God I feel like this show is so underrated I hope because Pasek and Paul are so hot right now they more people discover it. Also can we just talk about buzzcut Derek? So glad we have such HQ footage of this to enjoy!
Thanks I wasn't aware Ms. Mendez is on deck for Carrie in "Carousel." I certain Ms. McDonald got a Tony in that role once upon a time. Maybe Lindsay will earn one. Such a dream cast with Ms. Mueller & Mr. Henry. I love Reneeé Fleming in grand opera. She's wonderful in "Eugene Onegin" for example, but I don't love her voice in a popular musical theatre vein. I will remain open minded. She'd also be a Tony award contender. I'm rooting for Lindsay.
Ya know. For some reason I didn't LOVE her in "Wicked" I've liked her in other things, Seth Rudetsky interview is fabulous, the song "Accident Prone" or ll those "Fly Girl" backstage "Wicked" blogs and of course "Dog Fight" I just wasn't blown away by her Elphie. I saw the talent, dedication and technique, I heard her hit some crazy cool notes but I didn't get the "feels."
Pasek & Paul have a unique gift to write songs for characters who are *deeply uncomfortable.* That's a rare skill. It makes for compelling, rich, multi-layered harmonies -- and scenes. In other words, great theater. Moreover, this duet is a perfect example of when all the collaborations are top form: we’re seeing great writing, nuanced detail-perfect acting performances, phenomenal musicianship (those harmonies and vowels are so in-sync it’s insane), perfect direction. Orchestrations are divine, too. I find DOGFIGHT a little uneven. But for their VERY FIRST book musical, at such a young age, it was such a perfect herald of what Pasek and Paul would soon be accomplishing. Derek and Lindsay, though, just delivered beautifully here.
omg this helped so much my peer and i soph are performing this duet for our scene to song assessment. thank you so much thanks heaps thank you though no really

Katie Martin This isn’t the whole musical, there’s a big section where Eddy (the guy) tricks Rose into going with him to a party where you’re supposed to bring the ugliest date possible (that’s the ‘dogfight’).
Dogfight is a military term for close combat betweet military aircraft. This musical is based on the movie with the same title released way back in the 90s. It centered with military boys having their own term of "dogfight" wherein the guy who gets ugliest date wins. The story goes from there.

An awkward girl with her guitar
Keeping to herself
Friday nights alone
With the records on her shelf
A waitress pouring gingerale and coke
Someone you ask out as a joke
I've been that girl who fades away
Accepting what I've got
Stuck in what I am
And everything I'm not
I've only seen this tiny world I'm in
Where I can only be what I've been
See a world beautiful and strange
Spinning of somewhere
Saying meet me there
Look, look how fast it runs away
Singing follow close and reach for me
See that you've got so much more to be
Before it's over
Before it's over
I can't go write another song
I'm too afraid to play
Or dream how things could change
But only see what's in my way
I can't go back to what I was before
Now that I can see so much more
See a world beautiful and strange
On a one way track and it won't come back
Look, look how fast it runs away
Singing follow close and reach for me
See that you've got so much more to be
Before it's over
I never even knew a world was waiting
Somehow something awful made that world appear
Maybe this sounds crazy but I'm happy that it happened
Happy that I came
Happy that I'm here
I can see a world beautiful and strange
Can you see it too?
It's so close, don't let it get away
There's so much to do
Before it's over
Is there a full version shot from this angle? I need it.

@@welit3807 CAn you show me where? i looked but i could only find this and derek klena's song "Come Back"
It exists but it’s unlisted so you have to find a specific playlist. The playlist has 50+ videos of bootlegs so I hope this helps
@@meliss_is_jealous what is the playlist called?

There definitely must be a full video of the show from this angle, just tell me where🙏
Does anyone have the full show?
4:59 lol is she pretending to be pregnant there? 🤣 Forgive me, I don't know much about this musical other than the synopsis.
Haha I always thought she meant the waiter, but I’ve actually never noticed her doing that with her hands so maybe...
Yeah she's trying to get sympathy from the restaurant host by pretending she got knocked up & was getting married with little money.
Do you happen to have a copy of the whole thing?
What was the dogfight exactly

Jason Daniel THANK YOU
Yep, what everyone else says. The dogfight was an ugly girl competition where the girl didn’t know what it was 🤧
