- Are you interested in becoming an early childhood educator? ABCD's First Steps Into Childcare program can make it happen. This free program is available for income eligible residents of Boston, Malden, Medford & Everett. In First Steps, you learn everything you need to know about how to be a teacher, and how to get your career off the ground. You’ll learn about creating a safe and healthy learning environment; effective teaching methods; how to support children’s social and emotional development, and more. First Steps participants can also receive an accredited education college course through the Urban College of Boston.
First Steps also helps participants search for a job in their field. When you successfully complete the program, you’ll have the opportunity to interview for a job at ABCD Head Start or a childcare provider in ABCD’s extended network. First Steps offers job placement assistance and career counseling at all stages of the program: pre-employment, during employment and post-employment.
