Great video guys!! The food amazement has begun. There are sooo many amazing restaurants to try other traditional Albanian foods.
In Tirana there is Mullixhiu, Ceren Ismet Shehu (has cooked for the Queen of England).
Near Tirana, in Lezhe there is the world renown Mrizi I Zanave Agroturizëm. You will love everything about that place!
Talk to the owners if you can, amazing people.
Also, you can get a cool tour guide to take you to amazing places, hidden gems that you wouldn’t normally find on your own. Do what David’s Been Here did. He had the most amazing time and food you could imagine and raki and wine. All local.

The cottage cheese fergesë is very very common here. Uncooked cheese is extremely good aswell. And u eat it with EVERYTHING , you put the cheese in pasta, you eat it with meat, you eat it with salad, you eat it with yogurt, you put cheese when you are cooking an egg and make a delicious omlette, and you use the cheese to make cheese pie which is also a traditional dish and the cheese is salty yes and sometimes if u like it a lot u eat just cheese as a snack😂
We eat "fergesë and stuffed pepper " regurlary. Its a normal dish here

Steve, I share your interest in history so I'll try to answer your curiosities about the kind of relaxed Islam followed in Albania. As you mentioned in your first video, they were under Ottoman rule who brought Islam to the local population (which was mostly Christian at that time) and then were later taken over by the communists and finally Soviets (also communists). During the communist regime, there was a ban on religion, so imams and priests were persecuted, mosques and churches were destroyed. During the 45 years, practicing religion was illegal and so people of nearly 2 whole generations were separated from religious practices. When the regime ended, the population wanted to identify themselves with what their ancestors believed in out of spite for the communists so they called themselves Muslims but had had a completely non-religious lifestyle for years. So religion was not important in daily life it was just an identity. Plus, the current generation wants to look progressive and relevant in the 21st century so they like to dress and act modern - they don't want to look like a poor and backward nation like they had been for most of the recent centuries because of constant foreign rule.
SO - most "muslim" Albanians don't practice Islam and they eat pork, drink alcohol, have sexual relations without marriage, and often marry Christian partners. Many of them have never performed a Muslim prayer. So, interestingly, it is difficult to find halal restaurants in Albania.

Its yeni raki that similar with ouzo or anice, western balkans has their own raki or rakija. In generally serbians, bosnians and montenegrins use raki made from plums ( shliva or shkivovitsa) albanians generally made raki from fermented grape. But need to pay attention to drink raki because go more 70% of volome alcohol.
