I’m actually glad to hear Tulum isn’t that cheap? U.S. tourist are constantly exploiting Latin American countries so it’s about time they start charging for their worth 😂 no shade to you guys but I’m pretty sure people wouldn’t be saying the same if it were somewhere like Ibiza
The sad thing is that if it isn’t cheap for them it is over top expensive for actual Latinos because we have the currency exchange and a different economy.
So the thing is that Latinos that live in Latin America can not enjoy this kind of thing unless they are over the top wealthy.
Of course this is ultra luxury and therefore this is super expensive and they charge like this everywhere in the world for this type of treatment. But also I think the reason what she expected it to be cheaper is because she was expecting Mexico prices and they probably in like a LA price tag or something like that.
And if you think about it 97ish% of people in south or Central America can’t not afford that sooo. Idk, lol. I get your point but is also like the prices have become so incredible high that Latinos can not longer be tourists on their on countries!

It is definitely wise to bring your own liquor. There have been so many incidents regarding suspicious deaths of tourists at resorts in Tulum, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun etc. after drinking liquor/mixed drinks made at the resorts, or what was in their hotel room. Also, the taxi’s are very dangerous. My family, friends and acquaintances of my family have horror stories about the taxi’s there. People think because it looks nice, that it must be pretty safe, but it’s not. You definitely have to be alert there and not let your guard down. So glad you and Henny made it back safely.
Henny is totally on point about bringing your own alcohol to your hotel !!

Tulum got expensive as the pandemic went on because it was open. It's caused a boom to the area and because of party goeers doing drugs it also caused a turf war with gangs there, kind of the down side to success. It sucks because it probably won't be affordable again, when I went in August 2020 it was like 500 bucks for the full week.
Tulum got expensive cuz white people started to move there and well you know the rest 🙄
Glad your safe Lauren! Unfortunately, high tourism brings thing like drugs which brings violence. The same thing happened to Tijuana, it used to be safe back in the 70s but then high tourism turned into one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

agreed Tulum is soooooo unique but i just felt like it was too dangerous and expensive. From what I heard, 5ish years ago it was amazing but the last 2 years everythings been getting crazy
@@LaurenGiraldo YO! I went to Tulum in September for a wedding and stayed at Casa Malca (Pablo Escobar's old property) and it was SO EXPENSIVE and I saw so many MG minus the K as well. It was intense and honestly the pro's didn't outweigh the cons for me unfortunately :(

@@sweetnothingscreative resorts are always wild, everytime I go I get an Airbnb for affordable prices (cheap compared to america tho) and get a private chef. Never felt unsafe and only expensive when we go to the high end restaurants

GIRL. This happened last time I was in Tulum about a year ago. TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW on a main street in town when everybody was enjoying dinner. Scariest moment of my life!! Tulum isn't safe anymore :(

Tulum is super dangerous Right now, it used to be a paradise when no one knew about it but now that it’s “trendy” it’s loosing all of its beauty, I loved it when it was a secret now it’s just horrible 😭

Wow, I love how chill you were about the whole ordeal. 😳 It’s an actual traumatic event and I don’t think you guys fully processed it yet. I’ve been to Tulum as well and felt scared only once when I saw some guys in a truck just casually carrying MG’s as well, but other than that it’s a lovely place. I feel like both Tulum and Hawaii are really pricey, so highly recommend to make the effort to go to Bali sometime in the future for your holidays, as the quality you’ll get is so similar if not the same and like half the price. ♥️

Drinking tequila in Mexico definitely hits better! I don’t like drinking it here in the US but when I went to Cancun it went down sooooo smooth 😋

Yeah it's been on the news quite a bit and Mexico is trying to control it but the rise in tourism turned the place into a hot bed of a turf war for drug dealers. It really sucks I really liked Tulum, but in it's success it's found a lot of failure. It's probably a bit safer to just stay in other spots on the Riviera Maya or Cancun.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I am just here to say I had the exact same experience in Tulum. Went for a wedding in October. Wedding was for a weekend and we stayed the whole week after for a vacation. Something happened EVERY NIGHT, dude. By Wednesday we had had enough and went to stay in Playa for 2 days til we had to fly back to Miami Saturday. In playa, sh** CONTINUED to go down! It’s sad because I don’t remember it being like that before :( I completely agree with Kate’s comment.

Omg no this happened to me too when I was in tulum. There was a huge shooting the first night we were there, literally one of my friends came back to our Airbnb with blood on his shirt. Again this was the first night!! So we had to recoup and try to relax and have fun the rest of the week even though they placed a curfew so we technically had to be back inside at 10pm every night.

I went to Tulum last year and I saw a guy getting beat in front of me about some u know "mafia" o "traquetos" issue, THE FIRST DAY I ARRIVED and I was like how am I supposed to continue with my vacation after this traumatic event.

I was visiting my sister in southern california and she took me to santa barbara and while we were walking along state street in broad daylight a huge gang fight broke out and a person was stabbed and killed. we had to run and hide in a store because all of the gang members fled into all of the surrounding streets. it was so scary and it was weird and it took time to process the situation. glad you're okay and that is absolutely a terrifying thing to witness.
Girl you got there the day I left and let me tell you… so scary and we were on a girls trip 😫 with everything that happened we were looking up how far the embassy was 💀
Where I live at, people jus randomly shoot up the sky when they feel like it or have something to celebrate. Every time we hear gunshots it's just background noise LMFAOO
I think the best thing to do lauren, is to cross that bridge when you get there. you are trying to plan and plan ahead but you really don’t know how you will be feeling at the time. you can say now you will give yourself x amount of time but in reality when you are going through it you will have a better understanding of what it is like & what you can handle and what you find challenging and sense of time and feelings. take this time for you and jenny and your child. you still going to make $$$ girl don’t u worry about content you have it in you, it’s inevitable & there will always be endless possibilities. do not out too much pressure on yourself, let the days flow with uncertainty and embrace it all. ❤

Tulum is a hotspot for tourists to do drugs either because they party or want to have "spiritual" experiences and forget/just don't care that it comes at a high high cost. Sad part is they contribute to the safety issues in the country and locals are the ones who have to deal with it year round.

that exact thing happened to me in Tulum in May 2021 and when I walked out of my hotel (which was verrrryyy $$$$$) there was a dead taxi driver in his car. alsoo we had to pay $400USD each for a full moon party and they took our phones away at the door lmaaaaoooo. I’d still do it again tho

I was just in tulum not even a week ago and we stayed at the Hilton All Inclusive and we had the opposite experience. I recommend going there the place deserves to be seen the staff and resort are nothing but amazing!

If you ever want to take a beach vacation you can go to Rocky point,Mexico. Not expensive at all and it’s like 4hrs from Scottsdale. Always had a great experience.
