Great episode guys. You are turning into real foodies. Albania was never on my map but thanks to you it is now. Ivanna's expression when tasting Raki was another 6 stars. Raki is also drunk in Turkey but has an aniseed flavour. Keep up the great video's, I can't wait for more!

I think for an upcoming cooking vlog we will try to make fregese (the cheese dish). It would be a great thing to learn how to make because honestly it's so yummy and would be great to serve at a party. Everyone can take some bread and scoop up some cheese and nibble
We eat this things as a normal meal ,I mean everyday. The stuffed peppers are filled with rice, tomatoes and the main herb is oregano.Fergesa is something that we do it this way or with tomatoes in it too,it's delicious both ways.You guys have to try tave dheu and tave kosi 😋

The food looks so flavourful and healthy! Oda is also a Turkish word meaning room. Such a cool restaurant indeed! The rice looks like the varieties used in Turkey...short and plump! They must know how to cook lamb! Raki is also an alcoholic drink inTurkey!
Great video guys!! The food amazement has begun. There are sooo many amazing restaurants to try other traditional Albanian foods. In Tirana there is Mullixhiu, Ceren Ismet Shehu (has cooked for the Queen of England). Near Tirana, in Lezhe there is the world renown Mrizi I Zanave Agroturizëm. You will love everything about that place! Talk to the owners if you can, amazing people. Also, you can get a cool tour guide to take you to amazing places, hidden gems that you wouldn’t normally find on your own. Do what David’s Been Here did. He had the most amazing time and food you could imagine and raki and wine. All local. Enjoy!!! 👐🏻 (double headed eagle) sign Albanians do with the hands to represent the flag.

The cottage cheese fergesë is very very common here. Uncooked cheese is extremely good aswell. And u eat it with EVERYTHING , you put the cheese in pasta, you eat it with meat, you eat it with salad, you eat it with yogurt, you put cheese when you are cooking an egg and make a delicious omlette, and you use the cheese to make cheese pie which is also a traditional dish and the cheese is salty yes and sometimes if u like it a lot u eat just cheese as a snack😂 We eat "fergesë and stuffed pepper " regurlary. Its a normal dish here 19:00 yes steve. We ALL do that as albanians😂😍its the best part Oh you have to try "Japrak" at one point and bakllava which is a traditional dessert

The cottage cheese you had is a USSR version. And yes, it is (probably) the best cottage cheese in the world. I had in Russia and it is mind-blowingly good. Watching you eat it makes me drool and reminiscing the taste. 😋
Yo! I always thought cottage cheese was sort of bad tasting. I think because I didn't have it very often and the name cottage cheese doesn't sound attractive lol. But after eating Fergese, I now know that cottage cheese is delicious :D
Having been to Turkey the food seems very similar. However they use some extra spices. Yet to see if they do the same in Albania. Meat looked tender and yummy. I had something similar in Turkey again. I watched that while having my dinner. So didn’t feel so bad. 😂

Steve, I share your interest in history so I'll try to answer your curiosities about the kind of relaxed Islam followed in Albania. As you mentioned in your first video, they were under Ottoman rule who brought Islam to the local population (which was mostly Christian at that time) and then were later taken over by the communists and finally Soviets (also communists). During the communist regime, there was a ban on religion, so imams and priests were persecuted, mosques and churches were destroyed. During the 45 years, practicing religion was illegal and so people of nearly 2 whole generations were separated from religious practices. When the regime ended, the population wanted to identify themselves with what their ancestors believed in out of spite for the communists so they called themselves Muslims but had had a completely non-religious lifestyle for years. So religion was not important in daily life it was just an identity. Plus, the current generation wants to look progressive and relevant in the 21st century so they like to dress and act modern - they don't want to look like a poor and backward nation like they had been for most of the recent centuries because of constant foreign rule. SO - most "muslim" Albanians don't practice Islam and they eat pork, drink alcohol, have sexual relations without marriage, and often marry Christian partners. Many of them have never performed a Muslim prayer. So, interestingly, it is difficult to find halal restaurants in Albania.
@@furqanmk soviet regime? That only lasted 10 years. It had nothing to do with religion. Only was because of comunisem. Also before the turks there was christianity and before that there was only belief in the albanian People
Its yeni raki that similar with ouzo or anice, western balkans has their own raki or rakija. In generally serbians, bosnians and montenegrins use raki made from plums ( shliva or shkivovitsa) albanians generally made raki from fermented grape. But need to pay attention to drink raki because go more 70% of volome alcohol.
Of course it’s a way to eat it, you need to dip it ore just eat the bread first and fërgesa after, but all the key here is to balance the bread with fërgesa in your mouth so u get the right flavour, balance my friend balance it is everything 😋

nah it‘s not USSR, we in Albania and all over the Balkans make that type of cheese since Jesus times lol

Having been to Turkey the food seems very similar. However they use some extra spices. Yet to see if they do the same in Albania. Meat looked tender and yummy. I had something similar in Turkey again.

Steve, I share your interest in history so I'll try to answer your curiosities about the kind of relaxed Islam followed in Albania. As you mentioned in your first video, they were under Ottoman rule who brought Islam to the local population (which was mostly Christian at that time) and then were later taken over by the communists and finally Soviets (also communists). During the communist regime, there was a ban on religion, so imams and priests were persecuted, mosques and churches were destroyed. During the 45 years, practicing religion was illegal and so people of nearly 2 whole generations were separated from religious practices. When the regime ended, the population wanted to identify themselves with what their ancestors believed in out of spite for the communists so they called themselves Muslims but had had a completely non-religious lifestyle for years. So religion was not important in daily life it was just an identity. Plus, the current generation wants to look progressive and relevant in the 21st century so they like to dress and act modern - they don't want to look like a poor and backward nation like they had been for most of the recent centuries because of constant foreign rule.
SO - most "muslim" Albanians don't practice Islam and they eat pork, drink alcohol, have sexual relations without marriage, and often marry Christian partners. Many of them have never performed a Muslim prayer. So, interestingly, it is difficult to find halal restaurants in Albania.

@@furqanmk soviet regime? That only lasted 10 years. It had nothing to do with religion. Only was because of comunisem. Also before the turks there was christianity and before that there was only belief in the albanian People

Its yeni raki that similar with ouzo or anice, western balkans has their own raki or rakija. In generally serbians, bosnians and montenegrins use raki made from plums ( shliva or shkivovitsa) albanians generally made raki from fermented grape. But need to pay attention to drink raki because go more 70% of volome alcohol.

Of course it’s a way to eat it, you need to dip it ore just eat the bread first and fërgesa after, but all the key here is to balance the bread with fërgesa in your mouth so u get the right flavour, balance my friend balance it is everything 😋
