Hey, Mark and Tyler, unrelated to Eminem but I just wanted to say thanks for all the fun years of entertainment and learning with this podcast. I’m always excited when I see a new episode. I also get excited when you do an episode about a band that I like and recommend other bands to listen to. I remember I asked about a band in the comments of an old episode and Tyler responded directly to me and helped finding out more. That band was Os Mutantes and now that’s one of my favorite bands. I also got into Dub because of you guys too. So I just want to say thanks for all the laughs and cool history lessons here and there, I look forward to more
Normal person here. Been listening for years and just posting for the first time to validate your point. Thanks for doing this show! Have a great day fellas.
To screw with my old band, I would play the riff from “Lose Yourself” on guitar. They hated it, but we would have a good laugh. Having grown up in that Manson era, I can 100% back the Eminem story on that. That’s exactly what I thought at the time and that’s probably why I never caught onto his hype. Also, I’ve just now discovered MF Doom in the last few months and he’s got so much better flow over the odd beats. Great episodes!
I always try and look for videos breaking down why em is overrated or isn't the goat. This is by far, the most well thought out and evidence backed critique I've ever heard. Also, you guys know hip hop so well that it makes this podcast 10x more substantive.
Facts. I love how they said that an Hip Hop fan and an Eminem is not the same thing because that is so true. Eminem opened the flood gate for all these people who will never f with rap if it wasn’t for Eminem. He literally got the worst fan base of all time.
Big fan of this podcast. It is not that uncommon for artists to write their lyrics, before creating music that would match-up well with those lyrics. I think Eminem is more interested in telling stories, than making up something that is convenient to the beat that is presented in the track. You make a good point that he is a sucky rapper in the traditional sense of that genre. I do think that he is a great "storyteller", which is a nice trait to have in making any form of media production.
I don't agree with all your takes but you're spot on about his beats and flow being absolute anathema to the clubs. I remember noticing that the only Eminem song you'd ever hear was 'Without Me', and maybe 'Just Lose It'

For real Marilyn Manson is the only thing in my life that I really seen freak people out. Like u see some kid dressed up like a punk now days u Don't even look twice. Not a Manson fan but I give him credit he freaked ppl out
I always wondered why on the song “Lucky You” with Joyner Lucas that the beat would immediately change the second Lucas dropped out and Eminem stepped in, and thanks to this podcast, I now know why. He couldn’t rap on the actual beat of the song.
Good episode but only thing you guys missed out on was the fact Eminem produces a lot of his own stuff and Eminem has produced for Busta, Jay Z and Nas. Love the podcast
One more episode? NAH BRO YA'LL NEED AT LEAST TWO MORE One for Encore, Relapse & Recovery, MMLP2 and One for the rest of the shitty music he's released since that
My only problem with Stan is what other rapper could make a song about killing their pregnant girlfriend and get tv and radio play? People are like but he told the guy not to do that. He wrote the song, of course he shows up at the end like the good guy.
"Cleanin out my closet" was an in joke with my best friend since it was so damn lame and whiny. Used to greet each other with "Wheres my snare" with the biggest lisp possible and laugh about it lol. B Rabbit was also an in joke with some dudes I played soccer with back in the day. Nobody took him seriously and nobody I knew bought his shit or played it at a party either. About as useful as putting on Radiohead for good vibes. 😂
"Killshot" was one of the weakest disks tracks ever dropped. He criticized MGK for making fun of his age in "Rap Devil," when 20 years prior was doing the EXACT SAME THING to Benzino in "The Sauce" and "Nail in the Coffin."
Yes bro this is so good!! Idk how this ended up on my algorithm but this deep dive on em is exactly what I needed 😂 nobody seems to really pinpoint the reasons whyyyy he’s overrated. Also I started on part 3 so I’m a fucking idiot and also I’m gay
Charli XCX? Her lazy TikTok bait album's getting way too much hype. She acts like she's the Kanye of Britney Spears when she's more like the Matty Healy of Gwen Stefani.
Not particularly worthy of an episode, pre-2020 Charli is alright. I do agree with the notion that it's overhyped, but it's not particularly unique in the fact that the new album has been so memified.

Marshal did have seemingly very irrational graphic killing, violence and rape lyrics though. Practically nobody around his level of musical/musical video fame didn't do this content so the topic does automatically tend to get hyper-focused on him and his. Your point is good and still stands though, he definitely changed this content (first 3 albums) after it anyway, Encore, Relapse, Recovery + etc. Also worthy mentioning that I believe he popularised, maybe even normalized dissing through music at a high fame level, it was only really done quite rarely at low-medium fame levels of rap/hip hop such as rap battles and beefs, he did it quite a bit at a pretty high level of fame. Eminem does have an impressive big varied discography, a lot of it is 'mid', some varied low parts, I do think 'Lose Yourself' is one of his best, yes Nas etc wouldn't suit it - because Nas didn't have rap battles and an established skin color not significantly included of hip hop dynamic.
