Yes, I did contact NOAA about the entangled whale. They had searched for it for a week prior while it was further south and eventually lost track of it before it reappeared in Malibu. Using my data, visual footage, and the help of other spotting volunteers, they were able to set up a rescue. Two days later the whale was freed but the whale died shortly after unfortunately.
@@overworkedkitten4399 probably exhaustion. Who knows how long it had been dragging that net? He also mentioned they won't eat until they reach the arctic, so energy level on that poor whale was probably waaay down. A slow, exhausting death. Poor thing
My husband tells me to watch the news, I watch this! Who wants to watch depression news when I could watch these beautiful majestic animals. Thank you so much for sharing my friend 🐳🥰
I grew up in a house overlooking Zuma beach, and as a kid I used to spend hours just staring at the ocean looking for whales and dolphins. Its amazing to see something I've been seeing my whole life from a totally different perspective, thank you for this.
This was heartfelt. I'll never forget one of my earlier visits to Point Dume back in the mid 2000s. I went to go clear my head on a Friday morning around 10 am (in March or April I believe). I parked and took the short hike up to the Point Dume cliff overlooking the rocks. You see it from the footage at around 0:16. That day I had a heavy burden on the heart that was seriously weighing me down. I went to try to find some peace and perspective. Sitting and staring at the beauty of the ocean usually helps but I just couldn't think straight. About 30 minutes in, I remember seeing a large set of bubbles coming up to the surface of the ocean water just in front of the rocks. I couldn't see what it was but figured it was some animal below. I think about 15 minutes went by as I continued to see the air bubbles then suddenly two whales breached. It was an adult and a calf! For the next 45 minutes, they proceeded to hang out that very spot to scratch the barnacles off their back. It was a graceful sight to see. (At the time, I thought they were humpback whales. I still think they were given what I know but maybe they were gray whales). That morning I was reminded of this quote... “Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where others see nothing.” - Camille Pissaro. In that moment, I saw something unexpectedly rare and beautiful. It made me look at my own situation much differently. Sometimes the right perspective can change how one views and peseveveres through tough times. That moment definitely helped me. It's something I'll never forget. Thanks for posting this video, TheMalibuArtist. Thank you indeed.
True…..maybe if certain people weren’t so hell bent on changing how we view a gay man,or transgender, how mistreated blacks are NOT. What is caring TO YOU?
@@billyguyjoe1858 Depends of what fish it is, whether it is farmed or wild caught. I love eating farmed fish or fish that are considered an invasive species because you are helping the environment and making it safe for the wild populations of fish. Wild caught like trawlers can damage ecosystems and populations of threatened or endangered species(whales often get caught up in trawler nets and lines which is a huge problem).
Years ago, on a boat, a Minke whale and her calf swam up , turned to the side to get a very close up look at us. Then a Finback joined them- same thing, up next to the very side of the boat, rolling over and staring me STRAIGHT in the eyes, they hung around for about a half hour. Truly one of the most exciting days of my life.
Whenever I see whale footage, I get choked up. To see something so magnificent and enormous, but so vulnerable to humans and disaster, it just breaks my heart.
I grew diving, fishing and surfing Pt Dume, always beautiful, whales, dolphins, all kinds of sharks, big Halibut, rockfish, bat rays and much more, it’s a protected preserve with no fishing now, thanks for the unbelievable videos, your professionalism is unmistakable, nobody else is even close... I won’t even mention the drone pilot skills🤙🏽🏄🏻♂️🐳🍻💚🍀
the lack of action to help preserve our planet and the creatures that call it home deeply saddens me, i hope we can make a change before it’s too late..
Really enjoy your videos. Love the music! It brought me to tears to hear about the whale as we could see it swimming! I’m happy to hear that they were able to get the net off but very sad that it didn’t survive.
My fav channel on RUclips. Footage is brilliant just like the informative nature of the channel . Be proud of your work it’s teaching us some of the many secrets of the ocean.

Thank you for your amazing videos. I found you because of my fascination wit Great Whites. However never did I imagine the coast I grew up as a kid of all that lies beneath the surface so close to shore. Eye opening.

I had my own close encounter with a gray and her calf. I was paddling fast to catch up to friends and she popped up in front of me. I back paddled hard to keep from t-boning her. A friend got 3 pictures of the incident. One taken when she first popped up and you can see my reaction.
Sad about that whale dying from the fishing net around its tail. I cried. That bothered me so much. If people didn't exist they would flourish. No extinction. No Covid. No Wars. No Polution. You would think we could all try to do a little better!!

Thank you for this beautiful footage. It's an awesome delight and honor to get to see them in their natural environment and the way they are together.I really appreciate your Channel! I wonder why that whale couldn't have been helped since you had footage that its tail was wrapped in plastic, couldn't people in boats go out there and help release the contriction??
Beautiful footage wish I lived there I live near the coast in England but its freezing and there are no sharks or hardly any whales to be see well we do get the odd one or two but it's not as beautiful as where you live😍
I went to Point Dume a couple of days ago and I saw a 30 foot whale rolling around in the sand! It was amazing, I got my drone up along with 3 others and I got some amazing footage! It’s on my channel if you want to see it!
Great video. Thanks. Weird thought from me, I'm up late and tired. But could we not perhaps find a way to create some sort of machine, platform, or some contraption that could remove barnacles from whales, and make it in such a way that they would learn to use it? I'm sure it would be very difficult, but whales do learn as we know. We just need to get that first whale to use it. But what would 'it' look like? Rollers? With a texture like sand, but located in deeper water? Yeah, I'm up late... but I wonder if anyone thinks of these things - except maybe for marine biologists, oceanographers and marine science people. We have a lot of talent out there.
Beautiful! But why didn't anyone try to remove the net? I've seen it done before so I don't understand why it hadn't been done for this particular whale.
I can't believe that whale died like that. If it was reported why did it take 3 damn days?? It should've been rescued way before that. And to think, it never would've been an issue if humans knew how to clean up after themselves.
I’m seeing way too many blue surgical loop masks in the car parks, on the beach, in the ocean. If you feel inclined to wear one kindly ensure you dispose of it responsibly, or better still take it home with you.

I wanted to know if you had to register your drone with the FAA? Have you had any issues concerning flying your drone over people?
How do those Barnacles attach themselves to these whales?
On that very beach it was shot the last scene from Planet of Apes. The Statue of Liberty right there.
The netting on the tail of whale is heartbreaking, this on us as humans to correct this.
