I bougt this albumn in 1981. Jump forward 30 years or so and I saw Pat at Michigan State University. He was doing the "Orchestrion" show. He started to play a medley of songs, and he cut into Unity Villiage from the Bright Size Life album. I clapped (the only one!) and when he finished the medley, he commented, "Well, I'm glad someone bought that album!"
I remember going into a a record store in Clearwater, FL about 1981. My buddy was really into Pat, and I talked to the guy up front and told him that I wanted something by Pat. He recommended I buy Bright Size Life....because it had Jaco on it. Nuff sed!
I kept this one, together with all other Pat Metheny records that I bought, in my collection of most valuable records, that I will not give away. This includes Pink Floyd, Genesis, Frank Zappa, Weather Report, Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis and the likes.
Jaco and Pat together made 3:48 a wonderful combination. I wish they had recorded more together.
The sales of this iconic album..did not do well..but over time it made waves in the musical community so much it is now in the Smithsonian Institute.
The guitar and bass tones on this album are exceptional.
