    As a die hard Bruin fan I gotta say that I've never had anything but the up most respect for these Montreal Canadien legends. These guys over the years were true Bruin killers in a lot of games we played against them, or any NHL team for that matter. I used to cringe as a kid knowing we had to play against these guys because they were so steeped in talent. I tip my hat and again want to say thanks to them for all the great games they played over the years and for entertaining fans everywhere.

    I was there that night (December 4, 2009, for the 100th anniversary of the Montreal Canadiens). On the ticket, the game was scheduled for 8PM, but it was also written Celebrations at 6h30PM… but we didn’t know what to expect as there had been no advertisement beforehand. This video does not totally capture the power of the sound, because the roof almost lifted when the crowd realized the Legends were there… I still get goosebumps. A really great evening for great players. Montreal IS Hockeytown. ;-)

    Seriously cool, and all those hockey names take me back... man. So awesome of Kenny Dryden to rock the old-school goalie pads! And I'm not surprised it took two sirens to get Patrick Roy off the ice, I bet he thinks he could still do a better job than some of these younger goalies.

    As a die hard Habs fan while growing up as a young goaltender, Patrick Roy was my idol and his trade was one of the worst days of my childhood...I think other fans and goalies can relate. When I watched this celebration live, I will admit I got quite emotional seeing Roy wearing the 33 to skate on the ice for one last time. Will never forget this.

    • @rantwithrob
      @rantwithrob 10 лет назад +4

      Hell yeah I agree. Roy is my fav player of alltime and when Mario Trembley forced Roy to stay in net for those 9 goals vs Detroit in 1995, and Roy's career in Montreal being ended, I was pissed off to say the least. Seeing him come out like this, and first to boot, was amazing....got chocked up myself. As a side note...it would have been great to see Dryden in net...standing there with the goalie stick in his classic pose.

    I didn't even know this clip existed. Big thrill to see my hero Dryden with pads on, even if he did look 50 lbs too heavy. I remember how I cried (I was 11) when he retired. To this day , I've still had sleep dreams of Dryden playing until the mid 80's.......then waking up and laughing about it. He still had 4 years left. He was one of a kind !

    Flyers fan since their first year, but as a kid in the driveway, I wore a Habs sweater with 14 on the back! Rejean! If only Philly had the tradition that runs so deep, the echos of all those who have worn the crest, the greatest hockey organization ever! I got chills seeing these greats skating once more; so many names and faces from my younger days,so many great hockey memories! I’ve never even been to Montreal, but there’s always been, and always will be part of my heart that pumps blood that’s Bleu, Blanc et Rouge!

    Unreal. Brings back some great memories. I was at a Montreal summer camp in '74 or 75 (can't recall the year) but it was my first time away from home on my own for 2 glorious weeks. I played in net and on the 1st day, my fav player, Yvan Cournoyer was teaching some of the other guys how to shoot low and hard and I was in goal for the session. The first 2 or 3 shots I didn't even see :) I did manage to save a couple after that but the whole episode was a blur of nerves and high emotions.
    Wonderful seeing him and the rest looking well.

    This was held on December 4th, 2009, for Habs 100th anniversary. Players were originally not supposed to shoot on the goalies. You will noticed that Ken Dryden was not wearing his goalie mask as he cannot see without his glasses and could not wear them with his mask. Players kept their shots low on him. At the other end, players were shooting more freely on Patrick Roy has he appeared fully dressed. Patrick Roy later admitted to keep his pads a bit more close together. Not expecting shots on him, he was not wearing a jock!

    Felt like Field of Dreams for hockey. It was sad when I heard the siren; it was like mom had called them all in for dinner. Watching them slip into the dark walk under the stands at the end of the skate was like watching them fade into the corn field. They returned to the glory of childhood memories and into every arena where hockey is played.

    This would have been so cool if the Habs did this one night against a team... imagine the looks on the other team if these guys came out for the warm up and 'todays' team opted out of the warm up skate!!! Obviously they would beat the old-timers, but I am sure many would be in awe. That would be hilarious. I wonder if there is an NHL rule against that?
