All good…Now to old school. You are in a new area out hiking or whatever. Buy a physical map of the area. Truck stop gas stations usually have them. You lose use of your phone then you can still navigate if you get yourself lost. Also helps with alternate routes in an emergency while driving. Do not depend on the internet or electrical power as a given. Just this old ladies opinion 🤍🥰
@@DavidHurst91 you are so correct! I wasn’t actually directing this to X 🤦♀️. But it’s also not a bad idea to have a physical map of the town/city you live in and an Atlas. I’m a farm girl like to be prepared at heart kinda girl!
@@tammykaltreiderI was attempting to be funny. That is a great idea. Back in the day I used to keep Gazetteer maps of the areas I hunted or fished and used to study them so I'd have a good idea of the lay of the land. I like GPS but I miss those things.
It’s what got me into EDC in the first place. My car got jacked up in a fender bender. I had a rental for several weeks and realized all my stuff was in my car at the junk yard - phone charger, shades, flashlight, garage door opener. That’s when I enrolled in RUclips university and got into EDC. Now I have backups of all the junk in my car plus a get home bag. My 20-year-old daughter plays it off but she’s low key getting on the EDC bandwagon too!
Love those shots. I love being in the woods in the fall. I am glad you didn't run into a situation out there and find you didn't have a backup Ultem pocket art! Thanks for keeping it real and practical
Excellent video. I can relate. Many years ago I had the sole of my boot completely rip off at the furthest point of my hike. The solution required outside the box thinking. Had to use half of each shoe lace to tie the sole back in place and it worked. I hate to think what my foot would have looked like if the hike back got finished barefoot.
When I was hunting a lot I had my main backpack with all the especially useful carry stuff. I had an emergency survival kit that duplicated many of the items and never left the pouch on my hip after I left the car. It had everything I needed to at least survive for a few days.
You make a great point about checking your gear before you leave. I don't keep any edc gear in my ride, as I always have it on me. I check everything out before leaving the house. This way I don't feel the need to have backups of everything. Great scenery by the way!
What I do besides a plan B kit is that I write down what I do and don’t need so I fine tune the EDC - I always carry a heavy needle and a small role of military grade thread to repair broken packs ( never happened ) but a small sewing kit is invisible
Always making me think about my carry. Never though about a strao break, and realized I have no 550 cord in my backpack at the moment. Definitely agree about always prepapring you kit and checking it regularly. Batteries do eventually need replaced or charged. Medical supplies do expire. Objects become dislodged and "lost".
Nice reminder! I am amazed by the folks that are willing to go on a day hike without the 10 Essentials. The exact list is up for debate, pick one and don't hit the trail without it! Stuff happens.
I have a recurring event in my to do list for charging my powerbanks and flashlights🙂 Also good for checking the contents: you use some things (that are not reusable) so you have to stock up. And I also like to carry bandages with me, with an alcohol swab and also some tissues. If you slip and nick yourself, emergency bathroom break or get something nasty on you, you want to wipe it off. Last but not least: a ziplock bag (leave a little silica packet in there) for when it starts to rain and you don't want to ruin your phone etc. (Still looking for a great waterproof pouch). I like this "out on a hike' content, hope there will be more!
Thank you for all the time and effort you put into these videos .. With that said there are a few things that always get over looked, first off is a whistle, the sound travels a lot further then yelling alone, and second some knives are well into hundreds of dollars. Maybe a cheap secondary (flea market ) knife would be better for batoning than hammering on my expensive knife . Just a suggestion and again thanks for the videos
I think redundancy is important, like you mentioned. When I go out for a hike, I bring two flashlights; one compact and one thrower. In the case where I forget to charge the battery in one or something, I'll at least have the other. If a flashlight you have also functions as a battery bank, all the better! I recently picked up a Sofrin IF22A, and it's nice that it also functions as a waterproof battery bank just in case.
In addition to what you have mentioned, I carry an extra set of hiking shoes in my car. Also, a way to purify water. I once had to walk home with what I had in my pockets, but got very thirsty as I walked around a large lake on the way home. Even if I had found a discarded water bottle, needed iodine to purify the water. I have it now.
Pro tip: check your states laws for fixed blade. for example in Michigan if u put your fixed blade that’s over 3” ( blade length not overall) then it’s considered concealed and carries a 5 year behind bars felony
I always care an emergency medical kit (EMK) in addition EDC, get-home, etc. I've come across multiple car wrecks over the years where my EMK helped saved lives.
Been loving the content and wanting to start being more prepared for edc, as a tradesman we use some of these techniques like extra boots and clothes after a muddy day on the job as not to dirty the vehicle. Still trying to figure out what I want to start with for getting into edc, keep up the amazing content, been watching constantly sent finding your channel at the beginning of the month
spare cash comes up more often then people realize especially traveling, i really recommend having $50 in a variety of bills and even coins in your kit, you lose or forget your wallet, run out of gas and need to pay for a ride, gas, and a can, go somewhere thats old school and doesn't take card or has an outage at the register, buying a vending machine snack for your kids or friend in a pinch.
EDC emergency is to keep your first aid kit or boo-boo kit stocked. That one time you get a wicked cut and you bust out the EDC IFAK and you’re out of bandaids
My apologies if you've mentioned or answered this previously in one of your videos. What do you have for your truck in regards to what would be needed in the event you blow out a tire? Mine blew out last night and the jack that came with the truck kinda sucks and took much longer than it would have if I had something better.
Anybody.... thoughts on firearm (pistol and long gun) storage in vehicle (small SUV type) with 8yr old and sometimes dog. Like one of those drawers in a pickup bed or under F150 backseat etc but for a smaller SUV type wuth already fairly limited storage.
Dumb question..do you just plug in your battery bank every week or whatever to make sure its 100%? that's my issue. I have a bank but hardly ever use it. When i need it, it's dead.... you touched on this a bit having tire etc aired up.
At what point does you edc and your other edc become redundant? The point of edc gear is that is is gear you carry every day. All the other gear is supplementary or unnecessary and therefore not suited to be considered edc.

X is a trained Marine. He probably has a spare compass and could find his way out. The rest of us definitely need that map!

Nice 👍🏿 we should all keep a map and compass 🤙🏾
That's why I EDC a Swiss Army Knife. Not the best but has many little things to hopefully pry and poke with to get the job done.
I always think of these things as a Universal remote. It doesn't do any one thing the best but it does cover all the bases
Good ideas and nice change up with the scenery!
Thank you very much!

Or carry a pry bar to use vs. using your knife to pry something open.

It would be cool to see how you pack a 2 3 day getaway within the city vs outside the state

I love the calculus of figuring out the sweet spot of having critical spares and keeping the weight and bulk to the minimum
And power banks , are clutch

Love the content from a fellow vet. Glad you emphasize using the gear. Carrying is not enough.

Victorinox Alox Bantam is a great backup knife. It super compact and fits in my wallet.

Any time!
Chris, did you see that video of the Yinzer Referee making the rounds? Pat McAfee shared it too. Perfect Yinzer phonics and attitude.

Extra kit is a good idea 🤔

Does your back strap have a horizontal chest stablilizing strap?
It does, I am just not using it on this ruck
I always think about and preparing for WWIII 😢
