I’m Indian and Italian and we never really ate ‘American food’ growing up. Went to my friends house and they served me cheese whiz and broccoli. I realized I hate cheese whiz so I asked for plain broccoli. Very embarrassing
@Sally Smith7 sorry........ what??? oh my gosh that sounds like a “this is all i have in my fridge and i’m starving, my standards are hella low rn” snack
Years ago I worked for a Korean salon once and the boss/owner brought kimchi often. The first time I ate it, my boss and Korean coworkers were starting at me so asked why. The boss was like “you can use chop sticks?” “Yes,” and then she was like “that’s not too spicy for you?” I said “nope, this is delicious...can you bring more?” Lol I think my co workers accepted me after that and even taught me how to speak some Korean. Lol
I am a born and raised American used to eat kimchi and rice when money was tight. My uncle actually served mission in S. Korea so he actually told me about kimchi. I like it alot.
HAHAHA As a person who loves spicy food, I always say that "It's not spicy" because I genuinely believe it isn't. Then after they tried it, they start choking. That's when I feel guilty
My dad and I are like this lmao. Puerto Ricans aren't known for HEAT in our food, we kinda get lumped in with Mexico who enjoys spice. Papi and I kind rolled with it and started building a spice tolerance, but mami NEVER has. She once thought I gave her spicy doritos when they were the blue bag, cool ranch kind. ZERO spice tolerance. She'll ask papi and me if something is spicy and we will genuinely say no bc it's not, but to her it is. Now when she asks, we sometimes stare at each other for a few seconds like we're telepathically trying to discuss whether she would consider it spicy or not before we let her try something
I brought some Carolina reaper nerd type candies to work once and I didn't think they were covered in enough dust to make it a big deal so I was giving them out to my coworkers just to let them try it. Then I gave some to one particular coworker who started dying immediately. Started coughing and tearing up guzzling water and eventually sugar packets. We had a good laugh but I did feel a bit guilty since I didn't expect it to hit him that bad. My manager gave me shit for those candies though cause he also didn't think they were spicy so one night we went and tried the death nut challenge and oh God we were puking in the sewers by the end of it. He was being real cocky too up until we got to the last level and I turn around to see him crying. We were eating ice cream chugging milk and when I went inside my house to get the pepto bismul I found him on his knees outside his car hands shaking... good times
I have so many Asian friends that have had me over for dinner and I’ve fell in love with a lot of food and I introduced them into some Italian foods since I’m Italian
Yes! I love spicy food so much!! I used to drink hot sauce out of the bottle when I was 8-10 y/o, not a lot, but idk if that's weird- Sadly my mom is the stereotype no-spice-tolerence white, and we rarely make spicy food unless she's on a weekend trip, work trip, or we have something else for her.
I actually had a Korean friend who didn't like her family's food most of the time. So when her parents would pack her lunch she would give it to me and I would give her the American food in my lunch.
I’ll never forget the Korean exchange student who gave me my first seaweed and kimchi when I was in the second grade 😂 I only had a pack of Oreos for her to try. And I’m pretty sure they have Oreos in Korea but she was polite enough to be impressed 😂
Kimchi is a bit sour in my opinion and spicy too, but it’s still good, my family loves kimchi so that’s why i tried it before, well actually o wanted to taste it but now i’m in love :D
☝️😃You should try it, as soon as possible! It's 😋👌so delicious! Tips: 😍First time, add some kimchi on your ramen noodles- You probably haven't eaten better noodles EVER! 🤗After that try- taste Kimchi without anything else!
The fact I'm not Korean but I've tried Kimchi before makes this even more accurate. Never really met a Korean mum, but been to a restaurant where they make Korean food. So I tried Kimchi and my mouth literally was on fire, but still it's good. I don't eat spicy, but I totally need like 20 jugs of milk.
Tbh in most cases kimchi looks spicier than it actually is. The red pepper pieces makes it look like it should be really spicy but no, it's more sour/salty than spicy. I'm saying this as someone who can't even eat raw garlic or tolerate high levels of spice, most kimchi WON'T make your mouth burn or even tingle with heat
It really depends on the place and who makes it! But if anything is ever tooooo spicy for you, a great pairing is banana milk. Trust me!!! It sounds so weird maybe but the banana itself and the milk (tho i get banana coconut or banana almond because of my gerd) help the stomach SOOOO much and helps with the spice in your mouth.
I am Asian (not Korean), and I don’t like kimchi because it’s too spicy for me. BUT! I went to Korean restaurant one time and I tried their sweet kimchi! Not sweet like sugar of course, but its not spicy and bite your tongue. I love it! Wish I can make it at home though.
The thing with Kimchi, when you have very low spice tolerance, I'd suggest a Kimchi Fried Rice topped with Kewpie Japanese Mayo. It's not only not that spicy it's also easy to make AND tasty. Edit: You can even add sliced seaweed (cut the sheets to bite sized pieces) and chopped up bacon! And if fried rice isn't your type, try making kimchi soup!
Actually kimchi’s spiciness will decrease when you use it to cook with any thing. My like to use it to cook fried rice, cook some soup and put some rice in and fried the kimchi with Korean rice cake. Those taste sooo good👍🏻
The owners of the salon I work in are first generation immigrants, and when she makes kimchi I'm always so excited. She's so good at it, even the fresh kimchi is WONDERFUL.

There were these pickled jalapeños I think and her entire family watched me eat it in awe and I remember my latina friend not being able to eat it and her tias constantly asking if it was spicy 😂 it was hilarious because I had no reaction and it was great😭 Trying ethnic food is such an experience
Indeed spicy. I like to add them to my mini tacos
I eat em w almost everything but pickled jalapeños w chamoy & takis>>>>>>

@@constanzaosorio6860 😆😆
We were eating ice cream chugging milk and when I went inside my house to get the pepto bismul I found him on his knees outside his car hands shaking... good times
I didn’t know Kimchi was considered spicy lol- For me, being a Latina, “spicy” and “Kimchi” go in a different categories 😂

I actually had a Korean friend who didn't like her family's food most of the time. So when her parents would pack her lunch she would give it to me and I would give her the American food in my lunch.
Awwww thats awesome!
That is gold
not to be dramatic but this is the best thing ive ever read
Omg this reminds me of how Erold stories used to bring food to Canadian school
I’ll never forget the Korean exchange student who gave me my first seaweed and kimchi when I was in the second grade 😂 I only had a pack of Oreos for her to try. And I’m pretty sure they have Oreos in Korea but she was polite enough to be impressed 😂
I’ve never had kimchi but I want to it seems good and I like Korean spicy because I know it is different from other spicy foods that aren’t korean
Kimchi is a bit sour in my opinion and spicy too, but it’s still good, my family loves kimchi so that’s why i tried it before, well actually o wanted to taste it but now i’m in love :D
imo its more sour than spicy
Its basically spicy cabbage it taste better than how I and others usually explain it
☝️😃You should try it, as soon as possible! It's 😋👌so delicious!
Tips:
😍First time, add some kimchi on your ramen noodles- You probably haven't eaten better noodles EVER!
🤗After that try- taste Kimchi without anything else!
Try it paired with ramen, it’s very good 👍
"Jijejj" got me cracked
I lovvvvve the mom part ammaa 😊😊😊😊
The fact I'm not Korean but I've tried Kimchi before makes this even more accurate. Never really met a Korean mum, but been to a restaurant where they make Korean food. So I tried Kimchi and my mouth literally was on fire, but still it's good. I don't eat spicy, but I totally need like 20 jugs of milk.
Some kimchi aint that spicy
Then I ain’t eating kimchi no sir 😌💀
My mom: it’s not spicy
The food: *2x spicy ramen*-
Mama’s face when she’s trying it 😂😂🥹
I'd be tearing that kimchi UP LOL!
Ah yes, the food burn institution
FBI, What are YOU doing here??
Thanks for the info, mate

Actually kimchi’s spiciness will decrease when you use it to cook with any thing. My like to use it to cook fried rice, cook some soup and put some rice in and fried the kimchi with Korean rice cake. Those taste sooo good👍🏻
