I think it's great that you did not edit out the imperfections it allows people to see that that's where a mistake can happen and for them not to do it ....excellent video guys. thanks!
I kind of feel the opposite. I want to watch proper methods so I dont make my own mistakes. sorry, not to be negative, but we are really working on being solution orientated
@Donna Tlachac is In a virtual Studio That's great! Showing mistakes and their corrections is exactly solutions oriented: problem presented, solution offered. There are too many DIY videos that cut out so much that the viewer never sees how the project goes from A to B to C. Going straight from A to C without showing their work makes those videos worthless as a teaching tool.
We use the same brackets on our closet. Instead of pvc however, because it's so wobbly, we use metal electrical conduit. It's cheaper than pvc, a ton more rigid, and only slightly heavier. In my office, I'm using emt. In my bedroom, we use a white conduit. From the end, it looks like a flat bell. They both work beautifully.
it's so great to see the WHOLE project (even the mistakes) because, man, I would have done the exact same thing - and would have been really frustrated. Now I know! Thank you!
Great video. Love that you left all the "whoops" in. Just a note: There are great spray paints out there specifically for spraying on plastic. You might also remind folks to clean the PVC well. I then do a primer, let it dry for a day, then the final coat of paint. Doing it this way, I have never had a chip or scratch on any project made from PVC. I will always choose the path of proper prep. Saves me down the road.
I'm glad you showed us the boo boo. Most would have just edited that out & never mentioned it. This way we learn with you. Thanks for sharing & being real. It turned out great. I love how it looks
I love that you showed the error so we could learn from you. If you would have edited it out we would be wondering what we did wrong when we tried this!! I love the look, so farmhouse chic!!
Another one I love. And it was good to see the mistakes too. Thanks for not editing them out. Unfortunately, my bay windows are not at a 45 degree angle but still - I've an idea for a bed canopy frame or room divider! Possibilities are endless. Thanks again for sharing.
That was so funny. I like that you left the mistake and how to fix it in the video. We're all human, mistakes happen. I have a pile of drop cloths sitting here waiting for me to create my window treatment. I'm stamping a toile design on the "curtains" once they come out of the wash. Then I'll iron them and hang them. I'm using IOD decor stamps for anyone interested.

Zeb's basic home maintenance tips! Seriously. If I hadn't grown up with a carpenter for a father, I would never know how to do this stuff. Or, like most of my friends, it would never occur to me to do this stuff or that I could do it. Love how thorough both of you are at demystifying this stuff. On those drop clothes, can you give me more specific info? I don't want to make curtains but I do want to use them for other sewing projects. There are so many to choose from, and ordering online I don't know what to look for. I know I want cotton, but when they say "canvas" I picture something really heavy. Ergh! Can you give me some guidance on what I need? Thank you!
I have that bay wall in my kitchen. All I have is the top curtain to let the sun light in. Can you make any suggestions on my oak cabinets. They are beautifully made oak cabinets but the color is honey gold and I hate it, but I cannot make too much of a drastic change as my fiancé would have a complete meltdown as his dad built the cabinets and he just passed away last year? I want to either lighten them up or darken them up just a tad bit. I like the white wash look.
That's a hard one. Without painting them or sanding them all the way down to the wood and staining them, there isn't an easy way. A light sand and gel stain might work but I would do a test piece first because gel stain can go on pretty thick sometimes.
Hey Zeb and Jami, I know this video is a few years old, but I need to know if u your end caps you put on the pvc pipes had raised embossed printing on them rather than just smooth? I looked at HD tonight and their caps had the company name etc embossed on them...thx
Excellent! We moved into our new place last October big windows in the living nothing own them yet. These are super nice! 🌟 P.s. soaking in a gallon of bleach and , water?
What color is the kitchen paint? Love this project! Do you think the paint will rub off with the curtain rings rubbing back and forth? I want to do something like this with metal piping for a closet, to hang clothes.
My dad thinks it might rub off lol. Time will tell. Sadly, I don't know what color the wall is. The house was painted like this when we moved in and we color matched it for repairs.
Haven’t gotten bleach spots. I use a whole gallon in a washtub in my laundry room. It’s 20 gallons but I also have the drop cloths in there so I’m unsure about the ratio. I’d say you’d be safe with a 1 part bleach to 9 parts water formula.
It has not! We just took them down when we did the kitchen remodel last month and they were looking great. I think the key is to let the rust oleum dry for its recommended cure time (I think the bottle said 24 hours)
Are those little hooks really strong enough to hold up the heavy drop clothes? I've wanted to do this project but I am concerned that I would be constantly rehooking. Thanks for all the detail instructions.
So, we've had this style up on different curtains for several months with no issues of them ever falling off. That's with the kids pulling on them and opening and closing them.
@@JamiRayVintage Sorry to keep bugging you but did you cut it and leave the edges raw? Great solution to keep the length and fold it over for the ruffles! No sewing or cutting is my style lol

The problem is that there may not be enough wall space, in the corner, to handle 2 separate rods there. Depends on the amount of space and size of rods, end caps and supports. Turning the corner, as shown in the video is one way of solving that problem. The way to know, for sure, that two independent (separate) rods will work, is to actually hold them up on each wall, with brackets and end caps, to see if they have enough clearance. Some drapery rods have large, decorative, end caps, and ornate brackets. PS: I have a 3 section bay window that does NOT have enough space between the side windows and the center section.
1994abbygirl no, I have a big wash sink and I added filled it up until all the drop cloths were submerged and then added the bleach. You could use a tub if you don’t have a big sink. 👍
Ok so you soaked the drop clothes in bleach...how long? In your sink? Washing machine? And then washed them using fabric softener? I am not much of a DIYer...mainly due to lack of time. But I'm trying!
I soaked them in my big washing sink in my washroom. If you don’t have one of those a tub works great. I used a gallon of bleach and then added enough water to completely submerge them and let them sit in that overnight. Then I washed them (I didn’t add more bleach in the washer) and used fabric softener. I also dried them in the drier and made sure to get them out as soon as the cycle was done to avoid wrinkles

Gel stain is your best option without painting. You can get a nice finish with it.

Yup, bleach to get them lighter.

I forgot to ask. So many sizes.
What size is best?
There are some that are really big on Amazon.

How well did the drop cloths bleach? Did they get bright white? I'm struggling hard with it.. 😔
They bleached well. Mine never get all the way white. They just get lighter.
For the drop cloth: Do you double the width of each window to get the ruffly look? Is drop cloth longer and goes from the hooks/rings to the floor?
Drop cloth comes in all sizes, I got 6x8’ fro cloth and folded the excess over until it just touched the floor.
