Hey thanks George I have laboured over getting edges right with background eraser, tuning that tolerance is the greatest thing i've ever seen. thanks so much you have saved me so much time and frustration
Thank you so much for such easy to follow tutorials. The paid tutorial on Photoshop Elements 2020 is well worth the price. One class at a community college was going to cost me nearly $500 bucks, not including the textbooks. I purchased George's tutorial and am now using Photoshop with minimal problems.
George, thanks for going over this. To be honest, I have always avoided this tool like the plague and really wished at times Adobe would just get rid of it altogether. I do appreciate you both showing the tool and also having the hindsight to show the better method of making a selection. This way you don't have to respond to a redundant request asking to see one. Hope you hit your subscription number, time will help and your new content should also! Thank you for all you do! Rich
You're welcome Rich, actually in the new project that I am finishing up right now which will be going up in just a couple of hours I do use the Eraser Tool 2 times where it is appropriate. So not the time to get rid of it yet
Thanks! I noticed a lot of questions on RUclips about using the Eraser so figured I should answer those. Of course I still use the eraser when it is appropriate, used it twice in my Lightsaber project.
Very simple and clear, as always, George. When using Refine Edge, if the Smart Radius is selected but the radius is set at zero, what does Smart Radius do? And when should you set the radius higher, if ever, and by how much?
With smart radius selected Photoshop Elements will use a bit of extra AI on the edge, the higher the number the more AI. The best amount will depend on the specific image. I find that lower numbers tend to work better than higher numbers. I first try it at 0 and if it is fine I leave it at that. If not I will try it at 10, then 20, etc. Sometimes it will have no affect, other times it will help. But basically I leave everything at the lowest setting unless I am having problems with the edge.
I agree, the eraser tool is really old tech at this point, but it can be useful for a fast test. In this video I took a few minutes with the eraser to show how it is used, in practice I would have only spent a few seconds on that test to see if I liked the concept or not. But I never use the eraser in a finished project except on very rare occasions.
If you are using standard brushes then they are round, except for the 1 pixel brush which is square. For square brushes go to the brush Options panel, click on the brush sample which brings up the brushes panel, click where it says Default Brushes and choose Square brushes from the drop down list.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will add that to my to do list. Right now my Bedrock computer is broken, as soon as I can get it fixed I will be doing more Bedrock videos. Probably a couple of months from now unless everyone who watches my videos also subscribes then I will be able to replace that computer sooner.

You're very welcome! And that is the idea behind the training course, keep it cheap so anyone can get it but make it the best course I know how.
Thanks for this! Just what I needed. :-)
Glad it was helpful!
Yay for the selection tool!
It's my favorite tool

@@HTGGeorge Thanks!
@@TCizauskas You're welcome!
Another great video I’m understanding now should have been using layer masks for years.
Thanks! Layer Masks are very useful since you can easily go back in and edit the mask without touching the photo.
👍 Nice video dude!
Thanks!
Is it possible with PSE18 to ake Digital Contact Sheets?
The contact sheet option is in the Organizer. Save to PDF for online use
@@HTGGeorge Many thanks
Give me a selection tool anytime! So much safer, I feel.

is this Elements 2021 you are using on this video?
Hi, this video was recorded in PSE 2020 but it works exactly the same way in 2021
Why is the block erasure tool al;ways small. Theres no way to change the size. Why?
