AIR & Austin Pets Alive! Hoarding Case

On May 21, 2020 AIR was called to assist a local animal shelter with the care and enrichment of approximately 80 cats that were seized from a neglect and hoarding situation. The cats were living in a house that the owners had moved out of and the cats used the entire house as their litter box, living in inches of filth. AIR worked with the shelter to place all the cats, but five, who needed more time to exhibit typical cat behaviors that would eventually allow them to become thriving members of a household. Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) was able to assist and step in with their Barn Cat Program which allows the cats the opportunity to work slowly with their handlers to learn that humans aren't the enemies.
