i also bought this exact model. and just like in this video, it buzzed a lot. quite annoying. i thought, well plastic ukes are just not a real thing if you want nice sound while travelling. THEN i took a chance on Outdoor Ukulele and what a difference! better build, lower action, no buzzing and seemingly more durable material. you will pay double, but you will get a vastly better built ukulele, made by a small company on the pacific west coast.
I bought the solid black Waterman for travel at Bertrand's in San Diego, CA. It's 21" long so it fit in my 22" carry on. It sounds fine for a plastic Ukulele. You can't expect the quality of a wooden Uke. Very glad I had it to take on my trip. It'll be going to the beach, on my camping trips, and on my bike & kayak tours...I recommend for travel.
No absolutely you can't expect a plastic instrument to match up with a wooden equivalent. I just think you need to go into the purchase with your eyes open. If you're not getting the benefit of it from it's durability, portability and the fact it's waterproof then I'd probably go with something else from Kala/Makala.
I got the same one for travel and teaching. Works great and the students think it's cool, lol. No buzzing at all. Sound isn't as loud as I'd like but, still does what I need it to and it isn't weather sensitive, ethic is a persistent problem during wet and cold Midwest weather.
My students use these in my classroom. Yes, the action is high, but it's a tough little thing that can be knocked around and wiped down. I like that it's plastic, so the shape doesn't change. I don't have to worry about frets poking out and hurting little fingers.
Are you sure bridge and saddle are one pice? I have the concert version and you can take of the saddle on that one. It looks as it is one piece as it has the same colour but when you remove the strings the saddle comes of. I know for sure cause I installed a pickup and therefore I had to grind of a bit of the saddle...
The saddle comes off but there's no separate bridge. The bridge and saddle are just one piece is what I meant - that's what the soprano is like. Hope that makes sense.
How did you get your strings to keep tuned?? I don't mind the buzz (it is plastic after all) but it takes me several minutes to get it tuned properly and after a minute if 2 of playing it's already out of tune.
@@jazzsicily6289 ok so it's definitely possible that the strings are still stretching out. Keep playing and keep tuning, if it's still a problem after 3-4 days drop me another comment
I must be the fortunate one that has one of these with great action, and no fret noise. The set up is perfect, the action isn't high and it sounds great with a warm tone not expected from a soprano uke that is plastic composite. Of special note: the little song foldout that you get with it has the wrong fingering for E7 - they have it listed as E7 with the fingering for Emaj7. So just ignore that fingering and use the one for E7 and not the one shown on the fold out.
@@giovannibloom6433 I did do a quick search to see if I could find anything about Kala updating the design but haven't been able to find anything. That doesn't mean they haven't though.
I wanted to but one for my bf. He plays guitar, but I wanted something new for him. I know you said you wouldnt recomend as a first uke, but with his expirience, is it posible for it to be easy for him?
I'm sure he'd be fine with it, and if you're buying it for camping or travelling or whatever then yeah it would make sense. The novelty of the looks does wear off though and you're left with an instrument that is a bit harder to play than others at a similar price.
I've been playing a uke a year in March 2019,but been playing 6-string and bass guitar since I was a kid. The uke has been a blast to learn and play and so glad I invested in one. I pray it nearly every day. 😊👍
I just got one of these from Kala fun to have around the house to show of in front ppl lol the one I got the logo is different so might be slightly different model cool lil thing tho
Hey, sorry for the delay in answering. That was a little bit of the theme from The Last Of Us by Gustavo Santaolalla, you can find the tab on Al Wood's website www.ukulelehunt.com
I don´t know why everybody is afraid to say the truth about this waste of plastic and energy and time... Someone gave one of these to me as a gift, and man, if you think action is high, just wait six months or so while the top increases bowing downward, fret "paint" dissappears, and you spend every time precious minutes tuning and re-tuning. not a beginner uke, ´cause it will disappoint the best student. Im sorry, but that is my experience.

My first thought was "finally a ukulele i can take with me into the bath" :D it actually doesnt sound so bad for a plastic uke!
It would be pretty handy in the bath - also it would float!
Ro Yeah unfortunately the water takes ages to come out
Ikr me too
u couls also buy a enya nova crbonfiber ukelele hahahahah but no joke u could use it in the bath 😂😂
What moderate priced brands of ukelele would you recommend for a first time adult with no music skills but wanting to try the ukelele.
When you play it from far away and pple can see your shirt threw it you will look like wizard

I have several different Kala instruments. Super happy with the plastic one for traveling. I wouldn't want to damage my other wooden Kala instruments.
Yeah, good shout. I love Kala, they make some great ukuleles

Oh yeah they're pretty much bulletproof that's for sure.
Wonder woman wants her uke back
MrBanjo You're going to have to explain that one to me I'm afraid!
Ukulele Go She has an invisible jet/plane
MrBanjo Oh! I never knew that, thanks! I'll send it back her way, she seems pretty busy lately though.
Ahahah 🤣😂 Didn't know Diana played the uke! I think Wonderwoman and Batwoman would make a great band, since Kate plays the guitar 😉 World's Finest!

Make a good hiking uke.
Sawlon Yeah, definitely
It doesn't. It goes out of tune just from playing in the sunlight.
1:10 the moment i was waiting for... awesome :3

Is it the soundtrack from the last of us? It sounds really similar

How do you clean the sticker off?
I’m afraid to acrylic might get cloudy?
I can't remember mine having a sticker on it? Soak it in water would work well, keep the tuners out of the water though.

A very talented man

Great review, what song were you playing at 0:20?
It's not a song as far as I know, I think I picked it up from a chord progression exercise years ago
Playing Santaolalla is worth the thumps up!
Well spotted (or should that be heard)
Can you tell me the theme song when you start playing at 1:10?

What was the first song you started playing ?
It's not a song I don't think, just a progression of chords that I found somewhere

£40 for a plastic soprano uke tho

Ok. Add me on so I can msg you. My Ukulele is pretty good. It’s blue and black.
For $20 it would be fantastic. For $50 it's only a few dollars away from a solid starter uke, and completely not worth it.
I can't disagree with that
Can u add pickup to a plastic ukulele?
You can. You wouldn't be able to put an under saddle pickup on but yeah you can. Outdoor sell them with pickups fitted.
