    You are right, Phrygian mode is very popular in Egyptian and Arabic music. It is called the Kurd Maqam.

    This was insanely helpful! I love the way he teaches this. He makes it fun and easy! I’ve been fondling the guitar for years! I have never understood how though. Doing self study can be really difficult without guidance. This made a lot of sense. Thank you!

    I took ap music theory in high school and was plagued by modes on the test (written- 3, aural- 2, overall 2). I love my teacher, and we really didn't cover modes. it's been five years and I finally understand them now!! Because of you and this video!!!! Thank you so much for sharing and for explaining in an easy to digest way. May your instruments stay in tune and may your jazz stay funky 🧡🧡

      This is the part where music crosses over with quantum physics... from the perspective of quantum physics every atom is energy vibrating... vibrations affect vibrations.

    The whole "brighter vs darker" thing is bs in my opinion ... Any key will sound darker if you play in it using lower frequencies, and brighter using higher frequencies, but that's it. If I play a C major scale, and then move UP to higher notes and play an F major scale, the F major scale will sound brighter for sure. The only reason we think of this whole brighter and darker thing is *because* the circle of 4ths has been around so long in music education.

    • @islandboy9998
      @islandboy9998 3 года назад +4

      Perhaps, but in my opinion it seems you're not really listening.

    • @SRHMusic012
      @SRHMusic012 3 года назад +1

      I was skeptical of this first claim about bright and dark, but it took a moment to get that he's referring to the set of intervals relative to the root of the key. (Not the absolute pitches.) It's a fair question if people never exposed to much music have the same opinion.

    • @OM-md6ki
      @OM-md6ki 3 года назад +2

      I just understood it recently, write out the circle of 5ths in a line, then the 4ths right below it in a parallel line.... Stack them on a piano, stack 5ths its bright lydian, stack 4ths you get minor... And skip every other note, or every 3rd note, and 4th, and so on, and youll see 11 different patterns that make up every scale we use! The circle of 5ths and tritones are crazy and magical

    How musical scales create emotion? I wish that the presenter went more into the mechanics of what he was presenting. He didn’t really answer the question of “how” musical scales do create emotion. It was more of a question and answer presentation. Excellent presentation otherwise. Sorry for the criticism Matt.
