Today's video is all about how to avoid wasting money when buying luxury goods! **Items Mentioned** 1. Scotchgard (US): amzn.to/3P3U8CY (I couldn't find the exact equivalent so if looking specifically for bag protection, I'd recommend the Collonil Pro linked below) Scotchgard (UK): amzn.to/3uoirUh 2. One most important thing I want to add: STOP LIVING PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK WHILE CHASING AFTER LUXURIES! I see young ladies barely catching up on their bills because they’d rather get a new wallet or bag instead of investing in themselves. Pay those bills first. Pay those student loans first. Fill up your bank THEN treat yourself once in a while. Those bags can wait. Get the habit of saving up for that dream bag instead of dropping those $$ on wallets or SLGs. Remember, no luxury bags are worth of drowning yourself in debt.
Waiting when I love a bag has really paid off for me. I watched preloved sites consistently for a bag on my wish list and got it for a great price. Basically looks new - glad I waited
Considering these, I would be interested in finding out which bags you would keep if you could only keep ONE bag from each designer you have 😊 Shoes too!
Thank you for this video Amie, love how practical you are even when it’s about luxury purchases! Very refreshing to hear all the tips and considerations that should impact each buying decision. Will keep these in mind for next time!
it's also important to know how to look after and maintenance for bags and all goods. how to get them repaired, cleaned etc even if it's not a high end bag. so many people treat fashion as a throwaway
Totally agree with you! Thinking of the future and how you will use your bags day to day instead of expecting youll use it everyday when in reality you might not. Great tips!
Definitely agree with your points, especially waiting. If you're thinking about it today, see if you still are in a month, three months, when you get that bonus. The ones you truly love and suit your fashion and life styles best will be the bags still on your mind by that point and should be the ones you prioritize shopping for. It also gives you a chance to learn about other websites and sellers you might not have considered or heard about if you plan to go preloved. That was the case for me when seeking a Chanel classic flap. I managed to get a vintage one with very minor scuffing for under $6k, and I am so satisfied with that purchase, because I knew I had earned and thought through the pleasure and purpose of the purchase.
Thank you Amie - those are wonderful tips and definitely gave me something to think about - especially the part about not paying more than retail on reseller sites. Sometimes it’s hard because you want an item so badly that you did miss out on - but like you said, there will always be something else down the road. Thank you for sharing!!
A lot of really good tips! My favorite tip that u shared is to invest in items to help preserve ur bags, like scotch guard and bag liners. Thanks for sharing 💜🥰💐
I recently discovered your channel and loving every bit of it.. i really like how sensibly you shop luxury and even make us aware of what is not worth. Its really informational as people like me who work hard and earn and save monthly to get their first luxury item.
Nice tips Amie! I agree with a lot of it, but multi-functional bags never work for me. For me multi-functional bags are never the perfect bag and that is what I want.
Great video!! Another tip on thinking about resale value (some bags, if I KNOW they're not ones I'll ever 'grow out of', I don't mind about resale, but for others, it's definitely a factor)... I've been thinking about a Dior Book Tote (they're expensive, even in luxe terms, for what they are), and I NEARLY pressed the 'go' button when I realised they have pretty good resale value. BUT that's their resale value right now, while they're super popular, is it really going to be that high when I get bored of it in 2, 3, 5, 10 years' time? Probably not... I recently sold a Fendi Baguette from 2008ish. I paid about £600-700 for it originally. When I first tried to sell it, I was offered £100 so decided to keep it. THEN the new Baguette was released... and all of a sudden, I was offered £500 for it. Now I'm just waiting for Chloe to re-release the Paddington, so I can sell my original one for a reasonable price hahaha!
I agree with you, and it’s so true about the resellers. I made that mistake once and will never do it again. There’s always an other bag somewhere, always. Now if it’s not coming from the boutique, too bad. I actually was looking for a Hermes bag, I was so into that bag and I finally got it , exactly the one I wanted and from the boutique. Best feeling!
Amie, great tips in buying a luxury bag or thinking about buying one. So true that if you miss out on a bag there will be one right around the corner you love just as much. 😊❤️
I do disagree with the investment bags that can be passed on for generations, as trends come back around: if my mom had bought a Fendi baguette or the Prada nylon bag in the nineties, I would have worn it during the last years... so, if you love a trend, and have money, get it and keep it...
Definitely waiting to see what happens to your love for the bag when the hype dies down helps save money. I'm considering the fendi spy bag and I can get it for a steal now. over 10 years later, I love it even more cos it's not everywhere. Also scored the gucci blooms mini boston bag for a good price recently 👌
I definitely buy what I think will age well (fashion wise). I have a Gucci Marmont, LV Neverfull and Mulberry Bayswater. I love the Dior saddle bag, but don’t think it will age well, so that’s put me off! I’ve also spent money on aftercare, like the handbag liners, leather polish, and a strap protector for the Neverfull.
Great, great video Amy. Such good advice. Could relate to every one if your tips particularly buying a bag to suit your lifestyle. I bought my Neverfull a year ago and then I retired. As I don't use my car so much now and walk alot I find the Neverfull too big so have stopped using it after 5 outings 😕 Just bought the Speedy B 25 and am using it every day.😁 Just love it. Will probably sell my Neverfull now. Hope you are keeping well. Baby due any day now so sending love. X
Congratulations to both of you on your great news! Thank you for mentioning Handbag Angels handbag liners in your video. As always, looking forward to your next one X
Thanks Amie! Love these kind of videos, really helpful to always be cautious when it comes to luxury shopping especially handbags as you can get really hooked into it. Please do more videoes like this. Thanks so much 🥰
I always think the mulberry Bayswater is a forever bag that is very versatile. But it never holds its value. You still see people carry that around. But the resell value is very very low.
Would love to hear about your reccomendations on the best investment pieces in terms of quality and price. Personally i think mulberry is very hard to beat on this but Then i Dont own Chanel or YSL or the high end pieces, although i would love to i just wonder if the price is justified. The polene bags are amazing in terms of quality and price. Would love to here your thoughts. I would love to own a louis vuitton or ysl, but £2000 just seems mindblowing on a bag.
Hi Amie, could you do a video on all of the bags that you grew to love even more once you had a chance to use them? I love it when this happens to me with a bag I purchase, so I would love to hear your experiences as well. :)
Thank you for this video. You said many things that i needed to here and i’m hoping it’s sinks in😊. I have made some expensive choices that I now feel are mistakes. Going toward I will think long and hard about everything you said before I PURCHASE😀!
I am looking into getting my very first bag… I’m going with the YSL Lou Lou Small. Do you have a recommendation on the best shaper/insert for the Lou Lou? Do you protect the hardware at all?
This is smth I'm not getting! Buying a designer bags that cost thousands you still need to buy a liner to protect its shape and even give it more functionality as e.g. compartments. Designer brands became so lazy in producing thought through pieces, even cannot provide you with an adjustable strap or considered compartments.
I'd love to know what crossbody bags you'd recommend as a first bag purchase? I'm looking for something that will match with everything and really the only style of bag I like is a crossbody. 😊
I only really spray my bags that I think need it. I've sprayed my white Chanel now but no others and I'm not really concerned about my 19 so not planning to atm. I would always say though that you should test patch on the base or somewhere inconspicuous first - every leather and bag is different so always best to ease into it haha :)
Hi I have a question I have lots of bags from lv but I want to sell them and only have 5 or 6 classics bags from Fendi, Saint Laurent and Celine which one should I get
Absolutely agree with you Amie. I had my eye on Chanel classic. Am always thinking on black Caviar small is the safest color but i already had a Chanel 19 in Black. Now i was told by my SA she can keep a Beige small one for me in Caviar with Gold hardware. Oh that is my dream color. I really want it but after hearing from you, do you think that the color is classic? Also worried about color transfer but love beige since that is also a neutral color for my wardrobe and the color don't come by easily. Any thoughts? Thanks. Yes, last time i am tempted to get from Personal Shopper the Chanel Classic small but now since my SA can get me one, i am so happy that i waited for it. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely Amie! I hope you have advice on how to remedy this particular situation: Chanel calf leather coco top handle bag corners when they’ve been rubbed a bit raw, the colour has come off! It’s a cross body so it bangs on my thigh and I didn’t realise took some of the top layer of leather off too. Thanks so much for such informative content esp the products for leather care.
Totally agree with the reseller route. I am being suck into vintage bag for chanel and fendi. I wonder if you will buy vintage bag? I can see you glowing Amie. Any tips? Ist because of the pregnancy 😊
Can you mention how you feel about luxury backpacks? I see yiu have totes/ purses. Do u like chanel or LV backpacks ? Especially now that you’re going to be a mom carrying baby stuff? I agree with most points. Will never go to a reseller. Although, I don’t agree about chanel. Yes the classics are the best purchases for holding value, but I do think I’d one buys carefully, the style can still last. You may not see them often, but that can be a good thing. There’s many chanel bags that are very classic flap reminiscent. Especially current bags like coco handle.
I had a LV backpack but I didn't end up using it much so I sold it! I can't say if things will change once baby arrives but I don't think I'm a 'natural' backpack girl - I just love my totes too much haha :)
Thanks so much for the tips! Question: is collonil safe for the lambskin on the ysl puffers? Just got mine and definitely want to protect it, but not sure how to care for it well.
Oo I’ve not actually tried it on the puffers! If I’m doubt though, I also do a test patch on the base - let it dry for 24 hours and then compare. I’ve never had any issues so far :)
Congrats on your pregnancy news, Amie! Great tips, I do try to consider resale value now. Unfortunately, it appears LV empreinte leather pieces tend to have lower resale value than certain canvas pieces; but I still love my OntheGo MM in empreinte 😍

Completely agree. I bought my first luxury bag last year to celebrate paying off my student loans and it felt so good! Now onto saving for a house..😅
All of the above are words of wisdom! Take heed!
Agree with you 100%
My classic collection recommendation to cover all uses is: LV Neverful, Lady Dior (small), Chanel WOC, Mulberry Lily.
Waiting when I love a bag has really paid off for me. I watched preloved sites consistently for a bag on my wish list and got it for a great price. Basically looks new - glad I waited

Where do you get your bag inserts/liners? Are they washable?
I’ve bought some off Amazon
The Deauvillle tote one is Samorga and the 19 is from Handbag Liners. I've never tried washing mine but I'm sure you could!
Thank you for the tips and sharing your experience!
Would you spray your Chanel bags like Chanel 19 and classic bag with Carbon pro ? I’m afraid to do it, worried will ruin the bags.
Same. I’ve heard other RUclipsrs do it. But I haven’t seen a video of them doing it.
I only really spray my bags that I think need it. I've sprayed my white Chanel now but no others and I'm not really concerned about my 19 so not planning to atm. Hi I have a question
I have lots of bags from lv but I want to sell them and only have 5 or 6 classics bags from Fendi, Saint Laurent and Celine which one should I get
I think depends where you live too! Where I live, we don't really seee THAT many designers bags. So trends don't really affect me that much
Thank you for sharing your tips and maintenance accessories. Super helpful
