I loved Snoopy Sports Spectacular. I'm also a huge Peanuts fan and I inherited a nice collection of the comic books. Super team games was so much fun when I was young. I bought the Power Pad specifically to play this game several years ago and it kicked my butt. It's a great concept, but I think 30 years later the Wii perfected the active video game. Stunt Kids looks cool. I was also surprised to not see Base Wars or maybe Black Bass on the list. Thanks for another fun video 🎉
I wish the Peanuts finally got a good game. Last good one was Snoooy and The Red Barron on Atari. I'd never seen Stunt Kids...nice find! I would say Caveman Games, Championship Bowling, Duck Hunt, Darts, and Chessmaster are also alternate sports games.
Arch Rivals is the only basketball I play on NES. Double Dribble and Tecmo Super NBA were "meh... this'll do" at best. They didn't have a quality 5 on 5 basketball game.
I think Caveman games plays better with a joystick than a D Pad. Check out Caveman Ugh-lympics on the C64. Crap, I noticed I'm starting to spam the comments with C64 stuff.
I wonder if Eliminator Boat Duel would qualify as an alternative sports game? Sure, its Boat Racins, which is real. But the gators, whirlpools, nuclear waste? Definitely alternative. Its one of my favorites to play with a friend.
the reason that the Comics for Charlie Brown was called Peanuts is because Charlie wasnt as much the focal point, but then they called it Charlie Brown on TV because he WAS the focal point then, as were 90% of the movies. that's at least my best guess, i never read Peanuts comic strips, i was more a Garfield kinda guy.
Also Charles Shultz originally wanted to call the comic strip "Lil Folks",but at the time there was a popular strip called "Lil Amber" To prevent confusion Charles Shultz was told to rename his strip "Peanuts"
You doing these lists expands my knowledge with NES games as I honestly only know and played Punch Out! and Jordan Vs. Bird... The Peanuts, Rollerblade Racer, Super Team Games, and Stunt Kids looks enjoyable for me and my son.
Base Wars....from the ill fated Cyber Stadium Series from Konami. (It was never a series, after Base Wars sales were lousy,Konami cancelled it after one game.)
This list really needed more Kunio-Kun (River City Ransom) games from Technos. Their sports games added a big brawler element, with a lot of comedic violence to spice up the sports. Nintendo even localized one of their soccer games, as Nintendo World Cup. They're a lot of fun if you haven't tried them. Also as an aside 1:30 - This isn't even the first time Kemco did that, swapping the licenses around. They were even more blatant with Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle. The same core game was reskinned for three different IPs.
Bug's Bunny Crazy Castle is a PERFECT example of that. I do NOT look forward to checking that out lol. I enjoyed the Kunio games, but the only one that qualified to me for this was Crash n' the Gang or whatever it's called, and I didn't really enjoy it. The CPU is INCREDIBLY mean and the controls are too complex.
I just watched Jeremy Parish's video about The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle yesterday and the rabbit hole gets even deeper and weirder with the sequels- one ended up as a Woody Woodpecker game in the US, a couple had entirely different non-licensed lead characters, and the numbering got all mixed up Final Fantasy-style when the GBA games came to the US after several of the Game Boy titles didn't. It's a wild ride!
If you buy one of those multicarts for your nes some have japanese games, which include hockey and other games with those same type characters. They're called "hot blood (hockey, etc)"
Penis was not a name created by Charles and Schultz there was a 1930s black and white short film series called the peanut gallery or something like that so when the comic was first started they called it peanuts. Unfortunately, the name stuck even though Schultz didn't like it. I think the original name he wanted to call it was good old Charlie brown. Not much better of a name if I may say so. Here's another boring fact not the first illustration by Schultz was in a 1930s edition of the Ripley's Believe it or not magazine. It had an illustration of who we know as Snoopy it was based on his dog who he had written a letter A company that illustration saying that his dog would eat nails and wood and things like that and never got a stomach ache. Apparently, they didn't have del Taco back in those days. In fact now that I mention it. Stay away from there unless you really like dysentery!
This looked like a tough video to make, but you did a great job making it interesting. Now time for the best and worst games endorsed by actual athletes. That is the gift that just keeps on giving on all the retro systems. Cheers sir
Stunt Kids looks decent - I've never seen it before. I prefer the OG One on One - Dr J vs Larry Bird. My brother and I played the snot out of it against each other on our C64 back in the day. Jordon vs Bird lacked the charm and humor of the original. I agree that Punch Out is a rhythm game. I've beat Tyson on both real hardware and emulation, can't say that I noticed much difference. I'd call California Games an alternate sports game, and it's probably my favorite.
Those boxing games are rhythm games. Not using any technique that one would know from the actual sport of boxing. SUPER RUSSIAN ROULETTE is a Homebrew zapper game basically the purpose is to kill yourself. The best part for no particular reason is that you could use two zappers. It has many clean voice samples in it. Talk about harmless fun? This is it. Try it.

Thanks Michael!
Arch Rivals was a good alternative basketball game. Roller Games would have been right at home on this list too
I actually didn't enjoy Arch Rivals haha, Roller Games I want to say was on the real sports episode, but it likely should have been on this one.
I wish the Peanuts finally got a good game. Last good one was Snoooy and The Red Barron on Atari.
I'd never seen Stunt Kids...nice find!

Me too! Camerica has some....eccentric games lmao.
Base Wars?! Caveman Games?! Arch Rivals is definitely better than the two basketball games listed.
You're really going to hate me for my worst list :P
Arch Rivals is the only basketball I play on NES. Double Dribble and Tecmo Super NBA were "meh... this'll do" at best. They didn't have a quality 5 on 5 basketball game.
Basewars was amazing. Loved that game.
I think Caveman games plays better with a joystick than a D Pad. Check out Caveman Ugh-lympics on the C64.
Crap, I noticed I'm starting to spam the comments with C64 stuff.
Here’s hoping for that Dodgeball game.
Was thinking of the SNES🙄
Dodgeball ended up on the actual sports list if I recall. I'd have to check.
Any game with Snoopy in it is a 10, and I won’t be hearing otherwise.
FACTS
I was expecting Excitebike after that other "cute" lookalike. Also what about Duck Hunt... it had clay pigeons in it!
So to me, Excitebike and Clay Pidgeon Shooting are both actual sports, so they were considered for the main sports episode :)
Super Dodgeball belongs on this list. Big, goofy fun
I don't recall if it made the real sports episode, but I do consider Dodgeball a competitive sport. I agree it's RIDICULOUSLY fun.
I wonder if Eliminator Boat Duel would qualify as an alternative sports game? Sure, its Boat Racins, which is real. But the gators, whirlpools, nuclear waste? Definitely alternative. Its one of my favorites to play with a friend.
I considered it more "racing". I know in a previous episode I had some pushback for including racing games.
@@Fortefyre Respect, my man. I'll need to find those videos to see if it's included somewhere!
No Caveman Games? Believe it or not, I put in about 100 hours in that game. I just enjoyed it a lot as a kid back then.
I hated it hahaha.
And let's not forget The Black Bass and The Blue Marlin!
Indeed! The Blue Marlin made my top 10 list for NES sports :)
Im surprised Caveman games didnt make the list.
Oh it'll make a list, just not this one lmao.
the reason that the Comics for Charlie Brown was called Peanuts is because Charlie wasnt as much the focal point, but then they called it Charlie Brown on TV because he WAS the focal point then, as were 90% of the movies. that's at least my best guess, i never read Peanuts comic strips, i was more a Garfield kinda guy.

Ohhhh makes sense.
@@Fortefyre Lil ABNER!!! The word got corrected before it was sent. The strip was called Lil Abner.
Dodgeball! Pro Wrestling!
Yes Pro Wrestling is where it’s at!
I considered them on the other list :)
You doing these lists expands my knowledge with NES games as I honestly only know and played Punch Out! and Jordan Vs. Bird... The Peanuts, Rollerblade Racer, Super Team Games, and Stunt Kids looks enjoyable for me and my son.
Glad to hear it! I love exposing people to games they likely didn't know about.
Base Wars....from the ill fated Cyber Stadium Series from Konami. (It was never a series, after Base Wars sales were lousy,Konami cancelled it after one game.)
Seems about par for the course with Konami. SNK's Super Baseball 2020 was EONS better anyway.
Great list. My fav is Dusty Diamond’s Allstar Softball
Great game!
Rollerblade Racer is exactly like PaperBoy which was a great arcade game.
I could see that!
The other Snoopy in the hat sack racing was his brother he met at a family gathering in one of the older Snoopy cartoons
Oh nice!

@@qwerty52676 Yep, hot blood tough guy is the alternate name for Kunio-Kun
Base Wars!!
Base wars kicked my ass lmfao. The fielding is ROUGH.
I had the snoopy game growing up. Played it all the time!
Nice! I actually enjoyed it for what it was.
I owned Mike Tyson's Punch Out as a kid. My friend could beat Tyson. I never could, so I gave him the game. He still has it!
I still struggle with it to this day lol.
I was hoping for california games to make this list
California Games, really any of the Epyx games kicked my ass lmao.
I had the same thought.
Bringing up Trials (aka controller breaker) was absolutely necessary 😅
You know it!
The syndicate forced the name Peanuts on him. It was inspired by the peanut gallery of the Howdy Dowdy show.
Oh that makes sense!
I always cheated using the power pad. I'd just use my heels instead of lifting my legs. The living room was shaking like crazy!
Haha!

added to the list!
I always defined ‘Alternative’ Sports game as games where all the athletes wear flannel, reek of weed, and listen to Pearl Jam… but hey, you do you
I see what you did there, and I am proud of you.
Stunt Kids looks decent - I've never seen it before.

Skate or Die!
You should do a video about color dream NES games.
added to the list!
Where is Caveman Games?
I actually don't like it lmao.
Solid video! 👍🏽
Thank you!
No, Athletic World?
Athletic world wasn't really for me lol.
Skate or die? Ring King?
Both are accurate sports, so they were on the other list :)
This is it. Try it.
Yep, I talked about it in my Zapper episode :) I've actually played it haha.
Umm basketball games are not alternative sport games
I consider them alternative if they follow rule-sets that deviate from the official form.
