HOW TO GET CURLIER HAIR AT THE ROOT - TECHNIQUE MATTERS! | INCREASE CURLY HAIR DEFINITION + VOLUME

  • If you're wondering "why are the roots of my hair not curly?" or "why does my curly hair have flat roots?" this video is for YOU.
    In today's video I'll be sharing tips to increase curl definition and volume at the roots. My hair is wavy curly and doesn't naturally curl from the root, but certain techniques alongside my hair can cut give me more root lift and curl.
    I'm sharing a side by side of techniques that both limit and increase root volume and definition, as inspire by my curlfriend @sophiemariecurly 🥰
    Please bear in mind that:
    1. I don't normally style in a centre part as this can also limit my root lift
    2. There's nothing "wrong" with the limit volume side, it's personal preference, however I wouldn't necessarily recommend using that amount of product.

    First person Ive seen who has curls similar to mine, except I have super corkscrew curls. I dont add products usually, but I do brush it down and then only scrunch the roots, so Im definitely gonna try this next time!

    I'm so glad I found your channel! For many years, I didn't even know I had curly hair. (Can you believe that)?? I just thought I had *unmanageable hair. I spent hours blowing and straightening my hair only to end up with tons of frizzy hair. 😭
    During covid, I just left my hair be and noticed the natural pattern of my hair. Like you, I have soft curls but am guilty of hovering with my defusing, I don't separate my hair enough, also I like the trick to pick up more of the wave pattern by going in with a comb. Thanks so much! 🌻

      @salsadip7453 7 месяцев назад

      It gives a lot of variety! Either more beach wavy with separating the curls or Shirley temple ringlets
      I had the same struggles with my hair and so far she is the only person I’ve found with a similar hair type and pattern
      Might try some curl cream, tried two and they were so heavy! Idk
      Mousse gives me volume, but absolutely no hold and layering with gel doesn’t seem to work (I’m currently experimenting)

    Love your videos and this one so timely for me! Really demonstrated what I have been struggling with for a while now. My brain says add more curl cream and or gel and of course you I will get more curls right? I am sure we all initially make this mistake but I have noticed that the amount of what I actually need now that I am 15 months into doing my curls I need far less then I did 6 months ago. Part I think may be seasonal but mainly my hair has finally gotten the moisture it needed for so long even though I didn’t color or heat style my hair previously it was just very dry and the new curls/waves (formerly straight for 65 years) just really demanded more moisture. All this to say my hair was starting to look like the producty side even though I didn’t use all that much, but since limiting things to 1/2 teasp on the CC for my whole head (course, dense shoulder length hair) and a max of 2 teasp of gel and a touch more halfway dry I am getting much bouncier curls and waves. So Thank you for posting this just when I needed the reassurance I am on the right path at-last!

    Hey! Loved this video is was very helpful :) To achieve more volume, do you style your hair when damp? I noticed you did it when soaking on the non volume side x

    • @hanzcurls
      @hanzcurls  Год назад

      You definitely can style on damp hair for more volume! I prefer my results when styling on wet hair as I find they can go a bit stringy on damp hair, so for me styling wet and then removing some water with a curl towel works best! But definitely play around to see what works best for you!

    This was really helpful. My hair is thick and if I took more time separating more sections, I know the end result would be much better, but I would be exhausted at the end of it.🤣
    Lovely video thank you 💕

    • @hanzcurls
      @hanzcurls  Год назад +4

      Haha I feel ya! It took me years to actually try sectioning my hair, and when I did it made such a difference to how well my product is distributed. Definitely try if you have thick hair! There are simpler ways of sectioning. I most often do the flip section method - see my 2022 updated hair routine for the technique!

      I've been doing the same 😩 Not necessarily brush styling clump by clump but I have been using smaller sections. If I can still get curl clumps I'm willing to try bigger sections. Ill have to look up the flip section method. Anything to cut down time on wash days esp when I'm working 😏

    My hair is very similar to yours and I am starting the sectioning techniques but still struggle with the top parts, it's flatt and frizzy. My hair in the top is more wavy than curly, like you said, so I think I should try a better haircut. Do you recommend a good hairdresser for that in London? thank you!

    Isn't there a curl refresher for day 2 and day 3? I've been on line looking for one all day and i just come across videos of beautiful women who say they don't always have to refresh in the morning! I do, otherwise I look scary! Yes, I sleep on silk pillowcases.

    • @hanzcurls
      @hanzcurls  Год назад

      Have a watch of my recent 6 ways to refresh video! You can use the same products you used on wash day to refresh your hair! But if you want a specific ‘refresh’ product there’s lots out there, I love the Umberto Giannini curl jelly refresh as used in my quick curly hair refresh video.

    Very helpful! My hairdresser says the only way to get the roots of my wavy, bleached hair to curl is to do her protein treatment for multiple months. What do you think?
