    This is wonderful for an old man to see! I was 15/16 and doing this from TX to Canada.
    Makes me realized how little we were doing in '59/60 in a Massey with a 14 ft Header!

      My Dad and Uncle ran an 8 combine crew that harvested from Tx to Canada in the mid fifties. I can't imagine the time it took with a 14ft head to harvest a field back then. Farm machinery has come a long way in helping the farmers and ranchers of today. My hats off to those who help feed our nation !

      @@bigtractorpower , for what it's worth, if it's worth anything, I absolutely love your new(er) "generation" type videos with your duly informative commentary, and (not but), and there is also imho something to be said for these stellar videos of yours that are early "generation" thus without the informative commentary and without what I consider to be the deepest flaw of other great agriculture channels, which is the constant camera angle change ... because for what it's worth, although both of those are valuable for one type of shared video, both of those also come at the cost of disallowing the viewer the ineffable privilege of vicariously (through you) actually standing there in that field as if they really were personally there irl.
      For what it's worth, if anything. My intent here is in hopes of being constructive, not destructive. Just food for thought, worthwhile or not.
      Happy new year Jason and warmest regards to you and yours from a 10+ year grateful subscriber and 4th generation farmer/rancher here in southern Alberta roughly 150 miles NW of Welker's Farm (which was also est. 1912)

    yeah I would say, that is a lot of combines and they are nice looking machines.

  • @caseman7896

    I am disappointed that so many combines now have black colored headers and in a lot of makes the chassis is painted black as well. John Deere used to have their grain headers painted yellow. I will be the first to admit that I am a hopeless romantic at heart. One way or other it is always so good to watch wheat harvest in action-especially on a sunshine day. Thanks for showing.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  8 лет назад +1

      The 3300/4400/6600/7700 combines always stood out with yellow cab tops and grain reels. We are always on the look out to film these classic machines in action. We caught up with s 7700 in beans last fall.

    Wow, that maschines are incredible. I love combines since I was a little kid and I always wanted to be a driver of one of these. Unfortunately, 95% that it will never happen. Also, here in Poland there is not many so huge combines. Most of the farmers have only up to several dozens of acres and using old, slow combines with only 3-4 meters headers. You may check, Bizon Z056 :) Maybe they are old, but they have soul. I love sound and look of it, it's very recognizable.

      @@handykeppy7333 very true ! I have applied for custom harvest crew from Czech republic a succeed (trough agency though) ! Leaving next month to Montana, I am so excited. But I disagree on we do not have big machinery here in Europe. Unfortunatlly, many farms are being bought to big corporations and they do have a big equipment. Lexion 760 is sooo common here, not to mention 780, CR10.90, S690...but Lexions are the most common (I guess they are the best, farmers over there do not have a problem with the money with all those subsidies.

      those are more than likely custom cutter machines they will never see a shed they are rode hard and put away wet and when they are done with them and ready to get new ones these machines are half worn out and will be bought by small farmers that can't afford the nice new shiny ones

    Why don't they stop the header when unloading?

    • @johnh1235
      @johnh1235 8 лет назад +1

      probably because it takes time to start it up again. also, its less wear on the clutches.

    • @markrskinner
      @markrskinner 8 лет назад +1

      +johnH123 A second or 2 to restart and no wear when it's not running.

    • @wildturkey5838
      @wildturkey5838 8 лет назад

      When they stop for unloading there's still lots of grain and plant material in the machine and it takes a while for it all to clear out. The header drive is all part of the threshing system so there's a lot more moving parts than just the header to stop/start each time.

    • @edwardpaisley9063
      @edwardpaisley9063 7 лет назад +2

      I understand exactly what Ksfarmdude is talking about. We ARE in America but I can't buy what I WANT I can only buy what I can AFFORD (Or somebody is dumb enough to loan me money for) An S690 costs $500,000+ and the head another $100,000+, not something we small farmers can afford. The big boy, custom harvesters, like Ksfarmdude mentioned or the big boys like the Garnett Farms can't afford old, worn or machines that can potentially break down.

    If a combine goes twice the speed as someone else, can it lose half it's harvesting effort by spilling grain on the ground? I can imagine a drunk dumbass wanting to hurry things up.

    • @wildturkey5838
      @wildturkey5838 8 лет назад +1

      If you try to travel too fast it can result in a clogged rotor/cylinder and everything stops. If you're trying a little too hard you start losing grain out the back and the sensors let you know.
      You don't put a stupid person in a half-million dollar machine (or more) when you're producing thousands of dollars of grain per hour. Profit margins are just too slim.

    Me parece desordenado a coleta com o trator !!!
    Com dados de que ,se enche o reservatório da colheitadeira ,evitará que o trator ficasse seguindo a colheitadeira!!!
    Consumindo 20 litros hora de diesel se o mesmo sistema fosse estático ,3 tratores coletando de modo mais eficiente ou seja em 10 horas trabalhadas ,reduziria no mínimo 40%no consumo de diesel ...
    Um ganho considerável...em um dia , imagine em um ano!!!

    • @wildturkey5838
      @wildturkey5838 8 лет назад +2

      How much of your crop are you willing to lose due to weather if you don't have a lot of combines?
      Also those machines are probably owned by a commercial harvester who travels across the midwest following the harvest.
      Lots of machines mean you can get the crop out of the field quickly when it's ripe.
      I grew up on a farm and we lost wheat crops to hail because we couldn't get it cut quick enough.
      I have to wonder from your names how much of a farm connection you really have.
