The men weren't scared at all. Military commanders are the ones who built their houses and led soldiers into battle (who were also men). You can't keep your army or your subjects in check if you aren't a stronger fighter than them. Its also unfair for you to be led by a person who isn't as competent at fighting as you but still expects you to give up your life in case it comes to war. You see this in game of thrones when Joffrey runs away like a coward so the soldiers react negatively which is justified. Tyrion barely convinces them to fight and it works mainly because he is a dwarf being much braver than them. In contrast to this, the men react much better when Stannis or Tywin lead them or when Robb stark gains their trust through his strategy. The targaryens were an exception to all this because they had 2 women who were dragon riders (essentially like a nuclear weapon) along with ageon who conquered westeros. But for obvious strategic and political reasons they adapted to the culture of Westeros since they ruled the seven kingoms and they all had different customs to essos where the targaryens come from. This is why women are behind men in the line of succession or else the other houses are just going to rebel or start taking up sides, which eventually happens in the book.
The first episode shows very clearly why you want a male ruler instead of a female. Imagine your queen dies at childbirth. Ruler dies, heir dies, now you might have a civil war on your hands. But sure, men are scared of having a woman on the throne because muh phemunism.
Rhaenyra isn't in line for being a military commander, she's in line for being the Queen. Not to mention you destroy your own argument by pointing to Tyrion, who had no superior fighting skill and performed no great feats in Blackwater but was able to inspire by putting on a brave face and a great speech. There is no reason why a woman cannot possess these exact same leadership qualities that he or many others have exhibited
Rhaenys doesn't have a claim to the throne anymore because the line can only pass through Viserys and his close family. That's why daemon and rhaenyra both had a claim. Now that rhaenyra has been named heir, daemon and his children can no longer have any claim. That was the same reason why jon snow had a better claim despite being a generation younger than daenerys because he was the son of the original heir, rhaegar targaryen.
The main issue for Jon is the actual proof of it was pretty weak and spurious. If he had made a real effort to claim the throne there would have been significant opposition to him.
Actually Jon snow claimed is also weak because Visery III the beggar king ( Daenerys Brother ) was rightful ruler and then his heir is our Danny , Viserys was also been named by the Mad king as his heir passing over the living Children of Rhaegar to Elia martell older half -siblings of Jon snow so Sorry boy your Jon Snow is just a Pretender under succesion system in Westeros.
@@mikered1974 That's not how it works. The mad king's heir was rhaegar and although he never became the king, the line of succession continues through him. and from rhaegar's son or his brother, its a pretty obvious thing that rhaegar's son aegon will be the rightful heir. aegon being hidden means that viserys would have the claim but it doesn't count anymore considering aegon/jon snow existed all along. this means daenerys's claim was fake just like her brother's in the show they even called jon the rightful heir to the iron throne. he not only had a claim he had THE claim to the iron throne. You can also claim the throne by right of conquest but if Daenerys did that she would be considered a pretender and it would go against all her actions and motivations till season 8 which is mainly why she goes mad. And if for some reason your brain can't comprehend all this, the targaryens and westeros follow an agnatic cognatic succession law meaning that women can only inherit if there is no male heir left. So anyways, daenerys could never be the rightful heir if Jon exists.
@@aahaan2016 and as i say Jon Snow has no Right of Claim because his Father was never been king his Grand father ignored his Elder Half - Sibling when there are still alive and choose Viserys his Heir so now your Getting it if Jon Snow elder sibling was been cast away from inheritance when there are still alive by that its Legally saying this Your BASTARD SNOW will never recognize LEGALLY your Cognatic succesion will work if Jon Snow will be Recognize a Trueborn But in the Show and Books ( Faegon) its proven impossible to Proven because of how he was been Born in the First place which Daenerys will never be a Problem because everybody in the Seven Kingdoms know and Recognize she is the Daughter of the Mad King do you now Get in i do not know if your brain is getting want i was Sending too you.
@@mikered1974 the problem you are talking about with jon is also a problem with daenerys. I haven't read all the books but in the show, one of the masters says he remembers f*cking her in a pleasure house. this basically means Daenerys could just be a pretender. she has basically lived on the streets for a while before being taken by illyrio and I doubt anyone can for sure say that she is in fact who she claims she is. on top of that, no one in westeros has even seen her because she was so young and they can't recognize her. in the end, the common people will speak on both sides. if jon becomes king, they will say he isn't aegon and if daenerys becomes queen there will be doubts if she is who she claims she is. but the truth is that jon was the true heir at least until season 7.
It'not because of that "men are scared". It's because of the traditions of that time, when world where they were living, was created by men with swords. And they expecting that a ruler will be and look strong.
There is literally no difference between what you said and what Larissa said. Men wanted to be led they perceived to be strong, and not by a woman... because they were scared to be led by someone they don't perceive to be strong, like a woman. But a feminine woman ruler can be and look as powerful as a a masculine male one.
I love this episode. That Rhaenyra keeps serving them wine is a display of their power over her and that they don't really take her seriously as a possible queen. I think Viserys is an honorable man and tries to do the right thing in difficult situations, like his wife's. He reminds me of Ned a bit in the first season. I like the creepy and rudimentary look of the the crab feeders.
In the books, the heir is usually the cupbearer (as he can listen to the meetings without participating, as a sort of training). So becoming a cupbearer at the inner council is an honor, not a degradation... that's what you perceive.
In the books Visarys in 38 at this stage. Alicent is 17 and Rheanyra is 8. They have aged Rhaenyra up to 15, but as far as we know, they have kept everyone else the same age.
@@miker.9138 its the middle ages and medical technology basically doesn't exist. he also has a lot to worry about since he is the king and has many responsibilities. robert and ned were around 40 too at the start of the show and they looked old too.
Daenerys was married off at the age of 13 and Sansa was 13 when she was engaged to Joffry so being 12 isn't that much of a streach for how things go in this realm that the story takes place in also let's not forget that the Targaryan line is known to have sisters marrying their brothers, neices with uncles and vis versa and so on which makes me think that perhaps Daemon and the princess are going to be the ones to start that tradition but that's just how I see things possibly going seeing how I know nothing of the book. I agree they messed up the last season in every way..things were rushed and characters made decitions that there is no way they would ever make and the battle of the undead was too dark and too quick as well though the writer did promise that he would fix the mess they made with a new book so hopefully he did so.
People marry younger in society where death is prevalent. When you can die soon, things tend to be done as soon as possible. Marrying a 12 year old person to have a kid at 15 in case they die by the early 20s seemed like a good strategy back in the day.
@@Alejojojo6 I never said I was surprised they did that and personally he should have married the 12 year old over Alicent poor her and poor his daughter as well but him marrying a 15 year old to him made more sense plus he was starting to have feelings for her as well.
Nice one, Larissa! I like how you're trying to grapple with the values & sensibilities of the time. We really shouldn't visit our 21st century morals & standards on this world, since (by G RR Martin's own admission) this is a world of the 12th century rather than the 21st century (where typically noble daughters really were married off as teenagers). It's not so much that the Lords are "scared" at the thought of a Queen (though they probably are too) but in this world, military skill and strength are often seen as key requirements - and the lack of it is seen as failure and weakness. Rhaenerys showing that isn't scared of confrontation is something she would be admired for!
It's kind of interesting seeing how people are reacting far more strongly to this situation than Tommen's (a boy) in GoT who was also very young and being literally preyed upon.

This show is great so far. I'm hesitant to even read the book bc I just wanna go into this series with fresh eyes. Also I really can't wait for Jon Snows series. I think that will be a limited series but still, it will give us info on what happened after the disaster that was the last season of GOT. I still often wonder what would happen if Daenerys was actually still alive. That her Dragon took her away before anyone could really confirm she was dead. Just a theory lol
Noooo…choosing an heir has nothing to do about allowing the new generation to shine and forgetting the old gen. It’s about securing the line of succession. Also think about it, women cannot ascend the iron throne because their heirs would change the house’s name. That would mean all of the noble houses too. It’s not about sexism. You know that’s the lamest reason right? It would destroy the system. Women can reign like a lot of queens in GB history, but because there wasn’t a male heir. And there was a special dispensation in Elizabeth II rule to have her male children heirs take her name of Windsor and not Mountbatten like their father except her female children.
I feel like if people did the math, they wouldn't be so against the Laena Velaryon match. Yes it is gross and she is way too young, but so is Alicent, in the show they're only 3 years apart. Viserys is so disgusted by the idea of marrying a 12 year old, and waiting until she's 14-16 to consummate the marriage, but sees no problem with marrying 15 year old Alicent and getting her pregnant. If he'd married Laena, he would have had more time to properly grieve Aemma before having more children, so maybe he'd have a better relationship with his kids by his second wife. I hope this doesn't come off as "I support child marriage", it just genuinely seems like the better of the two options, I'll never understand how Viserys couldn't see that marrying Rhaenyra's dearest friend as cruel.
Even in Game Of Thrones they weren't marrying 12 year olds. It's gross and repulsive but that's how it was back in those days (And even these days in some parts of the world.) This show is pushing the boundaries already and I love it. Don't play it safe.

I was expecting so little of this show that i think i'm enjoying it all the more ebcause of it. I LOVE Rhaenyra already, she seems like a mix of Danny and Arya, so it was always going to be a winning combo.
And i'm right with you with her and Alicent, since their first scene together it's always looked to me that they at least liked/have a crushed on each other, and that look at the end was more than your father marrying your "best friend", she honestly looked heartbroken to me. I really, really, REALLY doubt the show will ever go there, but for now i'm really enjoying them and their relationship, and looking forward to seeing what that looks like on the next episodes.
PS: Thanks for saying it, cause i've only seen like a couple more people mentioning their relationship as at least somewhat romantic, and i was thinking i was crazy cause the subtext was blatant for me, and noone was seeing it?? 😂Anyway, really enjoyed the reaction and looking forward to more. ^^
10:37 I would of waited until I got home 😂😂😂😂
This two women are definitely not in romantic love with each other xD you will see later why... hahaha
When she first started talking, I thought she was a ghost.
Rahnerya and alicent are childhood besties...very close more like sister and partner in crimes... + Gossips kind of Bonding that's all
Hi Larissa! Welcome back to Westeros! Glad to see you again & great that Game of Thrones is back again. Awesome reaction! ✌❤👍
J'ai vu les sous titres en français pendant l'épisode, tu parles français du coup ? 😅
Even in modern society this mindset is still fairly prominent.
There is literally no difference between what you said and what Larissa said. Men wanted to be led they perceived to be strong, and not by a woman... because they were scared to be led by someone they don't perceive to be strong, like a woman. But a feminine woman ruler can be and look as powerful as a a masculine male one.
U can't argue with Faminiest.. I their mind woman are same as man.
So becoming a cupbearer at the inner council is an honor, not a degradation... that's what you perceive.
your Targaryen hair 😭😭
Viserys isn't 60 or anywhere near that age.
He is around 35 y/o.
Viserys - 29y/o
Alicent - 18 y/o
in book, showrunners make Viserys, Otto look creep
@@zaar85 What kind of math is that? How did you manage to get 29?
It's been a rough 35 years
In the books Visarys in 38 at this stage.
Do you think It's a good idea to read the book while watching This show..... You will get spoilers?
Yeah and sj3e made otto look weak and he now knows she isnt just a stupid little girl with a dragon and now sees her as a threat to his own plans
It's kind of interesting seeing how people are reacting far more strongly to this situation than Tommen's (a boy) in GoT who was also very young and being literally preyed upon.
Haha lmao you cracked the episode on the pirate bay.
I don’t believe she had a crush on miss Hightower… they were in a sense best friends.

I WISH YOU GOOD FORTUNE IN THE WARS TO COME.
6:04 as if the crab thing wasn't enough
2:20 Rhaenyra is now the heir to the Iron Throne and no one on the council respects her and just look at the scene, Otto cut Rhaenyra off when she was speaking and Viserys didn't do anything in that situation. If it was Daemon he's already shutting everyone up, mainly from Otto, in the scene with Rhaenys it's Rhaenyra, everything Rhaenys said to Rhaenyra is true, Rhaenyra is heir to the iron throne and yet she continues to give them wine, but the truth is she is participating in the council, but as Rhaenys Said they won't want a woman
Viserys shouldn't have married Alicent he made a wrong choice and now there will be consequences for his choice, Viserys should have married Laena in the book she is At least Rhaenyra's age unlike in the series they put a child I don't know why they did that Probably to be more controversial because he's a child, but anyway he should have chosen Laena and not Alicent and you'll realize that his choice was a mistake when you watch the rest of the episodes
Rhaenyra is basically Arya Targaryen
I think people need to stop comparing characters, Rhaenyra is her one person and i dont want for viewwers think she is hero type character and then beeing disappointed. It only start for her and she will change her behavior.
Rhaenyra is Dainerhys great...great...great grandmother, their resemblence is no accident...gosh...HBO had good casting crew. LoL
That’s her best friend not her crush 😂😂wtf y’all getting this from
Young people are always trying to make people gay.
I wonder if Melisandre will turn up!
Oh first, this was a nice Episode
Great video and i already love House of dragons🙂
I like that T-shirt how are you lucky enough to acquire that? I never seen that one
So the redhead is supposed to be 15 correct? Lol, tjis is like that drake meme
"12? Nah, 15? How you doin"
dig the review 💫
Noooo…choosing an heir has nothing to do about allowing the new generation to shine and forgetting the old gen. It’s about securing the line of succession. Also think about it, women cannot ascend the iron throne because their heirs would change the house’s name. That would mean all of the noble houses too. It’s not about sexism. You know that’s the lamest reason right? It would destroy the system. Women can reign like a lot of queens in GB history, but because there wasn’t a male heir. And there was a special dispensation in Elizabeth II rule to have her male children heirs take her name of Windsor and not Mountbatten like their father except her female children.
good luck with your internship...thank you for your reactions
Because their friendship was a show invention.
"So obviously in love" Lesbian perceptions 😂 they're just close friends, nothing to see here
Nice white hair you have. Do you have a dragon too?
Even in Game Of Thrones they weren't marrying 12 year olds. It's gross and repulsive but that's how it was back in those days (And even these days in some parts of the world.) This show is pushing the boundaries already and I love it. Don't play it safe.
Not the writers making rhany and alicent’s friendship last an episode and half 😭it was good while it lasted
They are not in love, stop trying to make people gay when they clearly aren't
Can you imagine if Rhaenyra had a wedding like this in ep3, as her father watched on? OMG. You are the only reactor I have seen who makes this attraction from Rhaenyra. Maybe you could be the object of her affection? Ha! Please watch the video I just posted. I know you will enjoy. Caio.
No men are not scared to be lef by a woman.... they are scared that she would destroy everything... like ya know... Queen Cercie or the other mass muderer queen Deanarys.. 😂👍🏼
Why would a man want to be led by a woman lmaoo
Thank the gods I’m not the only person who thinks those girls are gay. All the podcasts I listen to are straight men and they never mention anything so I thought I was reading into it too much
They aren’t gay. They aren’t gay in the books not the show.
Do they not realize Daemon is her love lol why do they try to force this lesbian stuff.. read a book.
Ikr its irritatiing they were no indications of it just these brain washed american people pushing for this lesbian relationship bruh
They aren’t it’s just Larissa interpreting it wrong since I can’t spoil but she definitely isn’t lesbian.
They aren't forcing anything, they are best friends, they are completely platonic. She is wrong about them being interested in each other.
Also, nothing wrong with lesbians.
they didnt force anything. Rhaenyra loved Laena, who is a woman, in the book.
