  • This is a commercial produced in 1984 for the now-defunct amusement park Hanna-Barbera Land, which was located in Spring, Texas in Harris County, slightly north of Houston.
The park featured attractions, rides and characters from the now-defunct Hanna-Barbera Productions animation studio that gave birth to classic characters such as Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, The Jetsons and Yogi Bear.
The only characters that didn't belong to the studio or park, but was prominently featured was the Smurfs. That was because Hanna-Barbera had produced an aminated series based on the characters that ran on NBC's Saturday morning schedule from 1981 to 1990.

Two things no longer in Houston/Spring Texas area. SafeWay & Hanna Barbera Land. Safeway became Apple tree (now owns Randall's) HBL became Splash Town, Six flags Splash Town, Splash Town (different owners) Now Hurricane Harbor (part of Six Flags AGAINNN!) Whewww! Alas I never got to visit HBL.

You also forgot across from Hanna-Barbera land the Goodyear blimp used to be housed there where the Lowe’s is now. Also down on greens Road used to have Scooby Doo’s pizza place.

The Smurfs was originally a Belgian comic strip created by a cartoonist drawing under the pen name Peyo. In the case of both H-B and Sony, they’re likely licensed from Peyo/Peyo’s estate (can’t remember if he’s still alive).
