If you read "The Devil's Defender," his lawyer from earlier truly believes Ted Bundy had a death wish. First, before he escaped jail he asked his attorney which states would be most likely to follow through on the death penalty, and one of the states his attorney listed was Florida, and obviously after he escaped he deliberately went to Florida. Also, apparently in spite of the horror of what Bundy did, his lawyer had negotiated life rather than a death sentence in every single state where he committed his crimes as long as he just pled guilty, and he basically walked into the court room and threw that deal out.

If you'd like to see leniency, I'd refer you to the Darrell brooks waukesha parade trial, as he acted pro se, with absolutely no standby council, and he had no idea what he was doing, yet was able to turn the trial into a circus kangaroo court. But there is a good reason for it. Bundy knew the law, he stayed within his bounds of decorum and court rules. The judge did a good job.

I respectfully disagree. Excessively harsh sentencing may give society some sense of catharsis. However in the majority of legal cases, being overly punitive fails to have the deterrent effect that the government pretends it does. Ted Bundy was a monster deserving of a harsh sentence. But the Ted Bundys of the world represent a mere fraction of individuals that find themselves entangled in the legal system. The mentality that every criminal should have the book thrown at them is equal parts ineffective and vindictive.

My uncle my dad's brother was a juror in this trial! Crazy to think he was a part of a trial of one of the most known serial killers in history.
He was initially not chosen and stayed an alternate. A few jurors most women reported they where in fear of being in danger and thought bundy could escape or have someone harm them.
So he was picked to replace one of the open seats. He told me that there would be nights they given menus to a nice steak house and the officers and court staff would hint that the prosecutors wanted to ensure jurors could eat good.
He said it felt like as long as you seemed like you thought he was guilty you where treated better. But if you questioned anything or spoke on in a way that might make people think otherwise you'd get the cold shoulder and dirty looks.
He said the bite mark evidence is what sealed it for him. He also said that he felt bundy was trying to slick talk and make the trial a show for himself to distract from the evidence.
He's a private person. He's was a loner truck driver who wasn't as social as most. He said after the trial was over he had request from thousands and thousands of people requesting interviews and some offered large sums of money. But he wasn't willing to go public and put his face in the news media.
Just crazy to think about. As much as he was never enthusiastic to sit and discuss it, he still would always answer my questions. But my dad has told me most of the stuff I know about it.

I really wish that Bundy was also forced to stand trial for kidnapping and murder charges in the other states as well after he was sentenced to death in Florida, no matter how weak the physical evidence was. This wouldn't allow the judgement of those courts to overrule his sentence in Florida (i.e. he would be executed anyway), but for closure to all the victims' families in the other states, the silent victims who never had their justice heard in a court room (e.g. Caryn Campbell, Lynda Ann Healy, Donna Manson, Susan Rancourt, Roberta Parks, Denise Naslund, Janice Ott etc). His crimes far exceeded the death sentence imposed in Florida. I mean, how can there be ANY appropriate sentence for someone who has tortured, raped, murdered and mutilated the bodies of so many victims?!

In the 1986 movie The Deliberate Stranger there was an interesting statement by Dick Laresen to the detectives during a break in the trial...."he (Bundy) really feels his own pain". The definitely seems to be the case in this video....he feels bad that he was found guilty but couldn't care less about his victims or their families. I think it was to a detective that he uttered..."I'm the most cold hearted son of a bitch you'll ever meet".

The Bible speaks of the devil traversing our planet seeking whom he may devour. It kills me how many claim to be a Christian and are as far from God as east is from west. Look what happened to Job. He did NOTHING wrong but the devil saw that he was a just man and walked with God so he ACCUSED Job to God and said....Job only obeys you because you're good to him. I HOPE you know the rest. Job was a wealthy man but he cared for the poor. I believe the devil does this with ALL of us. This is why he's been labeled, "The accuser of the brethren" because he accuses us to God 24/7. I'm not admonishing you. Evil spirit beings that are very powerful can get us to do wrong and that includes murder. I found out a long time ago that Ted used to work on a suicide hot line. He would help people in trouble. This kind of thing with Ted is all laced through the Bible. It's nothing new under the sun. Again, I'm not calling you out. It's just so very sad to see no winners in this matter.....but there will come a time when everything will be put right. God promises this.

Did anyone ever see the Twilight Zone episode called, "The New Exhibit?" Well it's about a man who is a curator in a wax museum and they have murderers row. These consisted of famous murderers, e.g., Jack the ripper, etc. Well, it was Martin Balsam who played the character. He was just enamored with these wax figures and when the museum closed down, he took the murderers row ones to his home to take care of them. His wife, obviously did not want this kind of crazy thing going on. He would be in the basement all day talking to them like they were close friends. He was proud of them. Before the museum closed, and the people would be touring, he would explain to them, "think of the agony these poor creatures felt and would tell you if they could talk." This one man said, " which ones?" Meaning, the victims or the assailants. Martin Balsam replied, "Oh, both of them, sir, both of them." "To take a life as these poor creatures did and not be able to stop oneself must be shear torture." Anyway, get the correlation? I do NOT in any way at all condone what Ted did. Yes, it's the most awful thing anyone could do. In my heart of hearts, I think there was a part of him that really didn't want to do this. When he was talking about how he would attempt to abduct someone, he would back out and how when he did go through with it, he would feel really horrible after. The people all chanting and joking and carrying signs outside the day before his execution. Do you think God was happy that he was going to die too? I don't. Will it bring the victims back? No. See, I know most will just say, OH! Isn't he horrible! I tell you that ALL of us are capable of such actions. Yes, ALL of us. Not that we would do this but we ARE capable. The answer lies with society. The death penalty will not deter this kind of thing and neither will life, no parole. You see, people, we don't wrestle with flesh and blood but against evil spirits in high places. This is what the Bible says and I believe it. Just look at the past. That's good enough proof. Look at what the judge said......"You're a bright young man, a bright young man. Such a waste of humanity." I could feel what the judge was feeling. He kept repeating....take care of yourself. I think what I'm trying to say is let us take the beam out of our own eyes then we'll see clear to remove the one from our brothers' eyes........
