  • It's Friday, so it's time for this week's 'Tea Reads' episode! In this video, I'm joined by my Mum (Donna), and we share our regular Friday routine of a teatime chat about books over a cuppa and a sweet treat we've baked together. In today's episode, I'm sharing a family favourite recipe: Banana and Cherry Loaf Cake. Mum and I also chat about books we've been enjoying this week. Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

I am very happy for you, Miranda, that you are reducing your recording, video output schedule. I ADORE your content. And, it had crossed my mind that I imagine it is a LOT of work. Cheers to you for adjusting to a sane schedule that works for you! I will see you, and Donna, for whatever content you do post.

Your Tea Reads are always so so lovely! I loved hearing about your family stories and recipes. My mum doesn’t like baking and my grandma never wrote down her recipes so we don’t really have family recipes and it’s so lovely to see your traditions ❤️ As someone who loves baking it’s really heartwarming!

I cannot tell you both enough how I love watching these mother and daughter videos. I lost my mum when I was thirteen years-old , and I miss her everyday. It’s great to see you cherish your mum, Miranda.
Also, about family recipes, my mum died and all the recipes went with her. So keep yours in a locked box for future generations.

It was lovely to watch you both light up while sharing your family baking history. How special to have the hand-written recipe. That personal connection, that sense of self perceived in someone's unique slants and loops, is a treasure and one that is sadly disappearing in the age of e-mail and text messages. Thank you for sharing such a joyous half hour. We'd much rather have you cut back on your weekly schedule than burn out and disappear altogether! xx

I agree, it's extra special to have something handwritten. Thank you Pamela!

I'll look forward to seeing you on Tuesdays and Fridays! You make your videos look wonderfully effortless and spontaneous, it really feels like you've opened your house and garden and invited us in for tea. However, there is obviously a lot of work behind the scenes - coming up with the ideas, themes and recipes, preparing, filming, editing - all of this is much appreciated! I love any variation on a banana loaf, I have some dried cherries and might have a go with these and see how it turns out. Loved all the readings but especially Cheerful Weather....Thanks for another cheerful and cheering episode, Miranda and Donna 📚👩🏽‍🍳🌷💛

Thanks so much for your lovely words, Lindsey! You're right: the editing etc adds on a great deal of time. Two a week definitely more manageable! I hope the dry cherries work; I've never tried it with those xxx

😂😂Miranda I could listen to you read a 900 page book...I was never read to as a child except for teachers and librarians in elementary school but when I listen to You and Donna..I get that same cozy feeling from back then😊💕 and I love Banana Bread but I’ve never had it with cherries , It looks delicious and I’m going to make it, anything made in one bowl I feel confident enough to try..confession (embarrassingly) I had to look up sultanas 🤷🏾‍♀️ And then I was like oh!!! Thank you so much for another wonderful video 🥰...I’m watching this video EARLY Saturday Morning but it’s a great way to start a very busy weekend 🥰

Hello Miranda and Donna, another lovely recipe to add to the collection - we will have to have a Friday Tea Reads book published!! Thank you for letting us know about the new schedule and I do think it makes perfect sense and as a viewer I would not be happy thinking our enjoyment was at your cost to your wellbeing. Your channel is all about fun and happiness and long may that continue, Teresa ❤️📚👩🏻‍🍳🌸❤️

Happy Friday, Miranda and Donna! Your smiles cheered me so much. The banana cherry bread looked amazing and I think my hubby would love it! When I was growing up, I wasn't much of a sweet tooth, but my Italian grandmother would always make me a dessert called "Mystery Bars", which had a graham cracker crust and topped with a thick creamy layer filled with chocolate chips, chopped nuts, sweetened condensed milk and sweet, shredded coconut. I used to love them! It was almost like a cheesecake, but with coconut and chocolate bits. I love that Persephone book - I'll have to give it another read. Very interested in the Wordsworth book - I adore books describing domestic life. My favorite! Wishing you a wonderful weekend and many hugs! xoxo :D

Hello Miranda and Donna. I watched this video twice. I was absolutely cracking up, Miranda, with your reading of Cheerful Weather for a Wedding. Your banana cherry loaf looks delicious as do all of your baked goods. Old fashioned or not, I still love glace cherries. I can't think of a bad way to have a cherry. I wish you both a very relaxing and peaceful weekend, and will be looking forward to seeing you again on Tuesday. Take care.......Crystal.

Always love your Teareads videos. I am fortunate to have my Nana's recipe book, very tatty now but full of aspirational recipes from the 40's/50's, none of which she ever cooked, but it is also stuffed full of loose sheets of hand written recipes from her, or from her friends, or snipped out of a magazine, and those are the ones she actually made. There's nothing better than kicking off the weekend on a Friday evening than watching the day's episode of "Tea Reads." I have two family recipes that I have been inspired to try to locate: my grandmother's "Flapper's Pudding" recipe and a lemon icebox cake. I haven't thought of these desserts since before I was diagnosed with celiac disease, but if I do find them I will try to adapt them to a gluten free version. That red and white plant behind you in this video is breathtaking. Could you please tell me the name of it?

    • @btwilks
      @btwilks 3 года назад +1

Gail - unless I'm much mistaken, that plant is an Amaryllis Hippeastrum. They're often sold as a single large bulb at Christmas and can make a long-lasting gift, as they can be regrown for many years.

    • @MirandaMills

I made my usual banana bran muffins today...but that banana/cherry loaf is calling my name. I was raised on loaf cakes. One of my Mother's best was her Orange Cranberry loaf. She would make about a dozen in small tins, and I got the job of delivering them to all of our neighbors. It's a tradition I carry on. Your books and bakes are always so good that it puts me in a warm and loving mood. All the readings were wonderful. Have you ever done a tea spotlight? I would love some history on proper tea time, both of your favorite blends & such and maybe a tour of your tea pot and tea cups??

My special recipe is whipped shortbread topped with a candied cherry. It was a recipe that was made every Christmas and I have carried on the tradition. My Grandma grew up on the Canadian prairies (as did I) Saskatchewan to be precise, and yet her Mom was from Leeds so I grew up with a lovely English influence from a young age.

My goodness though… it’s stunning how much you look alike. No ☝️ would ever question if you’re Mum & Daughter. And what a cake recipe!! I love it. Hi Miranda and Donna, another lovely, cheerful video. I will definitely try this recipe out - it has basic ingredients that are easy to get and it's my birthday on 17 March - I will make it for myself and husband as a birthday treat. I'd like to send you a recipe of mine for an easy dessert "Norwegian custard cream". The original recipe was given to me many years ago by my friend, Christine, a fellow student. But the recipe got so tatty and milk-splashed that I had to type it out. Shall I email it to the contact address on your blog?
