This is just not how the military works. It makes the story impossible to listen to. The aliens would have been passed along to some other unit, Military Intelligence or Military Police, for transport, then they would likely have gone to one of the three letter agencies for interrogation. The troops on the ground that fought the initial battle would not have stayed with them. That first troop to render aid would have been sent back to his original assignment the next day and would never have seen the aliens again and his whole team would likely have been threatened with prosecution and made to sign secrecy documents to never talk about what they did and what they saw. That troop is certainly not a scientist that would have been involved with any kind of research and development process. It would have made more sense for an actual scientist to get involved with the aliens, and the aliens would never have been allowed on the front line of some kind of battle, because they would have been considered and valuable source of information (intel) and they would have been in protective custody.

Science fiction or not, a story must have some connection to reality and this has none. There is a limit to what suspension of disbelief can cover.
