Michael Mooch. I'm 29. I agree. Life DID have more meaning to it. A lot of people will try to gaslight you and make you think that you're looking through rose tinted glasses because you were young back then. But you can even ask people who were adults back then as well. A LOT of things have changed in society from even 2, 3 decades ago. Some through a slow creep, others rapidly. It was objectively better back then. In my opinion, the biggest factors were: the internet/smartphones, the financial crisis in 2008 and the 9/11 attacks.

I have a suspicion that we love watching these commercials not only because they were a part of our childhood, but also because they aired in a time when we weren’t as bombarded by personalized ads. These commercials were generic but also extraordinary at the same time. Companies had to fight to grab the attention of whoever was watching. In today’s ads companies hardly have to really try anymore. Ads can be targeted to their demographics and streamlined to create something cheap but that will still be as effective. Back in the day these ads often gave us something to talk about with the other kids at school. “Did you see the game boy pocket!?” And they either had or hadn’t. But it allowed us to feel connected with what was going on in the world without being inundated. We had ads at home, but then we would go about our lives and only encounter them every now and then. Ads are hardly as special if you always have them with you no matter where you go.
