Hi, can you explain why you anchor the thread away from the design, not at the back, please? If there's something in it that will improve my beginner skills, I'd like to know...

I don’t want the back to get too messy so I anchor them to the side, then make a couple little stitches in an area that will be embroidered over, which secures the thread, and then I just cut them off.
