Was Halo 4 Better Than I Remember?

- I hadn't played Halo 4 in its entirety in a few years, so I decided to pop it in (select it from the MCC menu) and do a full game legendary playthrough. In this video, I go over my thoughts on the game. I talk about the multiplayer a bit but this is mostly just about the campaign.
Cortana from Halo 4 was thick.
Looks much better than H5/Infinite

9:10 The Mantis is one of the few good things 343 added to the series that feels very "Halo". Halo is a series that I really don't think needs mechs, and there was a really good chance that they could have added something really dumb... like something that really didn't fit, like a Gundam styled mech. But instead, surprisingly, 343 added a mech that looks pretty grounded and adheres to quite a bit of old art style quirks Halo had, such as: UNSC equipment having a near future, industrial-military design; focus on 45 degree angles; and generally being something that you could see normal people in the future actually adopting for practical purposes.
One of the things I like about the Mantis is that is looks like at one point this thing could have been a loader of some kind (not unlike the one from Aliens, which is a massive inspiration to classic Halo). Hell, swap out the arms, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the UNSC uses these things as cargo loaders when not used for combat. It's a fairly unique design and one that doesn't go over the top. It doesn't try and add robot arms or look like a walking Pelican like the HW Cyclops (a design that fits HW's out there but inspired art style, but doesn't fit in mainline Halo).
Mantis is cool.
Mantis is life
On the research station when defending the composer a marine/security/worker says something to the tune of it being used as a loader and just refitted with armaments now that they need to defend themselves if I remember correctly
Wait till this dude finds out much of Halo is inspired by Gundam
Apparently the Mantis is based on some of the data for The Prototype from Halo Legends.
you do realize halo 4 takes like 4 years after half of africa was glassed every human colony was destroyed the entire naval and military force was wiped out and humanity being set back from a tier 3 species to a tier 1 species with the flood being on the planet as well
Midnight is good cause it’s like one of the few levels in all of Halo (minus Halo 2) that doesn’t start you with the Assault Rifle
Ngl the master chief design in halo four is underrated
I even liked it, more like a spacesuit with armor
Bungie changes chiefs armor 2..tecnicaly 3x. No one bats an eye.
343 changes it 1x everyone looses there minds
(If bungie made the h4 mc armor no one would care... #stupidity imo)
The h4 armor shoulda been a halo 5 or infinite armor set

I always thought you were a little too harsh in your previous thoughts of H4 so it's nice to see you've shown it some love. I agree that across all difficulties the ammo scarcity is really annoying since I prefer human weapons but overall I thought it was better than 343's other Halo games. Looking forward to seeing you break down Halo 5 too, despite it being the worst lol
H4's multiplayer support was really strange back in the day. I remember one forge creator from the old THFE complaining that 343 had put the BTB map he submitted into SWAT. Yes, they put the map designed for 8v8 big team battle was being used for fucking SWAT.
Halo 4’s story with Halo 5’s gameplay would’ve actually been a really good game

Having a pocket Cortana hologram would be sick. "Cortana, how can i remove this catalytic converter with the least amount of noise?"
they should have made chief look like how he did in halo 3 because that's what were continuing from. Like did Cortana make him new armor during his nap, like what.
IIRC, someone from 343 basically said "nanobots upgraded him".
dumb AF, but hey thats 343 for ya
Honestly my favorite part about Halo 4 is probably the gunplay, the guns just feel incredible to use for some reason
Del Rio: Left the Masterchief on Requiem 😊
Fleet Comm: You did what?!?!
Never in my life have I thought Id see Agalloch mentioned THIS randomly
I unironically liked halo 4 and halo 5 armor design. It felt more protective somehow and fit the art style of those games better than the original armor. I don’t think it should have been in the game because chief had no way to get it but it was rather appealing imo
I think 4 was good it just had execution issues when it came to moments of payoff. Example we needed more didact for him the be the villian and not finish him in a QTE. OR we needed to focus more in on cheif and cortana to focus on humanizing cheif and helping him finally break from being the soldier he always had to be (this man has been fighting wars as a soldier since his teens)
You forgot to mention how amazing Didact’s speech was post campaign!
Not sure if you've been told but I'd just like to say you are a great commentator. No "ummms" or "uhhhhs". Your videos are great
What I always like playing through "Shutdown" - Fighting Covenant + Promethians together; Dissloving the Hunters in 1 shot with the Incineration Cannon is so, so very satisfying.
I only beat it on Heroic, but I really loved fighting against the Prometheans. The Knights can teleport have swords and can spawn watchers, so you have to try and pick them from a distance. You can't throw grenades at them and they are guarded by the watcher's shields, so you need to take care of those first. At the same time crawlers literally come at you from all angles, trying to close in on you so you have to fight them off with close distance weapons. Your attention is always shifting between the three, which leads to great combat encounters.
All in all, the Covenant are probably still my favorite enemy, but I prefer fighting Prometheans over fighting Brutes or the Flood.
It’s definitely my favorite of the modern Halo games. The cortana story is great even if the didact was boring and forgettable. The graphics are probably the best on the 360. The mammoth level was really cool and I liked that you could pilot a mech and finally pilot a pelican (even if that wasn’t traffic interesting). But most importantly I liked that it actually had Co-op campaign.
I've never been a fan of silent protagonists. I like that they made Chief more human and gave him more depth. It wasn't a revolutionary story but it was told rather well.
I like the armor change, but I don't like how it changed while he was alone on a ship in a cryopod
The CoD thing is so spot on. Ironically, while Halo 4 cut firefight (for some reason), Modern Warfare 3 (released a year earlier) adopted their own version of firefight known as Survival. CoD learned from Halo and enhanced their game, but Halo tried to emulate and it didn't work.
Also, maybe a hot-take, Spartan Ops should have been reworked into a spin-off game like ODST. The way it was released was annoying and often felt samey. It needed the tighter experience offered by a campaign.
The ammo capacity in this game is awful. probably my least favorite part.
imo halo 4 was decent, if the gunplay was better (like 5's maybe) then i would enjoy it more, but its just meh. also..
I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN ME. BLOCKED AND REPORTED FOR SPAM
good vid bro, i enjoyed it
I agree with your take. I liked several things about the game: The Chief/Cortana stuff felt like an actual evolution of Halo. Great stuff, and probably (just speaking of 4) the best thing 343 did with the franchise, it's just a shame they can't keep a coherent overall plot together to save their life. Gameplay was good, but enemy spam was rampant and the new faction was mostly just alright to fight. I didn't like a lot of the new weapons. Everything else was 'something something didact, something something librarian' and all that managed to do was muddle up the lore/setting. My group really liked spartan ops, it was a great PVE option as we had, by this point, kinda burned out on your typical SWAT multiplayer stuff. 4 is decent. I didn't hate it. But the cracks were starting to show.
I've been playing Halo games since CE launched in 2001, and personally, I love Halo 4. I'd rate it as one of my favourite Halo campaigns. Nice to hear balance perspective for a change!
Halo 4 multiplayer was really fun but the forerunner enemies in campaign are just straight up annoying, the constant teleporting around, those little drones that revive stuff and the mass amounts of them as well. I have to say tho the cutscenes and the story isn't bad at all, I still liked Halo 4 overall, it's just not 1,2 or 3 which I'm so biased to also wrote this before watching the video and I'm glad we share some of the same thoughts
I really liked the ending of Halo 4 where Cortana used hardlight technology to give herself a physical form to wish Chief her final goodbye.
The soundtrack is amazing and I hear nothing of it and it is criminal
The campaign would've been better if the promethean weapons were more fun. Because the game is designed to make you use a ton of ammo, you'll inevitably be using the weapons that you get from Knights in many scenarios. 343 just didn't do a great job adding to Halo's armory.
I really love Halo 4 after all this time. When I played it as a kid I didn't really love the sound or art design, but I was captivated by the story and still am. I'm just a sucker for drama! Maybe weird, but I actually do like the Created Uprising story arc, I guess I just wish they had done more with it. It makes a lot of AI characters feel unsatisfying, and AI are weirdly integral to Halo's story.
I love Halo 4, the story is great with Chief and Cortanas dynamic, and ima just be honest; it's fun. That's all that matters. So many memorable moments, so much good music, I just enjoy playing it
They didn’t really make chief a new character they just kept him lore accurate to the books since 343 wanted to include more lore than the bungie trilogy did. Ever since the first book chief was a caring man that wanted to make sure he could save as many people as possible
If Halo 4 had the og art style and a good soundtrack it would have been remembered as one of the best halos ever.
I prefer halo 5 to halo 4. I somewhat had fun in halo 5 (granted the story was trash) but in halo 4 I played it cuz I felt like I had to. Master chief feels to weak, his shields are almost non existent, and the ammo scarcity is maybe my biggest problem with this game. Let me elaborate.
Halo infinite’s warship gbrakkon starts you off with the sidekick and assault rifle. I threw away the sidekick (which was a mistake) but I kept the ar. Despite there being only like 2 ammo caches and 2 assault rifles on the ground I was able to keep it to the end of the mission.
in Halo 4’s dawn I ran out of ammo on the ar every 4-5 minutes (not an exaggeration.) and there were hardly any assault rifles in the frigate.
Halo 4 is in my opinion (based on pure fun) the worst 343 have ever made.
story and gameplay aside. I remember loving the box art and playing that first mission thinking wow this game looks amazing. Halo 4 has surely aged far better than most xbox 360 games.
I think people would have been more receptive to Halo 4 if it and Infinite were swapped. Open world Halo game similar to Halo 3 in 2012 and then a COD style Halo in 2021.
Interesting, You like the 3rd level forrunner. It's my least favorite by far going to those two open spaces where you have to take 3 of those blue orbs was a pain on Legendary. And I hated the ghost run, it graphically looked like a whole different sci-fi game. But I'm glad someone liked that level.
Halo 4 had potential.... The whole dam thing had potential....
i like the idea of dealing with The Didact and all that, but the Prometheans were definitely a bit too annoying to fight, too tanky at least, you relied on finding power weapons to dispatch them faster, but those were often a luxury depending on the area you were in. i never owned Halo 4 on Xbox, so i don't know if much changed with the MCC version, but i enjoy the MP PvP of Halo 4, even if i am not super keen on all the CoD elements. i like sprinting, but i am not a big fan of the loadout system, and item call-ins could have not existed. with that said, for what exists in Action Sack and SWAT, i like Halo 4 MP a lot.
I never bought it, I played it at my step sisters place after babysitting and the multiplayer completely turned me off from getting it, especially as Reach is one of my favorite games & multiplayer experiences of all time. I miss those days.
When I did get around to the campaign I also agree that the Cortana story is a lot better than the Forerunner story, Cortana’s story was competent and logical whereas all the lore dumping about the forerunners really killed some of the mystery I like with science fiction stories
Im playing through every halo game on mcc (for nearly the first time excluding 3 4 and reach) been having a good time so far
Halo 4 is better with the catch skull on imo, getting trapped behind cover by 3 different pulse grenades with no shields is a really intense and memorable experience lol
I'll preface that Halo 4 is my childhood. I'm biased and I know it. It's kinda amazing how both you and I had the same idea at the same time to play the game again, but that is not the point. My story is: I saw Master Chief collection discounted, remembered having the time of my life on halo 4 and being curious why other people didn't liked it as much as the previous titles. So far I've played only Halo: Reach and Halo 4 (on normal difficulty, I don't play Fps a lot). There is one thing that I didn't like after comparing the two: not seeing my health bar. The second, in Reach (I don't know if it's spelled like this) in almost all checkpoints you can choose the armor skill. In Halo 4 that is pretty rare AND, to be completely honest, they are not as cool or useful. I tried leggendary: it's not really fun. It's cool that they deal more damage and I don't actually mind the abundance of enemies (it makes me feel as I was really in a military operation, alone against an army, and in normal difficulty you can take the hit so going berserk is an option, and I don't know if I like that or not) but as you said I don't like health sponges that require me to empty all of my ammo. To me it should work this way: you hit me hard but that doesn't change that I can hit you hard. It discourages going berserk (punch them untill they die, shoot if necessary) and requires to be more tactical. I think playing with some skulls activated on a lower difficulty helps. Some of them are (imo) kinda funny, like the one where some enemies just throw a disgusting amount of grenades on you. I'm not a Halo expert, I haven't played all of them (yet), so you can figure out by yourself how much weight my opinion has, but wanted to craft this terribly long comment to essentially say: my opinion of Halo 4 didn't change. I still love it despite, probably, lacking some of the things that made the previous titles better. I've covered the main points that I wanted to say
After not touching a Halo game for 6 years I recently got MCC and I'll be honnest: Halo 4 just doesn't quite cut it with nostalgia as the other games.
The way I experience it, the other games have a reason to explore all features. Usually an accuracy weapon like the BR of even just a pistol can deal with all non-shielded enemies. When such a weapon is not present, say for example the start of Exodus, the games ecourgage you to explore other weapons. Even very common weapons like the needler or plasma rifle become tempting to pick up and mess around with. Halo 2 and 3 had dual wielding as a very powerful alternative. Halo 3 ODST even removed the BR alltogether.
In Halo 4 the Forerunner weapons add nothing new to the game. The boltshot can be used as a pocket shotgun which is cool but other than that they are just another pistol, assault rifle, BR, shotgun and sniper rifle like the UNSC has, but with a more colorful coating. The covenant doesn't do itself any favors by getting rid of niche weapons like the brute shot or needle rifle. There is always a BR, DMR, carbine or light rifle around so there is no reason to every explore other weapons in this game.
Because of this Halo 4 becomes very repetitive very quickly.
Yeah composer is my favorite level in the game. I feel like every encounter is crafted with care and reminded me that 343 is capable if they can get their act together. I guess its to late now huh...
Same dude. It reminds me of the early games levels in the ships or space stions.
Sorry, but John 117 hasn’t been a faceless hero that I project myself on since 2001 when I read the Fall of Reach.
Damn I’m old.
Forever I've been saying that halo 4 would of worked as a great epilogue to 3 and even a good finale to the series
The Frog never disappoints
I'm giving you a like solely because you mentioned Agalloch.
Also if you played this on anything but a 360 you're missing at least some of the reason many people dislike this game aside from the Didact story component; The fucking framerate was atrocious. Especially the frame pacing. I remember feeling like I was suddenly a novice at FPS's again when playing H4 for the first time. Not because my aim was bad, but readability in this game is terrible, especially in gunfights vs Prometheans. It's hard to tell what 'state' their health is in. With Elites you know their shield flares up more with depletion. Brutes go Berserk, Hunters limp/berserk, etc. But here it's like, you shoot something and eventually it dies. If you can aim and hit at all because the game's juddering like mad the whole time.

Halo 4 was my first halo, so I’ve always had a place for it lol. I think it’s always been given to much hate for no reason
I personally really liked Halo 4. I basically have the same opinion you do, as it is the best of the 343 games. I've never played Halo for the multiplayer so I wouldn't know if it's bad or not. Lastly the way you kill the Diadect is satisfying at least to me. I don't think boss fights tend to go well with 1st Person Shooters (although I think Entropy : Zero 2 did its boss fights amazingly) period. Also considering the fact that he had the ability to grab Chief using some off-brand Force, it made sense to make killing him more scripted rather than gameplay oriented. You can't make a character like him have a good boss fight. To make the fight feel fair, his power would have had to have been drastically reduced. Anyway I'm on a tangent now 8/10 in my book would play again.
Even though I wasn't and still am not a huge fan of Halo 4's multiplayer, I DO really like the BTB in Halo 4. So fun.
If halo 4 didnt have the quicktime or bottons that required a small animation it would have went from a 6/10 to a 8/10 for me.
Yes. but also 4 came out while I was in college so I have strong nostalgia for it 😂
Bungie Era Halo: Humans are Forerunners.
343 Era Halo: Humans and Forerunners are Not the Same but entirely Different Species and were at War because the Flood drove "Ancient Humanity" out of their System and started to Spread on a Forerunner World.
The main thing holding me back from playing the campaign is Chief's hideously ugly "shell".
Sure the campaign wasnt as good as before but the multiplayer is whr Halo 4 shined. For 1, thats what most people were doing in every Halo game and imo thats the best way to judge its gameplay.

Alot of Halo 3's multiplayer maps felt bland and average (especially compared to Halo 2)
I was impressed with Halo 4's maps
The LMG / Saw was a nice addition to the weapon palette.
I wrote a college paper on how Halo 4's biggest sin was the fact it wasnt long enough for its plot to be fleshed out. Halo 4 is my Halo the one i grew up playing and the first game to make tear up.
ngl i don’t have many issues with the story of halo 4. to me it feels incredibly similar to the bungie games and they had to come up with new stuff to add to the lore and i think it was an incredibly hard task.
the issue of halo 4 stems from the Prometheans are the most annoying enemies from any of the games
One more thing: Custom loadouts doesn't work because it was so unbalanced. The DMR (eventually patched many months after the game dead) and Boltshot were the clear choices, also I ran Thruster (the only good alternative being Promethean Vision), Infinite Sprint, and Ammo. This allowed me to every game fight maybe 1 person for the best power weapon and then just snowball into free RNG drops. I'm also just a good Halo player in general being a 50 in Halo 3, but Halo 4 was just complete baby mode. Sometimes you can be great at something and still hate it and that was Halo 4. It was just too numbingly easy and repetitive.
Thruster? is that the one that lets you dive quickly out of danger or are you talking about the jetpack? Because yeah, jetpack is the only good thing to use.
@@stylesrj I could flex hard if halo charts still existed because I was a top 50 or 100 halo 4 player in the world. I posted my exact loadout in the previous comment for most matches and jetpack was way too slow to be competitive. If two players are sprinting towards the power weapon, ect, thruster is way more important. in a team setting sometimes i would use promethean vision if the map was like Haven because you could see everything if you controlled the middle of the map. otherwise thruster was the pick.

I liked using the jetpack in Spartan Ops because it lets me get back to where I was before being killed and finish the fight :D
@@stylesrj It's fine as a fun mechanic in campaign or spartan ops and even in multiplayer if you enjoy the play style in social modes, ect. the issue is that it was not balanced well for competitive play against thrust or promethean vision. Pretty. Much my thoughts, memorable art design, Mantis was great, First level was great. I did like the multiplayer and have a lot of fun with custom games through. Just making dumb forge map, giving every one random load outs with death penalties and letting chaos reign. I think I might of liked it more than halo 3, but may be just a sucker for all the pretty graphics and have not played halo 3 enough. Halo 2 is my favorite.
I do dislike how weak the enemy feel, I want my elites to give me a fight.
Make it new fans hate it and want more halo 3 feel, make it feel classic like infinite and they want faster sprinting and the warzone mode back.
But the cream is halo 4 being seen as good, its juts like the starwars prequels and now the damage is done people claim to like it and see its charms years gone by.
Its hard enough to guess but the inconsistent feedback is part of the problem and its not solely on 343 im afraid.

Best 343 halo. I could play multiplayer splitscreen.

That's pretty much the consensus I hear generally. People love the Chief/Cortana dynamic, but anything related to the Didact/Forerunners was just flat out awful.
The Didact apparently had all this build up from the books but in practice all he did was act like a darth vader knock off, spouts some empty platitudes about why "humans bad", then is defeated in a QTE event.

I feel my opinion is a super minorty, but i actually didnt mind Sarah Palmer's attitude.
Her purpose is the same as Del Rio's. The whole point was to show that the world had moved on from relying on the Chief and that Spartans are now mass produced. His generation has become obsolete, and it puts you as the player in the scenario of showing the "younger generation" how its done. You can only have that dynamic if there's a bit of antagonism between the chief and the new Spartans.
By the end the game, its clear that Palmer and the rest of the S4's IDOLIZE the chief as a legend. He just had to earn it for them.

You didn’t mention my favorite scene, which is the final cutscene. The conversation between chief and lasky at the end is so good.
“our duty as soldiers is to protect humanity… whatever the cost”
“You say that like soldiers and humanity are 2 different things, soldiers aren’t machines. We’re just people.”
One of the best exchanges in the whole franchise imo.
“She said that to me once… about being a machine”
I hope you're being sarcastic. That line is shit.
No shit soldiers are humans. But it is a soldiers duty to protect the race. They're literally oath sworn. It's some cry baby shit to be like 'but we're humans too!'. Fuck that.
Man you got me crying
I was going to say the same thing, this is such an absolutely powerful scene that shows so much about Chief. It also can show him as falling back into what was one of the complaints about the Spartan II's which was their machine like personalities. Cortana helped humanize him, and with her loss he started to regress back to what he was. Its probably one of the, if not THE best scene in all of Halo, and probably one of the more important scenes in video games in relation to the human and soldier aspect.
Lasky the GOAT fr
I thought originally that Cortana didn’t die but somehow uploaded herself into the planet and it allowed her to live. I loved that they showed how much she means to chief here, and looked forward to guardians… then I played guardians.
I think that is what happened. Except she was saved or downloaded into the Domain rather than Requiem.
Let's be honest we've already shown what Cortana means to us because we all suffered that level in Halo3 ... Everything after that , girl is pushing her luck 😂

Am I weird to say that I think Master chief was always a character but his silence was warranted given the context of situations.
I always felt like we split the duty of main character with him cause he makes small remarks and even jokes when we are not in control, but as soon as it is go time, it is us.
So even if he is silent for a majority of time in halo 1, and a bit in 2, we still had a shared role to play. Even ODST managed to convey this split role with us playing as the vocal team as Romeo, Dutch, Mickey, and o Gunny Buck himself. Then when it was go time, we were back to Rookie, but even he had a moment of wanting to speak but ultimately never did.
I agree, hearing Chief during gameplay and cutscenes are two different experiences. Players are supposed to fill the boots of Chief during the gameplay and then watch him as a character during the cutscenes.
I honestly had so much fun on halo 4 I was a little kid and wonder if the reason I was able to enjoy it so much was because I wasn’t jaded by years of disappointing games.

Halo 4 was my first halo game that I genuinely invested time into when I was younger, I seriously enjoyed halo 4’s campaign, multiplayer, spartan ops and especially the custom games. I thought it was an alright game, it was a really cool and fun game for a 9 year old kid to get into
Hell yeah man. Halo 4 was my first halo game I played. And then later on I played all the others and loved them all
Same. Halo 4 was my first game. But it was in the MCC. I loved the hard Sci-fi art style it had. Still love it, but I also came to love Bungie's work
You guys missed out the golden age of Halo (Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3). Here is my career multiplayer games played online. Halo (0 none), Halo 2 (10K), Halo 3 (23K), Halo 4 (1K), Halo Reach (200), Halo 5 (10K) and Halo Infinite (200). My K/Ds on multiplayer (approximately estimated)- Halo 2: 1.02 Halo 3: 1.42 Halo Reach: 1.25 Halo 4: 1.54 Halo 5: 1.87 (with 30K grenade kills) almost averaged 3 grenade kills per game. Halo Infinite: 1.43
@@Discontent24I just telling the ones who didn't play Halo 2 and 3 on multiplayer that it was the golden age of Halo during that span due to being the best Halo game series including Halo CE and the multiplayer gameplay. I wrote this so that people in the future don't have to ask. And if you want my experience and stories about those moments, well I'm willing to share it with you.
No, it wasnt good at all. Look up "halo 4 is worse than you remember" or "343 industries vs the world" they did an amazing job breaking down why this game is a joke. To anyone who had this as their first halo game I am sorry. It's kind of coping at this point with all the evidence around how it flopped.
The shot at :36 made me laugh. I'll always remember seeing the Didact's face for the first time in-game and just thinking, "who designed this sh*t?" They should have left his helmet on, like Chief
They were going for that Frankenstein aesthetic.
*Takes off glasses*
"What the fuck is this piece of shit?" 0:36
watch the terminals, they explain why he looks like that.
Vampire voldemort never gets old
They're aliens
I'm only 6 minutes in and you already did a much better job at analyzing the gameplay than 90% of people i've talked to/watched videos of.
This was the first Halo game I actually played and I loved it. Seriously, it was incredible to me. Then I played the older games and honestly, I didn't really see why Halo 4 got so much hate. I loved them all. As I got older I started to understand why people didn't like it as much, but it was still my first Halo game and I will forever cherish it.
I loved this game so much when it launched. Incredible graphics, weapons and environments. I can’t wait to play this again, as part of the Master Chief Collection, when I pick up my Series X! 👌🔥
The best thing about Halo 4 is the cover art
lol
Ready to go to work 😵💫
I’ve never understood why people love this game’s cover art so much. It’s not bad, per se, but the entire background is mostly visual noise and Chief’s armor looks off to me compared to how it looks in game. The pose is pretty cool, though
@@lúki-angit’s the pose
Cortana's new design and the cover art are the best things
No. The prometheans suck man. Theyre such bad enemies. Galaxy conquering god race that uses drum fed machine guns and pump action shotguns?
This has bugged me for years! Why the hell would a race that can teleport, use telekinesis and seemingly form matter out of thin air, need a pump action shotgun, or any guns at all for that matter? Same goes for the Phaeton (Halo 5 promethean aircraft). Why does it even exist when they can teleport etc etc? Mind numbingly lazy additions to the franchise with zero grounding or explanation...then again, that is 343's M.O.
@@tobsmonster2
Maybe they can do all those powers but they need to still visualise weapons or vehicles or at least have a framework in which to put their power cells and stuff into?
Like you could teleport long distances but it uses a lot of power to do it on a regular basis.
Or you could use telekinesis to throw projectiles into the enemy but it's easier to just put a power cell into some metal casing and use your mind to pull the trigger.
You're asking "Why do Humans have cars? Can't they just walk there?"
Then again, the guns are shooting projectiles made of "hard light" so the real question is "Why are they NOT using kinetic weapons and instead wasting energy trying to imitate them?"
I’ve heard Microsoft forced 343 to release Halo 4 early. It was apparently meant for the Xbox one. Maybe a delay could have done justice. Probably not. I still find it funny that if all the studios MS has, I think 343 might be one of the few good ones despite all the issues with their Halo’s. 😂
I don't think that's true. The enemy AI was dialed back from Reach in order to support the higher graphic fidelity, since otherwise it would've been too much for the 360. That's part of why there was a lot of extra cannon fodder. Unless they had started development for the Xbox One, but then MS made them change course part way through? Still, I doubt their intention was to have tons of enemies alongside smarter AI than what we got.
IIRC 343 pitched 4 as an Xbox one launch title but Microsoft wanted something strong for the 360 on the financial quarter that 4 ended up releasing
Turn10 Studios and Playground Games with Forza has far been their best studio so far though- their other marquee franchise has done well in comparison to Halo. Right around when Halo 5 divided its community, Forza Horizon was at its absolute peak
MS has like 30 studios, most of which are great and probably higher up the list than 343, like Obsidian, inExile, Ninja Theory, Double Fine, iD Software, Playground Games, etc. Tf you mean 343 is "one of their few good studios?" Most of the studios they own are good.
@@MikoyanGurevichMiG21oh stop kidding Forza Horizon has been mediocre at best for the past 2 games
The mantle is such a phenomenal album, what a welcome surprise mention
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Idk how I got Halo 4, but I can surely say that I’m so glad I had it back then. I played it really young, despite not knowing anything about halo lore and of any of the other halo games. I would play the campaign over and over again and it was amazing. Now I have Halo infinite and do the same thing. Maybe one day I’ll play the older Halos, but I’m so glad I had Halo 4 😊 my favorite mission that I would replay is when your in the huge mammoth and you have to take out a wraith tank and you have a sniper rifle in the mammoth and many other weapons
yea same especially split screen on the xbox 360 it was so fun
This mission is called Reclaimer, it's pretty good!
You will like them. I was young when the first 2 came out and going from an n64 to halo on the Xbox was mind-blowing. That being said, I really like the remake visuals in the master chief collection. It makes the whole series feel more connected to me.
If you like Halo 4, you've got to play the originals! I just finished playing through every Halo campaign and this is how I would rank them.
S Tier - CE, Halo 3, Halo 2
A Tier - Reach, ODST, Infinite, Halo Wars
B Tier - Halo 4, Halo Wars 2
D Tier - Halo 5
if you played any of them you'd know this is actually the most forgettable
Bro you gotta make Dead Space videos. After Halo, DS is my favorite franchise. Great video btw
At some point I'll make a DS2 Hardcore video
@@frogarchisttook him a year but he did it lol
117 + Green and Blue gotta be the two most underrated Halo OSTs
Agreed, they are amazing ost
Playing this on legendary was a mistake. Id never judge any of the other halos by the legendary play through. Enemies and ammo, along ith inconsistent check points have always been a "problem" in the other halos. Not that we shouldn't judge halo 4 as a game on its own, but obviously there is gonna be comparisons
Halo 4 was ruined by trying to appeal to a broader audience, and graphical/writing teams being obsessed with making Halo 'their Halo' by changing things for the sake of doing so. Which is only ruined by silly justifications, like Chief having nanomachines in his Mjolnir to modify it to be identical to Gen2 Mjolnir that Cortana doesn't know exist yet.
But even though Halo 4 has so many issues, I think it's a good game, which is more so praise to the Halo IP being so good that 343 couldn't screw it up instantly. Took Halo 5 for that to happen, and we all know that story.
Love your videos by the way, looking forward to the next one.
I still don't get how Master Chief was frozen in his halo 3 armour (same as halo 2 armour) and wakes up in different armour even though he should have been wearing the same armour for 3 consecutive campaigns not 2
I think it was explained as "Nanomachines, son!"
It's very interesting to see people with such different views on like the same series, when it came to multiplayer and everything Halo 4 just clicked the most for me and it was the one that I enjoyed playing the most. It's always interesting to hear someone that felt that but just with a different game in the same series
