    Rewatching these videos to get me though the winter and I lol’d when Laura said “this is the year of chaos”. She had no idea what 2020 had in store for her!

    Hi Laura, I have to vote for the animal Pasteur. As much as babies need a playground, they also learn so much about kindness, compassion, responsibility and sacrifice from having animals to care for. It is immeasurable how much joy and laughter they bring to us each day. They fill your soul with unending grace. And ... if I may be so bold. .. I think it would be so sweet to name the pasteur in memory of Dexter. "Dexter's Ranch" ... I miss him sooo much. I can't stop looking for him. Big huugggsss to you and Aaron ♡♡♡

    The drone scene is PERFECT, I can really see the entire place and it is LOVELY!! I miss seeing Dexter too! I think YOUR idea of animals is a very good idea! ITs' always good to have animals when you have children, it teaches them so much. But maybe the chickens could wait until the kids are old enough to help. Thank you !!

  • @Robin-is2jm
    @Robin-is2jm 6 лет назад +61

    With kids in your future, you may want to consider leaving that back garden for soccer, football, etc. Even though you don't use it much now it's a great area for kids to play their sports or have space to run. I'm sure whatever you both decide it will be fantastic! God bless all of ya'll!!

  • @saschacat

    Absolutely lovely. I am a mad gardener and with both my children I put them in their pram covered by muslin and took them in the garden with me whilst I gardened. Now my boys are all grown up and one loves to grow stuff and is teaching his kids and the other is a mad gardener like his mother.

    I have to give kudos to Aaron for the lush lawns you guys have. It's about time he gets complimented on his contribution to your lovely yard. Laura, you always do an amazing job with the flowers but I do appreciate a thick lush lawn.

    If farm animals escape they eat all the plants! My parents can't plant anything with out the goats or the neighbors pigs eating them. I think it's so beautiful the way the garden looks so green and fresh! Love it as is.

    Suggestion for your backyard... as you are about to have a baby that will need some place to play. How about a play yard? Swing set, etc? Eventually you'll need a place to kick or throw a ball around.

      I third. Something fun and whimsical that he can touch and play with. If you get another kitty you can show case animal safe plants. Build a tree house and have vines running up it.

    A couple comments. One, we miss Dexter a ton! The mention you had of him honestly brought tears to my eyes. And two! The property is absolutely beautiful. The drone footage at the end should be your outro to all your videos! And do a new outro each month so we can watch the leaves change colors from winter into spring, spring into summer, summer into fall, fall into winter. One a month would be great!

    idea: Put your urns in the your vegetable garden and either make your pasture or a playground for your new little one......they need to play football somewhere! And you don't need another destination garden. You have several already.

  • @melissasaenz4261
    @melissasaenz4261 6 лет назад

    So much I'm trying to remember... The cabbages planted like that look like HUGE Sempervivums! 😊 I love the idea of farm animals. And the trial area. Could they be combined somehow? Children learn so much by helping care for animals. You learn by doing... (former 4-Her....) Your formal area with the purple say and sprinter boxwood is beautiful and inspirational. I never bothered to learn much about evergreens until watching your videos over the past year. This morning I attended a one hour seminar at my favorite local nursery on DIY Landscaping...with my 2yo son in tow... Don't let anyone try to limit you. You know what you're capable of. I wouldn't have stepped outside my gardening comfort zone if not for your videos.

    I think the idea of animals sounds like a good thing. That whole area is large enough to be devoted to the baby. Your child could have his own area for gardening, animals and play. Make it his own mini farm and garden. I had foster children that I did that with and I didn't have half the place you do. It keeps them physically and mentally active.

  • @GrannyCompton
    @GrannyCompton 6 лет назад

    The unsure/unused space - you will want a pool for the kids and as they get older it will be a place for them to be save with their friends. If you put a horse back there you'll have to then take out all the plantings and have nothing but soil and build an enclosure for the horse AND you'll have to walk back there to feed and engage the horse each and every day.

  • @jessicablackwell3572
    @jessicablackwell3572 6 лет назад

    I agree with some of the other comments. As an aunt of two active boys, you need a play space with some shade trees back there in the Back 40 with some seating where you guys can hang out, and he can run and play without the risk of damaging anything that's too precious. Put in a swing set and a sand box and that can be "baby space" on one side with the other side still able to be a test garden!

    Long-time fan, first time commenter- you're such an inspiration! Thank you so much for your videos and ideas! My husband and I just moved to Oregon and purchased our first home, and I have FINALLY been able to start putting together the kind of garden I have wanted since I first started watching these videos. I was so sad to hear about Dexter- that's such a hard thing to go through. If it's any consolation at all, we have you to thank in a way for our own new puppy. We wanted a rescue dog and I was scanning ads for collie mixes, and saw a scrawny looking pup in Ontario. I admit I probably wouldn't have given her a second glance if I hadn't recognized the city name. We drove all the way out from Portland, had coffee at Jolts & Juice and saw your lovely flower pots on the main street there! :) But when we got to the shelter, we immediately and unexpectedly fell in love with this puppy. She's thriving now with us and it's already hard to imagine what life was like before her! Thank you for that. :) Much love from one growing family to yours!

    You have probably been busy getting to know your precious new bundle of joy and also been a little protective of all of the outdoor elements (e.g., sun, bees, weather, wind, wildlife, etc.). After the first year, you'll be eager to get your baby and family outside for a change of scenery. Your property is so beautiful. You may want to select some areas close to your house to put out bulbs that will spring up later on their own. If you plan in out, you can have lovely flowers blooming over several months without doing a thing or maybe just a little watering. Crocus, Daffodils, Jonquils, Hyacinth, Snowdrops, Tiger Lilies, and Gladiolas, all will do well in Zone 5 with a little attention to the planting depths. It's amazing how beautiful it is to see flowers blooming in a snow covered landscape. Best wishes with the new edition to your family!!

  • @sheree._.
    @sheree._. 6 лет назад

    Contrary to a ton of the comments, I don't think you should turn your formal garden into a play area! Your son is going to love exploring the gardens. I know people mean well when they suggest these things, but I'd hate feeling like I had dozens of chittering aunts and mother-in-laws telling me what I should do lol. You've got a great vision for your space, Laura. Do what YOU want to.

    you could always make the back garden with the urns in, into a adventure playground for Aaron JR???? Just a thought. Kids love running around in soft grass and playing in playgrounds it is already fenced off and you would have more reason to go there. Also getting Chickens is a GREAT idea . I have 11chickens and they are in there own garden off of mine, good to teach children to have responsibility for other things. ....Sorry long comment xx Love the videos you guys do.

    I am extremely envious of your entire property!! From one vegetable gardener to another I would highly recommend putting a table and a couple chairs in the empty space in the center of your vegetable garden. I did not design my raised bed layout with an empty space, something I highly regret and will hopefully be changing next year, just so that I can incorporate in a highly useful table. Congrats on your baby, and my sympathies for your loss. Thanks for your shows I love them

    Yes, I agree with many on here..Just leave the yard where the Urns are alone......Just move the urns to another garden....It would be a GREAT place for that little boy that is on his way when he gets a little bigger.....He then would have his own area to play and have fun, planting his little flower in his mini garden, tree house and playing ball with Aaron..And maybe you could get him a little chicken coop with a few little chickens....You have so many garden's around your Beautiful home....Let your future children enjoy this spot !!!! I think it would be PERFECT !!!!
    BEAUTIFUL drone video Aaron !!!! ♥♡♥

    Love the tour and we miss Dexter too.♡ I was thinking about the formal garden area, how about converting it to a kid play area? You could have a nice play set, sand pit, obstacle course, play house, toss in a chicken coup, a water feature for your son to run around in, etc...like you said, it's tucked away from the rest of the landscape so you wouldn't be taking away from the the the rest of your garden. Plus, you would have a ton of plants you could add in there as well, maybe add a nice covered sitting area for you guys as well!

    Your garden is a dream! You might consider keeping a bit of that soft lawn and also create an area around it with a smooth surface (racetrack loop) for your future kiddo to use push/pull toys, ride a tricycle. Also if you set up a sandbox, art easels, and a kiddie pool under a shaded veranda or pergola. You would always have somewhere outside to play that is stable underfoot for little legs and not subject to the heat of summer and storms in winter when cabin fever kicks in.

Love Love Love the cabbage! So cool the way you designed en mass. You didn't mention the fence line spruces . . . I think they are spruces .... but they look awesome! When you mentioned Dexter I got tears. That little dude I only knew through my computer was so endearing. So, after all of that . . . Why settle for either/or? Utilize 1/3 of the space for a trial/testing area for plantings and such. Because that really is a grand idea. Another 1/3 for chickens, maybe some ducks and other small farm animals. Because fresh eggs really are the best, also children learn alot from caring for animals. And, of course, the remaining 1/3 as a play area. An area that will change and grow with the children. Swing set now, baseball diamond later. Or, go cart track, basketball court, tennis court, where ever the interests may go.

    make that back area you spoke of not using into a whimsical playground area for the new little one to grow into! somewhere to run. climb, jump and pretend! i'd love to see how you incorporated that type of more common "backyard feature" into your elegant estate! i'm sure lots of people would! again- thanks for the tour! inspiring! as always!

    Laura, I hear your pain and feel it. We just bought our house and had all the water, gas and electrical redone. It's no small job. Cheers on your progress.

    I agree about the green space, leave it on the border, its behind the garage? Perfect play spot for soccer, lacrosse, etc, or other activities where you don't want to hit the house or lose balls in the garden. That time goes so fast. Have you ever thought of hosting a few weddings?

    I LOVE your idea of having animals in that spot. If your baby boy could vote I bet he would vote for that as well. I would love to see that as part of your videos! 😄

    Um your home and property are incredible. I recently watched a show about a family that planted a sensory garden for their son. I thought that was AMAZING. So many people suggested a play area, if you went that route you could incorporate sensory plants into it for your kiddos. As a therapist who works with families, too, there are a lot of benefits to a sensory garden developmentally, relationally, and in building resiliency in children! You’re property looks amazing :)

    The view from the drone was amazing. It really helped me visualize your beautiful gardens. Chickens might be nice. Orchard might be fun but a whole lot of work. Also as your little boy gets older you might want to consider a swimming pool and play area.

    So very sorry about your kitty! I was shocked to hear the sad news. 💔 I’m a fairly new subscriber and just heard. Sending hugs. 💐 R.I.P. Dexter

    What a beautiful property you have. I agree with one of the other comments about a play area for the baby. The swing set ,playhouse, soccer area that would be away from plants you want to keep alive. 😀
