First time I saw this movie I was literally ROFLMAO and crying. The way the scene kept unfolding gags that escalated the humor and ridiculousness of the situation was pure genius. One of the funniest scenes of all time in my book.
Unfortunately the American Gladiators thing at the end is a really dated joke. Younger folks can't get it unless it is explained, and then it's still a bit abstract. Everything else is a clean reference to a decent movie. The Platoon/Apocalypse Now/ Wall Street reference is quite possibly the greatest lead-up and trifecta payout in parody history.
I remember watching this on a Friday night, 10 years old, at a sleepover party with my best friend. We probably had homemade pizza and muddy buddies that night. Incredible memories, great movie.
Every part of this scene is funny, especially when the ref got his face kicked in both ways, and the colonel was eating that sandwich with a pig snout in it.
Yeah ... The ending of the fight is cut from this clip, though. He gets up and grabs Topper. IIRC some knife or something is involved. What follows is a tickle from topper followed by a literal nutcracker that incapacitates the whole audience in pain-by-proxy aside the military dude who somehow endures it and the girl. The dude spits out two walnuts, proclaims in a high pitched voice that topper won and falls down unconscious. Guess it is cut from this clip because it would be to sexual for youtube guidelines or something.
