraft, rimworld, terraria, sandbox shit essentially)
It's the new AI meta
A ai script the event and voices it..
Far to many people fall for it
"But Pippa pirating the game requires downloading and installing it"

tiktok rabbit forgetting about the tiktok generation
I don’t have time to play video games when I’m busy listening to a yapping pink rabbit

Remember, opinions are illegal on YT.

Slop content farms, slop content farms everywhere.
Basically 99% of all video essays.

I, thankfully, don't encounter these kinds of videos. I might've seen anime summary before though, and nuked that from my algorithm.
Don't you realize how dangerous having opinions on the internet is nowadays? 😜

I like the volume level similarities between the pink and purple chinchillas
Why is she so perfect ?
it's just internet movie reviewers of video games

Pippa is kind of the same type of content, she's a react streamer who watches videos silently
These summaries are for Elon so he can talk about games without playing them.
Pippa is too old, she doesnt understand the new generation.

Cough avalanche cough
I hate when that shit happens. Sometimes they bait you too with a title like “investigating the meaning of _”. So annoying 😒
Those are the WORST video "essays" it's all summaries. no analyzing of the material, just "here is what happened"

It's a bot
This same sort of slop has been there for movies, horror especially, since before tiktoks time
It a lazy way to make money for someone alse's work
