I watched a few video on this type of flute.
You was the best at teaching me how to get sound out of it.

Thank you! The imagining blowing the candle out under chin, gave me a whole new perspective , and a better sound. I have before had to mostly play from what I feel is my diaphragm to get a flow that doesn't breal, or squeak. When I say from the diaphragm,, I mean kinda like if your trying to blow warm air from your lungs.thanks Steve

I have a beautiful bamboo flute with a notch at one end - I can't seem to get anything but "air" sound from it, but the video was super-helpful and I won't give up trying! It is harsh against my lip (I'm a 60-year-old female) - should I try sanding/cutting the open & notched end to look like yours in this video? The soft edges look like they'd feel much better pressed against my face/lip than the corners I currently have on mine!

So if you can get your first octave that's great now tighten your lips and speed up your air flow and start from the bottom note and go up the flute depending on the notes will tell you how far up you can go for second octave and possibly 3rd

Hey Christian. Well I met butch and he showed me his. Anasazi let me tell you I couldn't get sound. Myself but Butch pushed that flute into his chin to get sound he said it was made exactly. Like the real ones found now that being said. I feel those flutes were played like the Egyptian Ney. To the side of the mouth but you will get sound in second octave so you must really try to slow your breathing down to start in the first Find me on face book.

So I'm trying to make a flute in this style. I added the slant like you have in the video. That helped, I can now get what I think is the root note but in the third octave. It's a C#6. I've tried blowing softer, making the air stream less focused, and shift it around. I'm wondering if you have any further advice on trying to get at the lower octaves. If I should maybe try and widen the notch or make it more straight across? At this point I've hollowed out and sanded down a 2 foot long and about an inch in diameter piece of elderberry.

If your inside diameter is any less than 3/4 inch, its going to overblow too easy, causing you to octave shift . If it is 3/4 or more , Id say its just a matter of time and practice. I know its a pain. I didnt play my mojave for a couple yrs and starting back again is tough. JUst practice making any note in the lower octave. then rest and repeat. I know when I try too long, I cant hardly play at all. good luck

Hi Howard. What angles do you use the back and front portion of the mouthpiece?
