- Multifunction display units can fade over time as the bulbs which provide a backlight blow. On the Peugeot 206 this can be repaired by simply inspecting the bulbs and replacing any which are defective.
To set the language, date, time and unit of temperature the buttons at either side of the display are used.
1 - Pressing and holding the button to the left of the display accesses the settings, information will flash showing that it is ready to be modified. Each subsequent press will cycle between the different settings.
2 - Pressing the button to the right of the display will modify the chosen setting. By leaving the display for seven seconds it will return to the main display having saved your changes.

this video was a perfect help to change the bulbs, i had zero problems. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Thanks, very helpful. Thanks also to the comment that explained about the hexagonal screw as that was really important. My 52 year old mother who is totally not practically minded managed to do this all by herself !!!!
Thanks, didn't know how to remove the trim, tried pulling from front to back, the solution was so much simpler.
Great video, just fixed my 206, thanks very much!
That helped me so much because I just didn't find out what to do ! Thank you very much !
2018 And Still helpful. Thanks.
Thank you very much, in my country the steering wheel is in the left side but the center display is the same, i was thinking that the lights are leds (much dificult to fix) like the instrument panel, but is not like that. Greetings from Santa Rosa-La Pampa-Argentina.
this is so helpful. a new display costs 300 usd in my country. thank you very much
+n00dlesbuilder You're welcome
thank you very much :-)!!!!
Thank you very much. This was very helpful! :-D
Thanks for the tip. Bless u bro
You will need a star shap screw driver to remove the two screws as they are not a philips or flat head, my tip is to put a little bit of blue tack on the scew driver so when the screws come out they are stuck to your screwdriver and you do not drop them, also makes it easier to stick them on the end of the screwdiver when you replace them, great video did mine in less than ten minutes.
great vid thanks its still helping people like me 🤩🤩 if only you mentioned the ref number for the bulb or bulb info
Good to hear the video is still helping people out! Link for the bulbs is in the description.
If it helps the screws will most likely be the original small Torx head T20 types, not crosshead or Phillips unless lost and replaced. Wiring socket on clock unit has a clip which swings over the top of the plug when inserted to lock it into place. You can see it square on at 0:38. Imagine pulling that flat flange around the top towards you and off the end of the plug so it lies flat on the socket edge.
Great video , Thank you for sharing this , I just fixed my son’s car yayyy . 👍👌 Liked and Subbed
thanks for the video. do the 286 bulbs work for the climate control? do you have a video for that?
I thinking about this about 5 months, how to repair this clock backlight. Suddenly I found your video. Thank you very much. South-East Automotive......where are you from?
Thank you so much
Hi can u help me I think there is something wrong with my mpg reader . When I fill up with petrol it used to tell me how many miles left I have in the tank but now it just keeps going up . I have not set it on how many miles I am doing as the only other setting is kilometres . Do u know what's wrong and how can I reset this . Thank u for your time x
Thanks i will try with mine !!
Done it works lovely thanks to you but.......display unit wire(the second one you disconnected) i could nor get that off to disconnect it. So i had to squeeze round it. How did you pull the plug wire from display unit please?. Did i see you lift a flap?
Glad to hear it worked, if you push down the plastic at the top of the connector it releases a lever/flap which you can then pull down to release the connector. At 0:38 you can see I push the top of the connector down with my thumb and pull the lever with my index finger.
omg thank you so much!!!
Boa gostei do vídeo obrigado.
Thank you.
Do you have to disconnect the battery when doing this? Already bought the bulbs, so will tackle this either tomorrow or during the week. Thanks in advance for making this clear informative video!
It is good practice to disconnect the battery before working on any electrical equipment, however I personally did not remove the battery for this particular repair. Many online sources mention potential issues caused by disrupting the BSI unit on a Peugeot if the battery is not disconnected and re-connected in a certain sequence. To avoid complications with the BSI unit I left the battery connected but ensured the radio and ignition were off.
More information on the BSI unit can be found here: tinyurl.com/ptblcs
If you disconnect the battery make sure you follow the correct sequence and know where the security code for your radio is. Good luck, I hope the repair goes smoothly.
I did the repair last Sunday, I also left the battery connected and did what you did and left the radio and ignition off. Only thing that slowed me down were the fact that the dashboard screws had a hex-head whereas I thought they'd be regular screws. Are all car dashboards like that? Aside from that which took a while to find the right tool, everything went fine. I had to stop and refer to the video a couple of times while doing fiddly stuff to make sure that I didn't break anything (the connectors for example, thankfully I didn't!), and yes it all works perfectly. Thank you very much for taking the time to make a video, made it a lot easier and no doubt saved a lot of money compared to a garage. Thanks again!
Glad to hear the repair worked. Not all cars use torx fasteners however you will find them in almost all modern vehicles. Torx fasteners allow a higher torque to be applied to a similar sized screw, as apposed to phillips or posi drive, without damaging either the tool or the screw head. You're welcome, it's great to hear the video helped!
thanks!
thank you sir

What are they we bulbs called, as in size etc. Just so I know what I am looking for when buying them. I have just got my first car. A Peugeot 206 obviously. It's for me to learn how to drive in, with lessons on the side with a proper driving instructor. as I only have a provisional licence.
They are 286 capless bulbs, 12 volt 1.2 watt. You'll find them at most automotive shops like Euro Car Parts and Motor Parts Direct, there is a link in the description for the bulbs also. Good luck with your driving, I hope all goes well.
Thanks for the information.
I've seen another video on how to repair the screen before, but it didn't mention what those bulbs are called, rendering it basically useless^^
Can't do a repair without knowing what the required spare parts are, lol...
What is the reference for the conector they sit in? I'm missing one...
Thank you... My display is still working, when I shine a light on it but there's no light. Now I know how to change it.
how do you change the time and date?
Where do you buy the bulbs from?
Thank you
thanks, that's helpful, but are these bulbs orange or white light?
Kristijan, did you get the answer? I have the same question.
no
The bulbs are standard clear glass incandescent bulbs, I cannot remember what colour light they throw outside the display unit. Once they are fitted the display has an orange colour to it as is shown in the video.
Ok thanks
Thanks Sout :) have a nice day!
how can you change the color on your dashboard?
Thanks
I have the problem with this display that it's too dim.. I replaced the bulbs but I can't control it with the rest of the lights...
Hello there! I would like to ask one question, I have Peugeot 206sw 2003 and I am having an issue, few weeks ago my clock display used to dim when I turn on the headlamps, but now it is pretty bright and nothing changes. I am wondering is something wrong now or it was wrong before? Thank you in advance!
I'm not entirely sure if this is your problem but the Peugeot has a dimmer switch for the instruments which adjusts their brightness when the lights are switched on. It could just be that this switch has been knocked, therefore changing the brightness of the display. To alter the display brightness you simply need to switch on the lights and hold the lighting rheostat (Button on the bottom left hand side of the instrument cluster) until it reaches your desired brightness for night time driving. I hope this solves your problem.

What can I say sir, you got it right! Thank you! Apparently the lights brightness restored at it's brightest as I remove the battery few weeks ago, and I did not notice on the instrument panel, but only on the clock display.. didn't know that they are connected either. Anyway that solved my problem, it works fine now, thank you once again for your kind replay! Have a nice day!
is there a specific way I have to fit the bulb? or can it go in both ways?
The bulb can be fitted both ways.
Thankyou
What Bulbs need to use ?
what do you call the screws that keep the display in place ?
Ryan McDonagh torx screws
I fitted the LED versions of the lamp, not a great idea, the 3 LEDs showed 3 white illuminated spots, not great, incandescent lamps are the ones to go for. I had to scuff up the tops of the LEDs to give some diffusion, it looks better but these incandescent would have been better.
I've fitted 3 brand new bulbs, but my display is still very dim so I can't see the display. What could be wrong?
If the new bulbs are working and the only issue is that the display unit is dim, then I would suggest the issue is probably with the adjustment of the lighting rheostat (See my reply to thech stevanovski). It's possible the new bulbs are bad, however it is unlikely you would have three bad bulbs in a pack unless they were all damaged in transit. Perhaps there is a loose contact, make sure all three bulb holders are twisted roughly 90 degrees clockwise when returned to the display and that the wiring harness is firmly clipped in place.
If none of the above sorts the problem then there may be an issue with the display unit itself or the wiring to the unit.
South-East Automotive sorted, the bulb holders weren't twisted enough, thank you!
Josh Birch I have replaced a new bulbs it's same !! same me !! replay please if you have a selotion
HOW CAN I FIX THE MPG ON YOUR DASHBOARD ON A Peugeot 206 GTI 180
CTTT 93 could be a fault with the headlight. When the side lights or the headlights are on the clock display dims so it doesn't create glare. There could be faulty switch meaning it's dimmed. Constantly ?
I have replaced a new bulbs it's same ! If you have answer please replay me. thanks a lot for your help .
If you have replaced all blown bulbs with new ones, fitted and tightened them correctly and the problem still persists then there may be another issue.
All I can suggest is that the display unit itself may be faulty or the wiring to the unit could have a problem. Sorry I can't be of more help, I hope you work it out!
Thanks for your reply cind of you!
Can you navigat me wich fuze have connected for or working for this display! i think i have mybe problem with a fuze but can't fine out wich fuze is that!!wanna ask about the fuze for this light wich fuze is that ? thanks
The owners manual should tell you which fuse relates to the multifunction display, Peugeotlogic.com has a list of fuses (tinyurl.com/3a4rtns) which seems to indicate it is either number 8, 18 or 22.
Thanks for your comment 👍😎
Nice
Which is the type of bulbs?
