Well.... I don't have the same view. Ryan have a broken car and doesn't seems to have the budget to go see the mechanics for repairs. What's more important? Repair your car you use each day, buy something like this skeleton who is falling apart? Or, finish and respect your engagement you have done to a sincere friend who gave you an access to an appartement? What is more urgent? Make your priorities. For me it's simple.
@@ClaraSunshine Ryan has purchased a house, which is an investment for the future, he has no set time limit in which to finish it, so if it takes 2 or 3 + years it does not matter. Billy has benefitted from the work Ryan has already done in the flat, he is no hurry to get them done as he is not renting them out at all, so all the work Ryan has done so far is work Billy does not have to do himself. I am sure Billy is thrilled that his best mate has got his foot on the property ladder. As to the car, it is running and he is happy with it, and has enough friends and relatives that can help out with repairs etc.
Ryan, there is always that one or two who are so unhappy with their own life that they can’t stand to see others being in a satisfying life. Big hug….. just be yourself!
I do not think you're crazy. It's exciting and interesting. Bravo to you for taking the risk and bringing us along for the ride. When I bought my first house, my father took me aside to talk to me about the huge risk I was taking - I was buying a big old house in terrible condition from top to bottom. But I was young and excited, and it all worked out. I worked on the house for 10 years and sold it for 340% more than I bought it.
@@RestorationDream lol but when you pay rent on a place with leaky roof, collapsed pipes and big holes in the walls and fixing that will only get an increase in rent, I’d rather live with issues for awhile than do nothing and live like that forever.
Ryan, I'm an Interior Designer in the states and stumbled upon your channel, specifically the house renovation, and after watching this particular video, I've felt compelled to reach out and to say "Bravo"! Not only are you witty and quite charming to watch, but I am greatly looking forward to following you on this journey... I do see I'm about 2 months late to when this was posted- but better late than never. Thank you for the entertaining content & for sharing this exciting, and sometimes unsettling, time with us.
Ryan, I live in the USA (California). Love your videos and please don’t let the TROLLS get you down. This is what I say to them--Don’t you have anything nice to say then if you don’t, say ANYTHING. STOP. I love watching Ryan’s videos.
What I admire about Ryan is his sense of adventure. Civilization was built by people who weren't afraid to tackle any job, who took risks and weren't afraid of their own shadows! Ryan is just such a man, with a sense of humor too! Keep on cracking on Ryan!
Ryan you are not crazy for purchasing this house. You are surrounded by family and friends like yourself who appreciates the history of buildings and the passion to save them. Good for you!❤
Ryan , don't stress the haters. You can't please everyone, like you said if you don't like the videos don't watch them ! I for one enjoy them and will continue to watch them as long as you post them.
People who have different point of view are not "haters''. They express others ideas, that's all. Of course, people have to stay polite. If Ryan can't read others views, I don't know why he is doing these videos, ask us suggestions and read our comments.
@@ClaraSunshinePeople who posit their opinions with sanctimony are not just expressing different ideas, they're elevating themselves above others, i.e. putting others down, and that's hateful.
@@ClaraSunshine It's not my point of view, it's a fact. A direct observation of what you wrote in the other post. To quote, "Or, finish and respect your engagement you have done to a sincere friend who gave you an access to an appartement? What is more urgent? Make your priorities. For me it's simple." Pure sanctimonious drivel. At least own it if you're going to write it. Calling out bad behavior is not bad behavior.
Good for you! Call people out for their rudeness and stupidity. Your videos are great and don't need to be exactly like everyone else's. Honestly, I really respect you for being yourself and trying things out - with your videos and with buying a place to renovate. Most people wouldn't be brave enough to tackle a house needing just a bit of scrubbing and paint. You've taken on a very big project, and I look forward to seeing what you do with it.
$19,000 is a bargain for a property with that much character. You do not have to give anyone explanations for your decision. Do not even spend one second of thought on the naysayers and Negative Nellys. Enjoying following your journey. Look forward to seeing this beauty have a new lease on life.
I enjoy watching you renovate your $15K house in Rural France as a novice renovator on a tight budget. I think you are brave, creative, and cleverly amusing. Good job. I look forward to its successful completion.
You know Ryan the whole thing is YOU own the house lock stock and barrel. Can those others say they do? They are quick to pass judgement but never honestly think about their own situations. I would be proud to own a house and be able to fix it up as I wanted to. It is your dream and you are making it happen. Have a great time with it, make it yours all the way down through the basement. Have a great day
I wish I owned my own place but I certainly don't begrudge anyone who owns theirs. Also I'd love to own a motorhome so I could visit the European mainland.
Ryan, you’re doing something I’ve always wished I could do , and you’re doing it alone. I look forward to seeing your videos and imagining how lovely and cozy your house will be when you’re done. Bully for you!
I hope the majority of us who follow you are here not because we want to watch another renovation video but because we enjoy you. I like your talking point like your enthusiasm about your property. Obviously it’s going to take you longer and you might not get huge amounts accomplished in one video but who cares. That’s how it goes when you are working on your own and have never really done this work before. So who cares about the negative people let them go watch something else. Just keep on being real and we’ll keep watching.
This is the most realistic renovation on the internet. You don't have sponsors or a crew of professionals helping you. You are a 1 man army, and it takes time and patience . I see beauty and potential. CRACK ON!!!
Another thing to bear in mind is that you intend to do much of the work yourself. That will vastly reduce the cost of the upgrades. I think you are doing very well. Thank you for the video!
Speaking as a person that actually bought an old home & fixed it up, ( took me 13 years), with no financial help from anyone, most people don't understand the joy of seeing hard work come to fruition. I was a single mother at the time, and never asked for help from anyone. Keep up the good work. When it is finished, you will be so happy & proud of all of your accomplishments. The other folks who criticized you, probably are the type that have unlimited funds, & could just pay someone else to do it for them.
I live in Canada and the prices for real estate are so high, every property in France is a bargain. I think your choice was spot on. Never justify your self to anyone remember this channel is your content. I see many channels trying to appease their audience which I believe is a mistake. We who are fans watch your content because of you and your ideas. You are unique, please don’t change a thing, unless you want to. Keep up the great work!
Ryan, I am looking forward to you really tucking into this project and making this house amazing. Buying a cheap house and fixing it up is a great way to build wealth! Keep it up! We will keep watching!
It is always amazing to me to hear the Vlogs getting negative comments. Don't watch if you don't like it and move on. You are doing great Ryan and I look forward to seeing the journey!
Sorry, but people CAN watch and be critical or give honest opinions at the same time, as long as they are respectful. Who made you the Gatekeeper of his youtube channel, to decide who can post and what type of comments? Telling people to not watch is counter productive, as he receives his ONLY income based on youtube views. I think shunning watchers may be the wrong way to go forwards. Perhaps some time and to look critically AT THE COMMENTS first, instead of assuming everyone that is less than 100 percent positive is automatically a troll or hater??
Ryan, it is your house, it is your project, don’t worry about others saying, you are a lovely, funny and very kind. And respect for this project, your first big project and every step your are learning, good to see, just like Dan, how are restore a chateau on his own, remember he did started small, and restored a farm house..and you started at the convent, and understand why you are now started for your own, this is your future… And Ryan you are amazing to even answer some of those idiot questions. I wouldn’t, respect. Just stay being you, we adore you..
I wanted to say the only time of late I’ve seen Ryan ask for financial support, it’s not for himself but to help the Dear Moon’s with their charity for the Legacy of Legends! Ryan you’re an absolute great human! I love your quirky humor! Keep being you Please
@@edie1011 He does make money from ads, so youtube is kind of his job. He used to be a web designer, and he still does it on the side, for family and friends' businesses. Making daily videos, or as often as possible, is how he funds the renovations.
Ryan I am so proud of you. Please just ignore these jealous moaning minis, they really aren't worth your time or energy. Your true fans will be behind you 100%. you have bought a house, yes it needs renovating but you bought it. These negative people just can't believe you have a house, you are now on the property ladder and have NO mortgage, so once the property is renovated and if and when you decide to sell it you wiill be able to buy a property with a garden if you desire one. Having no mortgage is such a great feeling too. I bought my first house without a mortgage thanks to the help of my late mum. Keep up the hard work. X
When God makes us, he asks no one for advice. Especially not ignorants. We watch because we like to see what you're up to. This is your agenda, your house and your life, you do you. That's what we like.🥰
I bought my first house for $19,500 US, and it was also dilapidated. It was originally constructed in 1937. I was raised up to do things myself, so I undertook an 8 year renovation. I paid for supplies as I had the funds. In the end, I did not make the total cost returns. That really didn't matter in the end as I learned valuable lessons along the way. My 3rd home was also a dilapidated foreclosure house 17 years ago, but today, I have turned it into a valuable showplace that anyone would love to own. You keep doing what you do, and the knowledge and skills you learn will follow you forever.
Ryan, you are genuine, honest, silly, loving, kind, etc. I feel sorry for the haters, they must not have much experience with what integrity looks like.❤
Ryan, it's one of your goals/dreams accomplished to own your own home. Congratulations! There will always be negative people (magnified in number by social media). There are many more who will cheer you on. We will enjoy and feel pride with each project finished. You are brave to put yourself out there. Crack on.
Ryan, no matter what, you have a lot of us who don't care if you "just" talk!! You always make me smile❤ sure the house needs a lot of work, but you don't have to finish next week!! You have plenty of time, you're young, smart and have a lot of great friends who know a thing or two about renovating.
I'm on my fifth old house restoration. The worst one was much worse than yours. People have called me crazy for most of my life, but making those houses good for another century is my love and my legacy. Seventy and still going, but more slowly. 😂
Ryan you are so patient with the stupid, rude and nasty comments. You can turn your property into a cosy home that suits your lifestyle. Some people mistake kindness for stupidity Cheers for now.🌻
"It is not about the destination, it is about the journey". I love that state of mind! Wishing you the best in renovating that town house, it can only make that village of ours (I am French) more beautifull.
Keep up the good work Ryan. Rome wasn’t built in a day you have achieved home ownership now you’ll achieve home rebuild and learn skills along the way. Most of us are here to support not to knock you down. Keep it up.
Maybe a wine cellar in the basement with the window trap door ! Good for you to see the value of the property my first home was a mobile home 40 ft long 12 foot wide paid cash for the home no mortgage but my mother financed the renovations and paid a monthly payment plus interest to my mom made almost thirty thousand when I sold came out with 28 thousand cash in hand ! Gave a good down payment on a small bungalow a year later and still in our bungalow and we have double renovated upstairs now working on the basment since my husband passed away in 2020 ! So Iam now 69 been in this house for 23 Years and so happy we chose this easy home to look after now a senior widow and that was thought process when Joe and I purchased this home mortgage free as of 2013 best thing ever ! For me ! Thanks for sharing Ryan good start !
Thanks for calling out the trolls Ryan, they’re everywhere. If you offer an honest opinion with no intention of offending someone, you will often get trolled as you know. You’re a good man Ryan and we love your videos no matter what you film.
I see NO trolls or haters, simply people being critical of the purchase, based on his lack of renovation skills and money. He relies ONLY on youtube to fund this renovation. I would rather get an honest comment, than false hope comments.
@@kevintombthe financial side is no one’s business tho. Billy relies heavily on RUclips, Stephenie does and Dan as well. Nothing wrong with that. It’s all in the way people comment as well. The trolls comment to make themselves feel superior and just because they can behind their computer. It’s easy to separate them from people who are genuinely curious or concerned. At the end of the day it’s his money, his decisions and his mistakes to make. I believe the majority of us are rooting for him and wishing him success.
Take your time renovating, enjoy each part of the journey. You found a house that suits you. You have a lot of work to do to make it habitable but you will get there. Keep talking to the camera and keep being you. Xx
One for the algorithm…. 😁 Even though there isn’t any garden space, the house gives you the square meters for a really nice townhouse/condo style of living (without the hassle of a condo association 😂). Good move Ryan. A very nice home base.
Your honesty was shocking but also refreshing. Actually calling out the people who just want to judge, criticise, and belittle when they are not embarking on any adventure themselves. Seems that it's their form of entertainment. Thank you for putting your life on show and sharing.
Ryan, I can't lie. I've been worried about you in the past. I'm older and like a father with his son, I've wanted to see you succeed and to take a "bug step." I'm proud of you, and I'm very excited for your future. Best of luck and Blessings!
I think you made a wise decision to buy that house. You are in the rare position of not having to be in a hurry to create a livable home and to not need funding. If it takes a while to renovate, but you are paying for it along the way and end up with no or very little additional debt it would be so worth it! What an adventure!
Hi Ryan! OG viewer here. With you, it has always been about the journey, and it has been a joyous one. You spread good feeling simply by being you. Folks get to share in your goofiness from all over the world, and with the past few years the world has had (and that I personally have had, and turned to your videos during) you are doing an actual service to humanity, just by being you.
I think you just encapsulated the value that Ryan brings by "talking to the camera." Sometimes in the past of media (TV, movies), certain people have been a success just because of who they are, - there's that certain engaging thing about them, and I think Ryan has that, whether he knew it to start with or not. I was an OG viewer of Doing It Ourselves and The Chateau Diaries, that's where I first saw Ryan. When he launched his own channel, I would watch, and when I realized that I kept clicking on his channel, I finally subscribed. I used to watch a whole string of related channels, but now I'm busier than I was or something has turned me off to those other channels, so now Ryan's channel and 3 others are the only ones I'm apt to watch. I just don't have time to fit them all in anymore without my own house falling down around my ears. Watching Ryan is like keeping in touch with your brother, son or nephew, who has a personality that elicits fond feelings.
@@NewEscapade I started off with those same two channels, with Stephanie's being first, and then going looking to see if Michael had one. Nowadays, for me, it's just Billy, Michael, and Ryan.....with a little Phil on the side sometimes. Besides the real estate videos, which are technically "talking to the camera", anything that has Ryan being himself, no matter what it is, I'm on board for.
Nice answers, Ryan. As many subscribers, I will be very glad to see every step forward in the improvement of your house. Go ahead. Plan carefully every work. My best wishes for you.
I love your turning the stupid comments into a real laugh for those of us that truly enjoy sharing your journey! You are a fun, delightful fellow and I for one will continue to enjoy following you on your journey of renovation and just plain living. Keep o having fun and doing a great job with your home.
I like that you talk to the camera. Laughed out loud when you went down the stairs and yelled back to the camera ‘are you coming?!’ Also love how some videos are presented like short films. Very creative. Ignore the haters!
Well, you confirmed my math. You bought it for 15K, selling price when done up may be 120-150K, so that leaves you about 100K for renovation. Also considering the roof is in good condition. I expect 120-150K for a midsize house in the middle of town is quite reasonable. And when done it will be a house with a lot of character. Just look at that old lantern on the corner of the house. That is a *MUST RESTORE* feature! Imagine the look of it when it is burning once more. Mysterious wisps of fog swirling around it. Very Vidocq! As for the tunnel, a coal shute seems unlikely to me because impractical. Also the foundation of the house, and also parts of the walls, seem more like 18th century or even earlier,. Like I suggested before, you might do some digging in the town archives. Could be interesting.
@@ajones8699 I think you are seriously underestimating its worth. It has a great architectural presence, in the middle of town, decent size. No. 120K is quite reasonable.
Good on you Ryan. Don't change a thing, you are a breathe of fresh air on You Tube. Your honesty is a credit to you. I love watching your channel. Merry Christmas to you and your family. X
Ryan, I’m loving your program. I’m an inveterate francophile and old house restoration addict. Also, a big fan of dry British humor, aka Monty Pythons so keep it up. Great fun.
I’ve built and remolded and gutted houses . This is a gem . Paint alone is going make it great . Can’t wait to watch what you do . Merry Christmas and God bless 🙏🏻❤️🎄
Who ever suggested the idea about making the trap door transparent and lighting it up from underneath is a genius. That could definitely make for a really cool feature that you certainly don't see too often. I'm looking forward to see what you do with the place.
In a old colonial house here in Richmond Tasmania, a new business when doing renos, found old boots, tools and drinking implements under the floorboards. They left all insitu and perspexed over that section. It is fascinating to see 👌🤗🇦🇺
It's only when you own a property that you discover what kind of property owner you are. You also become very excited about other people's projects because you understand the fundamental change of lifestyle. Ryan takes pleasure in renovating and talking about it, I enjoy watching his progress. I just hope he's been watching escape to rural France to see what he may need to do and look for to replace his floors.
As I watch this you are standing in a home that you own with a roof over your head a beautiful staircase and you're young and healthy! Everything else can be fixed and I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do!!
Smart words to live by “I’m doing me” There are definitely people out there who hide behind their keyboard and feel it gives them the right to say whatever pops into their pea brains. Better to ignore them and focus on the positives. I’ve noticed how happy you seem too, that’s what matters and I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with your house ❤🇨🇦
Thank you for replying the questions we had! Particularly the garden information! If there is land behind it, and you don't own it, maybe you can have a nice patio on the second floor that you can sit outside looking at the view. It would be priceless and enjoy nature! Home ownership isn't for the faint of heart but with the odds that stacked against you, you persevere and got to the first step, was to buy the house. Now those renovations that you did and will do, are your own goals. One bite at a time! I hope you will do more Q and A's, even if you can do it once a week if you don't have much of a content on your renovation.
He has no windows in that side of the house to build a balcony onto! There might be objections if he tries to put in a window on the back of the house from the neighbours.
I don't know what permission he would need from the town, but if he could, later, it might be nice to put a flat roof on the shorter part, steel beams to support it well, a very slight slope to the roof for drainage, maybe into a rain barrel the neighbors (who sold him the place) could use for their garden. A flat roof would allow for a very nice patio, that, with a couple of carved, pierced, wooden, folding screens, could even be used as a sleeping porch on hot summer nights.
Ryan, just found your renovations today! Wow! I am so motivated by this! I’m learning so much by watching you and the guys. Way to go! Thanks for sharing this!
I am so happy you are branching out and doing something that is challenging. Also I like your quirkiness and how you talk. It adds enthusiasm and entertainment to your videos. Keep being you!
Sweet Ryan! Don't worry about the naysayers. I think it's commendable how you are able to jump from project to project and maintain a sense of humor. All the work you put in at Billy's apartment/convent might appear wasted but you gained knowledge and experience. And those skills will be used now on your very own house! Baby steps are sometimes seen as "lazy" or "dithering" but you don't want to rush in and ruin something valuable or worse yet, hurt yourself. I'm here to cheer you on and keep enjoying your content! The story behind the house and garden was fascinating. Personally I hate gardening so that would be a plus for me! LOL Stay cool! 😘💚
What’s wrong with people eh Ryan? Some people just are nasty humans and spend their days being critical. You make me laugh so I like watching your videos. I just retired this year, but spend 1/2 the week looking after my beautiful grandchildren, cooking, cleaning, gardening and watching your Channel, Billy’s, Sadie’s, the Moons, Phil’s, Ed’s, Stephanie’s, Sean’s and a couple of others gives me great joy. Keep it coming Dear Boy
Ryan, you are just Ryan and that's how you will always be. There are those armchair critics who will criticize anyone and everything because they have never done anything like it in their lives. But as for the house, it's got more potential than the critics think. Ignore all the negatives and always think and stay positive. Remember, To always look on the bright side of life As a thought, set yourself a rough timeline and you have to keep to it. We have a project going a the timeline is 5 years although we are 8 years plus into the project, it is still a 5 year project in our mind.
People can be really thoughtless with their comments! Grrrr!!! Enjoy your journey Ryan. The home needs work yes, however viewing it as an adventure will make the process enjoyable. I’ve loved every renovation I’ve done and all posed challenges, wins, and failures and I grew through it all. You will too! Time will not be wasted, enjoy the journey.
Good for you. When we were young we looked at what we'd pay the banks to buy a house and decided it was too much. So we built an adobe house, took 2 years, lovely place. So many people told us what a bad idea it was. That was 50 years ago. We've never had a mortgage. You'll get there, and it will be a great project.
I'm along for the ride, Ryan! You've become one of my few favorite people/channel to watch! I love your attitude, humor and straightforwardness! Congrats on becoming a landowner!
What a great video! I love the Q&A! Getting answers to comments, suggestions, and questions is an awesome way to communicate with us viewers! Now, as a motherly person, I am compelled to repeat "Haters will always hate." After 71 years of life and 3 sons, I have come to the conclusion that the best way to drive those haters crazy is to ignore them. As much as you can anyway! Personally, I really enjoy your droll sense of humor! And, finally, have you thought about making part of your basement a wine cellar? You ARE in France, you know! 😅
Thanks for this Q and A Ryan, it’s nice understanding your thought process of purchasing this property. I think this place can be just the ticket for you, yes, it’s going to be work, to be sure. But I have faith that you are up to the challenge. You also have friends who can advise you on the steps to take. Ignore those who don’t give you respect. We believe in you!
Happy Sunday, Ryan! Such a nice surprise to see you today. Glad for the info about the house! Excited to see how your plans go! Love an old mum in Southern California, USA.
I think your home purchase is wonderful! You have a vision and I applaude you for. No garden, no problem perfect for a batchelor, like you said " lock up and go".
I have really enjoyed watching your renovations and noticing how you have changed and grown along with your house renovations. Great job Ryan. One Brick At A time!
That was such a great video Ryan I loved it. I think those negative comments are people who want to push your buttons and you should just ignore them. You are going to have a lot of good days and bad days doing up this little house you bought but in the end I'm sure you'll be happy with the outcome as it's all hard work you have accomplished.
You are doing great! I would love to be there helping to sweep up the dirt ,, to paint ,,, to make your tea!!! I am 73 so I would just be in your way,, love what you are doing. Saving this old home,,, it will be beautiful when you are finish. I will be watching!!!😊
Ryan, having watched you for a long while now I really appreciate you doing things your own way all the while helping out your friends eg Billy’s organ move and rebuild. Owning a house freehold doesn’t come for most of us until much later so well done, you can put all the interest you’d be paying the bank into your renovations and with your time still come out well ahead. Love the idea of the transparent floor and a few lights in the basement , very cool “point of difference”. As for the channel knockers I find the majority don’t have their own channel, what are they afraid of ?😀 Anyway keep doing what you are doing , given time you’ll have a very cool little pad there , here in NZ in Auckland you couldn’t buy a garage for what you paid for the whole house prices here are insane.
Ryan you are doing a great job. Not many can see you are working through your own mental and emotional issues (you hide it fairly well) you have brought us into your world and it gives me a break from mine. For that I'm grateful. Keep up the awesome work. They see your videos but never take into account the time effort and energy that goes into creating them. You are seen and appreciated. ❤
Interesting as always! So much potential in your house which will increase in value as you reno it and completed. What an exciting journey to watch! Stay true to yourself and video style, I find it rather entertaining/enjoyable.
Hi, Ryan, from the state of Oregon, USA! I’m watching your progress periodically and I’m envious that you are tackling this project. I’m 77years old, and I missed the boat when it comes to salvaging an old treasure. I’ve always wanted to do something like that. But I got busy with life…got married 50+ years ago, having 3 kids, going to college, getting a degree, getting a job, blah, blah, blah. Now I’m getting enjoyment out of watching you, the Moons, and the Petherick Convent project. You all have been awesome. You’ll not get criticism from me 😊 Keep your chin up, young man! You are amazing. ❤
15,000 for a house is a drop in the bucket and a great way to learn how to rehab a property. Flip the house and do it over and over. Not everyone is in the position to buy chateaus.. keep going forward Ryan. 🇨🇦
I think you are incredibly brave to take on such a project and do most of the heavy work yourself! I hope you won't ever get affected by the negative comments of the jealous ppl for not finding such a great bargain themselves!
Questions for your next Q&A: Is that a war memorial there in the public car park directly in front of your house? If so, which war? I am curious about it. You've got a bit of history practically right outside your door. Also, when are you planning on giving us a tour of the village? You mentioned you were planning to do so in one of your latest videos and I would really love to see it when you get the chance. It might make a good Sunday video some time in the very near future (can you tell I am a dreadfully impatient person? Only joking, do it in your own sweet time.).😝😂Edit: I forgot to say, I love your content. You're doing a fabulous job, Ryan.
I love history and hope Ryan can sit down and tell a story about the house, its beginnings, who bought it, build it and what was their trade. I was assuming it was either a bar or an inn at the beginning due to its narrowness and the angle of the house and the street.
How about a garage or or carport balcony combination? Kind of comes down to get permission and the main living area space. It would make the house more saleable to a family with 3 bedrooms and parking.@@pattysands564
Maybe a best of both worlds, turn it into a sunroom, with a traditional tile floor and a little iron table and chairs and a few low care plants. Pay a trustworthy neighbor a little to water them and take in your letters when you're traveling.
I just LOVE how you call people out, brilliant! Only just found you so browsing through bits now! Sadly we had to sell our little house in the Vendee 2 years ago. We loved it for 20 years. You will get there..just have a great time at every stage!
Even if you can’t do it all yourself don’t be afraid to get professional help. Especially there are some technical problems to sort out. We know you can do it 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi Ryan, your house has so much potential. Take your time with the renovation. My boyfd has taken 10 years with his. You will make a wonderful home and learn so many new skills to take to your next house like your dad and uncle are both good at Diy! 😊
1. Plan layout carefully. 2. Check and treat wood 3. Re-wire the electrics. 4. Insulate - look for grants. Not sure which department your house is but my guess is once renovated, about €80K - watch those pennies!
I’m enjoying watching this renovation. You’re living my dream because I have also shopped the homes on the internet and dreamed of having a home in France. Your videos give me a glimpse of the challenge! Keep on keeping on.
Hello Ryan! First and foremost, congratulations on your purchase of this house! I am curious if you have or know the history of the house? How old is it, was the ground floor originally a store and what was the surrounding area like when it was first built? I love history and look forward to seeing what you discover as you continue to demo and rebuild.
A couple of your comments actually made me laugh. Anyway, I got interested in your videos because of this house. It looks quite a lot like one I was considering buying that also needs a huge amount of work, including the roof, plumbing, wiring, water, the whole works. It was considerably larger, and had a garden and garage, but when I looked into what it'd cost to redo, even with me doing what I can do myself, it just didn't work out. I wish it did in a way, because I loved everything about it and could imagine making it into something special. But, no money for that is no money for that. All the best on your work, and I look forward to seeing what you do. And congratulations on meeting that goal of owning a house! That truly is impressive.
Trolls gotta troll, Ryan! So happy to stumble over your videos. You're a ray of sunshine, I love your energy and enthusiasm. Keep on doing you and ignore those who have nothing better to do than whinge - after all, who's making them watch eh? The music is fantastic and big kudos for whoever wrote/played/produced it xx
It’s a cool building, who cares what others think, it’s not their house. I’m here to see it transformed into something beautiful. You go Ryan!
My feelings as well.
I love the building and I definitely would have purchased it if I were in the same situation.
I agree!!
Exactly what happened with me. It was a mess but so was everywhere else I paid rent on lol. I sold at a huge profit.
My dad said invest in the bricks, the rest will come later.
That is very inspiring, as I sit here needing new plumbing, open walls and a new roof. Hahaha. But I love it nonetheless.
@@RestorationDream lol but when you pay rent on a place with leaky roof, collapsed pipes and big holes in the walls and fixing that will only get an increase in rent, I’d rather live with issues for awhile than do nothing and live like that forever.
Chuck it in the same bin as “no matter what a guy does for his personal enjoyment and/or edification, it’ll be criticized.”
I don’t see how a viewer can call a content creator lazy when the viewer is just sitting around watching videos!
Daaaaaa
Heh heh ❤
What I admire about Ryan is his sense of adventure. Civilization was built by people who weren't afraid to tackle any job, who took risks and weren't afraid of their own shadows! Ryan is just such a man, with a sense of humor too! Keep on cracking on Ryan!
Ryan, you can't please everyone. Keep being you.
That certainly is the truth. I can imagine the bad comments would hurt my feelings, too.
Yes me too! I am always happy when you post a new video !
@@BernardDauphinais it's your point of view. Now, by sending me that that message who are you placing yourself? Explore that.
I would love to see a ‘day in the life of’ video showing you setting up the cameras, talking to us, renovating, filming, driving etc.
"Not about the destination, it's about the journey" Ryan that says it all! Good Luck in your new home.
Have a great day
Totally agree , I also find that people who criticise somebody’s youtube channel don’t usually have one of their own 😀
I wish I owned my own place but I certainly don't begrudge anyone who owns theirs.
I do too live in 🇨🇦 not a chance in Hell alot of ppl can afford a house for many yrs!!
And respect for this project, your first big project and every step your are learning, good to see, just like Dan, how are restore a chateau on his own, remember he did started small, and restored a farm house..and you started at the convent, and understand why you are now started for your own, this is your future…
And Ryan you are amazing to even answer some of those idiot questions.
He had a Ko-Fi a few years back, but he never pointed anyone to it, really. Also I bought both of the e-books he wrote.
And I hope you have a financial benefit for your content on Utube. I don’t know how these things work. But you do deserve it. !!!

Decapitated … or dilapidated? 😳😂❤️

Some people mistake kindness for stupidity
Cheers for now.🌻
"It is not about the destination, it is about the journey".
I appreciate you're not wanting donations; I subscribed to watch a fascinating video of your journey of restoring an old house.
The house will be fantastic once renovated.
I'm older and like a father with his son, I've wanted to see you succeed and to take a "bug step."
I'm proud of you, and I'm very excited for your future.
I like that you talk to the camera. Laughed out loud when you went down the stairs and yelled back to the camera ‘are you coming?!’ Also love how some videos are presented like short films. Very creative. Ignore the haters!
You can do this Ryan. Don’t worry about what people say.
I’m honestly looking forward to see how every room turns out. Love your old home❤ and you’re doing great!

Who ever suggested the idea about making the trap door transparent and lighting it up from underneath is a genius. That could definitely make for a really cool feature that you certainly don't see too often. I'm looking forward to see what you do with the place.
Pub near me (an old mill) has the workings in the bar floor under glass.
Thank you😊😊
In a old colonial house here in Richmond Tasmania, a new business when doing renos, found old boots, tools and drinking implements under the floorboards. They left all insitu and perspexed over that section. It is fascinating to see 👌🤗🇦🇺
The transparent trap door will bring light into the cellar, very nice.
Smart words to live by “I’m doing me”
There are definitely people out there who hide behind their keyboard and feel it gives them the right to say whatever pops into their pea brains.
Maybe even just a Juliet balcony ❤

Thanks for sharing this!
I am so happy you are branching out and doing something that is challenging. Also I like your quirkiness and how you talk. It adds enthusiasm and entertainment to your videos. Keep being you!
It's very nice to see a decaying structure become a beautiful home again. Bravo!!!

Ryan, you are just Ryan and that's how you will always be.
There are those armchair critics who will criticize anyone and everything because they have never done anything like it in their lives.
But as for the house, it's got more potential than the critics think. Ignore all the negatives and always think and stay positive.

In Oz, probably couldn't even buy a single carpark space in a cbd for that 😅😅
Ryan you are doing a great job.

💕🇨🇦💕
Flipping is not very profitable in France as the tax implications are very high.
Nothing crazy about becoming a homeowner. It can only appreciate in value. Win win. Living in France is a dream for many. Well done Ryan.
I'd really consider removing the annex kitchen area depending on the space of the rooms. That space could be a patio/ low effort garden.
I was thinking the same thing
How about a garage or or carport balcony combination? Kind of comes down to get permission and the main living area space. It would make the house more saleable to a family with 3 bedrooms and parking.@@pattysands564
It's the second entrance to the tunnel basement.
I think the house is too small to do that, plus he does not want a garden.
2. Check and treat wood
3. Re-wire the electrics.
4. Insulate - look for grants.
Not sure which department your house is but my guess is once renovated, about €80K - watch those pennies!
Grants can be tricky in that then government there usually butts in a lot more than normal. Can make it more costly in the end.
@@stephjezo6470 . Agreed, lots of hoops to jump through, including residency and tax status.
Good call for the grants. There are usually decent ones for windows, roof insulation, and solar panels on the roof.
Phillip.
I’m enjoying watching this renovation. You’re living my dream because I have also shopped the homes on the internet and dreamed of having a home in France. Your videos give me a glimpse of the challenge! Keep on keeping on.
Ryan I think you have done extremely well in purchasing the house. Too much potential and promise to pass up. You got this!! ❤
