I’ve had quite a few large breed dogs. Doberman, German, Shepherd, malamute, and several Drahthaars (German wire hair pointers) None of those dogs were as smart as my standard poodle. He was five months old when I got him and had had some socialization with kids and other dogs but basically no training. The day I got him I told him to stay out of the kitchen twice and that’s all it took. Very seldom does he bark. And this is shocking: he seems to have natural watchdog and guard dog instincts. He is not hyper at all. We have a 5 acre orchard grass pasture, and he makes good use of his time out there. Other than a greyhound I had for a short while he is by far the fastest dog I’ve ever had. He loves his toys and hasn’t damaged anything. My wife is crazy about him which is awesome. The hypoallergenic and non-shedding qualities are also awesome. Not bragging about this dog is very difficult. He’s very gentle and loving. We are crazy about this dog 😂
@🌸callmehjacky🌸 they say they are number two right behind border collies. But with the poodle you don’t get those annoying herding instincts. Of course if you’re going to use a dog for herding, you want to be instincts intact.
I just got one last week. He is 6 months old. He is adorable. People think he is a golden doodle. He looks like one. Do you brush your dogs hair every day?
My standard is the best dog I’ve ever owned. She only barks when something is wrong, she watches the kids. Benefits of having a big dog without knocking over my toddler and fun enough to play with my 8 year old. Super active when we are ready, knows when she is supposed to chill. The most emotionally intuitive dog I’ve ever owned. They are tender hearted meaning you don’t need to yell or get frustrated with them-it will effect them greatly. Build confidence as a puppy and you’ll be fine. They spook easily but recover quickly if you have properly socialized your dog🤍
They are so intuitive! The only reason not to get one is if you can’t put in the time. I have a mini but she is so energetic, even at 10 YO. She is such an athlete and she really needs her exercise!
Lol I can’t agree w this one mines goes crazy when he hear the slightest noise 😂 oh let’s not get ta the part when he hears the door bell, he barking n running towards the door at the same time 🫣😬I let him be until he gets done n calm down cuss my little baby crazy 🥹
As a breeder of standards who genuinly wants puppies in forever homes I find this video very on point in regards to a.poodles needs. They want to be a family member and interact, they wont cope being a dog who is only there for the occasional interaction. They are super fast learners and can be trained to fit a family dynamic easily but they also have self respect and do actually expect to be part of the family not a side addition.
My poodle puppy is my first dog. I do not regret getting him at all - so smart, so sweet, very quiet, very polite, loves playing with kids and meeting other humans. You don't have to, but I have made some videos to record his life. Love, Akasha and mum
Yep, they're amazing! However, if you live rurally, watch out! We call our one boy bird brain. We have neighbors with peacocks always getting loose. Also, they love barking at UPS/FedEx. I'm sure yours will find something to bark at in time, LOL! At least they're not constant yappers for nothing. Enjoy your darling poodle treasure!
@@aubreyfaulkner1271 I don't know about the OP's poodle, but our four are perfectly content to lounge around and nap. They're not bouncing around all the time, but taking them outside is like flipping a switch. We live rurally, so giving them a time every day or so to run free off leash and cable makes them very happy! They are smart and playful, and it's a joy to see them play and run together. However, my one note of caution is that if you work all the time I don't know if they're the best fit. There's almost always someone home with ours. They behave extremely well when we're gone, but when we get back home even if it's only been an hour they act like it's been, like, a week LOL! Also, the grooming costs are REAL! We do some minor upkeep ourselves, but for the cut and wash take them to the groomer. With our 4, it's about $400, I think including tip.
I love my standard poodle! These 7 reasons honestly were things I was concerned about before taking a leap of faith. I'm glad I did because Blu completes our family. I have a toddler and the two are partners in crime at the house. Blu hardly barks except when he sees certain people walking near our house. Just the other day I had the front window open. The neighbor's dogs were in the front barking at my son and Blu. My son usually yells loudly at barking dogs and Blu was right beside him barking at them. At least for my standard poodle, he's a good workout partner. He's the reason I started going out for walks. Over time I learned how to groom my poodle. It is time-consuming and I used to pay for him to be groomed when I was working on my master's. I think it worked out for us because my husband and I work from home and the kids keep Blu busy.
Yep! Don't mean to knock the oodles of doodles out there, but why breed poodles with the other breeds? To add poodle perfection, LOL! I'm sure they're great too, but I will always love poodles first and foremost. 4:11
@@bennyventures8204 Hmm ... sorry for your bad experience. I've found them loving, empathetic, and quick learners. However, I will acknowledge they do have strong stubborn streaks when they're doing what they want to do and don't want to be stopped.
It's true that Miniature and Toy Poodles are loud, but Standards are actually quiet. I have had 2 SPoos working as my Service Dogs. People would comment on how quiet they were. Not because of my training, but because of them! Don't let noise factor be the deciding factor for you, at least for a STANDARD Poodle!
I've always had dogs. By far the best, calmest dog I've ever had was a standard poodle. (Her poodle mother was great, too.) Any smart owner can train a dog not to bark needlessly. The only legit "disadvantage" of a poodle is they need grooming BUT they also don't shed. They're hypoallergenic. The trade off is grooming but it's worth it to me.
Agree with the video, we spend £60 every 6 weeks on grooming. We walk her for around 1hour -1:30 hours a day. She goes to daycare on Friday and her morning walks we have a group so she can see her friends. The separation anxiety and noise can be helps with training but also with choosing the right breeder, ours mothers was rever calm and relaxed at home if she'd been walked and it was a trait she passed down. I would highly recommend poodles for people but remember you get out what you put in.
I spend $65+tip every 4-6 weeks on my standard and he gets a bath and blowout at home every week. He also gets an hour of exercise in the morning and gets a two mile walk/training session in the evening every day Multiple times a week we take on the town so he can get stimulation and socialization. He does have separation anxiety but we are actively working on it. A kennel is a must for him He is vocal but i have worked with him so it’s not so much of a problem. All in all I wouldnt trade him for the world
Thats a good deal. Out here its 150 every few months. Going to train at petco soon. Even vets ate more exp than doctors now.gotta sneak her into the docs
I had two Golden Doodles. Got them before I realized how over breed and over priced they were going to get. Sadly my one Golden doodle died before he reached the age of two. (Lymphoma) We liked the Poodle part of them so much that we adopted a Standard Poodle. She is beyond smart, and I've had smart dogs before. Yes, they need lots of fun play time and to be mentally challenged daily. I don't think I've ever had a dog that is more affectionate, she has to be close or touching all the time. The grooming is a challenge. My girl got nicked on the front leg at the groomers and now goes crazy if someone touches that one leg. They really are so smart and need to be trained. The barking on a Standard isn't much different from any other dog.
I have had three standard poodles throughout my life. One black, one white, and one red. I have had zero issues with any of them. They don't bark, they're not aggressive, they're clean, they're smart, they're very affectionate, very goofy. I cannot imagine having another breed of dog.
The only one I kinda disagree with is the barking. I don't think Standards (spoos) bark any more than most dogs; in fact, left to their own devices, my spoos are very quiet. The smaller poodles tend to be the barkers in my experience (my miniature is an excellent watch dog, but not yappy). My spoos usually only bark if another dog barks first like on a walk or the dog park, and even then, it's a couple 'hey friend!!' woofs. I think grooming is the one people don't fully appreciate until they get a poodle. It's GOT to be done, and it's either time consuming or expensive, depending on your values (save money vs save time). Luckily, spoos are highly trainable and want nothing more than to please you. If you are consistent with them early and buy quality tools, they aren't that hard to groom yourself. I started home haircuts during the pandemic. In the beginning, we had some embarrassing 'who did it and what for' haircuts, but I'm quite good now. The biggest mistakes people make are buying cheap clippers and going too long between brushing/clipping. Spoos are worth it though. I've never had such a well trained and behaved dog with minimal effort. My 8 week puppies were potty trained in a few days and taught themselves to use the doggy door. They are funny clowns that love to please and make you laugh. Now that I've had poodles, I'll never have another breed. #spoolove #poodlenotdoodle #floofcrew #triplethreat 🐩 🐩 🐩
The only dogs my family has ever had have been standard poodles. The two first poodles were girls but we adopted them after they couldn’t have puppies anymore. Our first standard poodle was an angel who would listen to us and follow instructions very well. When we ate she stayed under the dinner table and whenever my 5-6 year old sister and brother would dress her up she would just sit there and let them give her a makeover, although she was very close with my mom. The only problem was she LOVED butter. With our second poodle, we got her maybe a year or two before we moved to norway (we lived in the usa before) and she was a very sweet dog, who loved to walk to the beach despite not liking water, she acted sort of like she was the queen of the house and she was very polite. The only time I ever remember her barking/growling was when we saw another dog while we were on a walk, the reason she barked/growled at the dog was because she was trying to protect me, the other dog growled at me and sort of tried to run towards me though it’s owner stopped it. Keep in mind, the dog who barked at me was a lot bigger than my dog but she stood her ground because she was worried about me. She didn’t have any obsessions with butter but she liked bread. She was too polite to take it off the table like Sasha, our first dog though. The dog we have right now is our first male dog and we’ve had him since he was three months old. He’s a lot wilder but we figure that the reason behind that is that he’s a puppy. He’s very sweet, outgoing but shy at the same time and when a bigger dog gets a little too aggressive, he runs to hide behind my legs. He has thicker hair than either of our first dogs had but I think that’s mainly because he was born in Norway and has Norwegian genes so his fur has to be thicker to keep him warm. He’s a lot louder than Sasha or daisy whenever someone walks past the window though. He’s very playful but sleeps most of the day. Overall if you’re thinking of getting a standard poodle I would say go for it if you’ve taken its needs into consideration. They’re very good with kids and even though I’ve never had a toy poodle, I’ve heard they’re not as patient with young kids.
Our standard only barks with good reason--stranger comes to the door or a squirrel runs by. She rarely barks for attention or demands. Also, they need more than an hour of exercise a day. Probably more like 1.5 minimum with 2 being best! I learned to groom her myself, which is fun and saving me a fortune. The puppy stage is a lot of work but worth it. Ours settled down a lot by about 10 months. They are really unlike any other breed.
Just got mine not to long ago going thru the puppy stage she’s about 4 months old and it is a lot of work but I can 100% tell she is a very smart dog kinda scary/scared of other dogs and her surroundings but I feel like she just has to get use to it a little bit longer but it is a pain to get her to use the puppy training pads
I walk my poodle for almost an hour per day and play fetch with him for just 10 mins inside the house. He is totally content and happy. So, there are outliers!
I love you’re naming the reasons the dog is too good for most owners lol. People want to lay around and ignore their dog don’t get a poodle. You’re saying nothing but great things about poodles. Mine is 19 months and we hike and we play and he is always with me. Best dogs in in the world, a breed apart.
@@user-dabilover Mine lived a whole 16 years. Never had any issues, til the end. If you buy from a good, reputable breeder, there shouldn't be any health issues.
We have two poodle puppies and so much love. They are medium poodles and they’re so freaking smart. They really wanna know what you want from them and they’re happy to do it
One of the best , most intelligent ,, layed back dig I ever had ,, a beautiful standard poodle ,,, going in to getting a poodle you already know they require grooming 💔😢🥰🥰❤️
I've had std Poodles for 40 years, and with every breed there is a range. Some poodles are very active, some are not. Some poodles enjoy people/family companionship, some prefer another dog. As for barking, the trainability factor is more important. If the owner spends time responding appropriately to the barking (letting the dog know what's OK to bark at and what's not - they look to the owner for direction) then they quit barking at everything. I've had/have some very quiet poodles. Bottom line for poodles: 1. How much time do you have to research perspective poodles? Ask for what you want in your poodle? Decide what you want out of your poodle? 2. How willing are you to train and challenge your poodle's mind? Play games, hike, acknowledge stranger alerts and tell poodle "that's ok, stop barking." Engage with your poodle. 3. Grooming is required. Weekly brushing and nail trims, 6 week bathing and hair trims, and knowing what hair pattern works for your lifestyle. My current dog loves swimming so she is clipped shorter. Confirmation clips are much more involved/costly, requiring more commitment and $$$. Poodles are extremely smart, loyal, devoted companions that are versatile. Agility, obedience, therapy, confirmation, hunting, nose work like search & rescue, tricks, and are usually attracted to children in a loving and protective manner. There are excellent points in this video and can be true for particular poodles. Also can be proven incorrect by other poodles. Research perspective poodles well and find an honest, trustworthy breeder or spend time around the poodle before adoption.
Haha ....the cons are almost zero. The only con I can think of is they don't cross well. The intelligence does not transfer. You wind up with crosses that seem to seldom get the traits that make the Standards so amazing. The exceptionality of the standard poodles compared to just about every other breed is well known. I can't come up with more than one negative, much less 7 lol. Crazy vid. I called my Standard, Odin, my survivor dog, because he, like every other Standard Poodle I met, can out wit, outlast, and out play every dog we cross paths with.
I totally agree; I've met some dingy labradoodles and goldendoodles. They are rarely as smart as spoos, and the smarter ones are usually 75% spoo instead of 50%. I tell people all the time: if you want a labradoodle just because 'they look like teddy bears' or 'stuffed animals', get a standard and have it cut like a doodle; then, you have the best of everything. People think poodles have to be cut like 🐩, but poodles have the most versatile coats of any dog; different trims drastically change how they look. One of my spoos has a long top knot in a manny-tail; sometimes, I braid it for fun. The other, in a teddy bear clip, is confused for a doodle everytime we go out. People are like: those are the same kind of dog?? #poodlenotdoodle #spoolove #triplethreat #floofcrew 🐩🐶
I just adore standard poodles! I'm sorry but I just don't see the point cross-breeding them. I mean, I never thought I'd grow to be a breed snob but ... yeah, I totally am. As far as I'm concerned, poodles are like a step above any other dog. I grew up with lab mixes, and a Boston Tarrior, but it's poodles I love most. Due to how we got them, (rescue, re-homing, etc) we only have the AKC papers for one of our four, but that doesn't make them any less poodle in our eyes. They're all so incredibly bright, expressive, loving, and funny.
I never brush my poodles, they don't need it. Mine go for a haircut three or four times a year. Yep they want to walk with you. I have never had a destructive poodle and I leave mine alone all day while I go to work. They love going for rides. They are happy with one owner or a family. Great with all people ages. Very gentle dog. My poodles were all quiet - only barked when someone came to the door. Train them like any dog. Very intelligent, easy to train, and love the praise of doing the right thing, they live to please.
We are on our 7th Standard Poodle. Wouldn't swap for another breed. Whenever I've had issues with our dogs in hindsight it is because Poodles want, and want you, to live the best life.
Hi there! I am a dog groomer, and I’m so glad that you put growing on the number one spot, right friend center. You would not believe how many poodle owners or people that have poodle mixes come into my work and say that oh he’s hypoallergenic so I didn’t think I had to brush him 🤦🏼♀️ no I’m not kidding people actually say this to me. Grooming is so important for any dog, but especially a dog that can easily get matted and make their quality of life go down
So sad I volunteer at a dog shelter and most of the little dogs that come in need MAJOR grooming (most of the medium or large dogs we get have short hair that does not really need hardly anything in the way of hair care). It is so sad to see all of these little dogs just full of mats. Some can't see because they can't even see through all of the tangled hair covering their faces or can barely walk because of all of the hair balls between the paw pads. I don't know how the owners just ignore the hair care, even if they hadn't realized the care that the dogs need.
My Standard Poodle is the Bomb! Had 3 little dogs. Gone to Doggie Heaven. This Beautiful Animal is a Godsend. Quiet. Smart. Stubborn if u let him. 11 months. So watching the video I think each dog is Separate. How you go about teaching him or her is what will make u happy or sad. Always remember, you are the Leader! No ifs no buts. Dogs can feel you. Poodles are top Dogs. Easy to love and train. Enjoy ur Babies. I do! Gregory.
I’ve had toy and miniatures. Currently we have a miniature poodle who we got for a friend for our Saint Bernard. They are both pretty quiet and playful and totally love each other. Poodles are great.
We aren't that active. But we live on a farm and there are other dogs for him to play with outside. So his exercise needs are met by other dogs. Our standard poodle is a total sweetheart.
My poodle is actually really calm.. super chill on kayak trips just lays in my lap. She goes with me everywhere I can take her. She’s super docile, and even heards the blue heeler/Aussie shepherd in the house 🤣🤣🤣
Mine are farm dogs, they keep the horses and barn cats in line. We keep them mostly clipped for their comfort and our convenience, just a small top knot and tail Pom.
This video is 100% true. They are also not necessarily easy to train and can be 'spooked' easily and tend to have slightly fragile nerves. I love my spoo but it takes tons of time, patience, and physical energy. They are not lazy or old lady dogs
30-60 minutes a day, you must be joking, ours gets restless if she does not get 2-3 hours a day, plus ball games in the garden. having said that unless it's raining, she does not want to go out when it's raining. Otherwise spot on, great video. She can be hard work as she constantly wants to be busy, and we have never got her out of the habit of trying to chase squirrels and cats. She caught one once but only licked it, she is so gently, never damaged a toy ever. Her party trick is waking round shops, town centres off lead, and crossing roads on the crossings.
For anyone wondering, I work 3-4 12 hour shifts a week and mine are the happiest in the world. But we live within 10 minutes of several trails so on the off days, and sometimes even before or after work, they get a lot of stimulation consistently. But they can tolerate 12 hour shifts just fine if you compensate for it! I’m single so maybe that helps. My off time is generally focused on them.
Spot on video. The separation anxiety is a huge issue with one of my poodles. He’s very destructive when left alone. Even if it’s just for 15 minutes. So he gets crated or if we’re in the car we have to put a muzzle on him to prevent him from destroying anything. Definitely something you have to consider being an issue with these guys.
Train for crate . I started This early and haven’t had one problem . I even forgot to close the crate when leaving and he was on the same spot . They also feels secure in crate but is important to do it right . Is allot of good crate Videos on RUclips 👍🏻
I definitely agree. I I have got a standard poodle. He's family and my best friend. We go everywhere together. He never is on his own. His name is buddy and I love him so much. He's just amazing.
My standard LOVES to GO anywhere . Out to dinner, shopping, to hotels, sailing, Maryland to Miami car rides. He doesn’t care as long as he’s with me. People don’t understand why he’s always going places with me but I know it makes him happy and he makes me happy. He understands so much language! But he is super chill- no barking no accidents when I have to leave him either. But life is so much more fun with him.
I have two standards (two is must for this breed in my opinion) they are everything on this list and more. The separation anxiety for standards is very, very high. I love my 'Caniche' poodles but would only recommend them for someone that works from home, or that is an active retired person. They really are 'needy' in that way.
I’ve had min poodles my entire life and have kept my dear standard poodle for the past five years 🙏 I trained my standard to follow basic commands within two weeks ❤ She almost never barks. Only when someone knocks on our door (never) She’s never jumped on people without being asked to do so Housebreaking was a dream If I’m up and active she’ll join; if I want to veg out she’ll gladly participate She free feeds She plays gently with my three under three and has always been very patient with them I walk with her off leash and have never worried about wanderlust with her (I can go on and on 😅) --- The only part of this video that resonates with me is the separation anxiety 🥹nothing severe. I just stick the trash Can in our bathroom and problem solved 🙏🙏🙏🙏 I do hope my comment resonates with at least one person considering a poodle purchase Try to meet the entire litter and see how the pups play before buying in order to make the best pick for your home ❤ ❤❤We love you Duchess Colette Henson of Baltimore ❤❤
My poodle is not a people pleaser. He will bark when he wants something and not go away until you figure out what he wants. We are going to get him a brother today, because he loves to be with other dogs, we just can't give him what he needs with walks and play time. Definitely not like any other breed of dog I have had.
@@NoThankUBeQuiet only in this instance would I say this could work. Standards are so smart, they HAVE to be able to entertain themselves. If not, they get anxious and destructive. If you can't devote a great deal of time to a particularly needy one, adding a friend can give them a way to burn energy and entertain themselves. It is a gamble though, because not every dog wants a friend, but I've never met a standard that didn't.
@@krugy562 mine as well. My red is a complete mama's boy; his favorite activity is laying with his cheek on me somewhere, anywhere (as we speak). My blue girl is a bossy little flirt; she does everything at 100% full power. Them together, though, is hilarious 😂
30min to an hour of activity a day? That's bare minimum... Also, in terms of barking, a bored poodle will bark but if you walk them a few times a day and play with them, they are usually pretty content.
This was great just one correction Per breed standard the maximum size is 70 lb so you shouldn't see a poodle that is 80 to 85 lb the max in for a well-bred poodle is 70 lb
2:12 that's why they are often portrayed as good to watch out the kids... of course, you need to educate the kid and your dog: mental stimulation for your poodle and empathy and ethical responsabiliti to your children
On our 3rd. He is almost 5 months. Hell on wheels 😮. 2nd is 8 y.o. She is amazing. Loving but has major separation anxiety from me. Will wait at the door for hours whining. The pup will sit with her to keep her company. I groom(ed) all 3. No way I'm gonna fork out 100 bucks a cut. Stranger's who own poodles ask me who the groomer is lol. So I can't be that bad. 1st male was horrible on leash. Stubborn like you wouldn't believe. 2nd, she is incredible. No real training. Off leash might as well be on leash. Follows hand signals chasing rabbits and never trained her! Pup is hell on wheels 😂😂 All smart. 1st male amazingly smart. 2nd is only poodle smart but HATES learning tricks. Pup just might be smarter than both. Twisting cap off bottle at 11 weeks old after watching my daughter show him how to do it. ONCE! But did I mention he's hell on wheels??😮 Wild child and fearless. He'll be interesting to see grow these next couple of years. Oh and I'm a poodle snob lol. Love the breed. Owned a few other types but poodles are special.
This was a GREAT comment. Hell on wheels - but you obviously love your little homie. 😍 I'll bet he's not hell on wheels - he's just too smart for his own good. But, I'll also bet you LOVE that about him. A real poodle snob wants a super intelligent pup knowing that they're going to have their hands full, but wouldn't have it any other way! I'll bet that's you. 😉
Great video. As a standard and miniature owner, I can say, "spot on". They are NOT for everybody, and may the good lord help you if you are not a suitable owner. 😉
I haven’t ever really considered a poodle before because of the general look you see, but now that my super active Aussie is getting older, I’m considering the breed when it comes time to get another. I want a super smart dog who doesn’t shed as much as my Aussie does, but still likes to go on runs with me.
Don’t come for me but I got all three standard poodle miniture poodle and toy poodle (they need a lot of training and a playful home and lots of grooming and a good home) but the sad news is if your in work all day (ITS NOT A GOOD BREED FOR YOU)
DAYCARE if you work. They are completely worn out after 8 or 9 hours. Crateless daycare is best. My dog's best friend was a German- short haired pointer as they like other hunting breeds.
I have a mini sold as a toy .. large toy off color light apricot . Full color tiny crest on his neck . bad bite but darling personality and trained so well 💪🏻😁
I have a poodle and he is such an amazing dog. Grooming only takes up to an hour and the barking is only when they are alerting you or when they are scared. They are a great family dog and companion. And yes they do need exercise but that is with all dogs. And again yes they are very smart and stubborn but if you are lazy then your dog is gonna have a miserable life.
My girl is great - very important point it the grooming -it’s a life choice -I groom myself and it’s a big commitment. She’s up for any activity and is fun all the time . She’s shy with people which is a shame but at 4 years old she’s improving all the time . Wouldn’t be without her . Must points go for all dogs though
I love my poodle so much! My biggest warning is they’re SO SMART he knows how to open the cabinets, the trash can, the gate latch with A LOCKING MECHANISM, doors, windows, the litter box, everything but the fridge and I fear for the day he learns because I know it’s coming. Also they’re super picky eaters and MAJOR clingers they pick 1 person and if that person leaves their sight they have a panic attack 😂
Smart hardly describes Baby Caleb, our standard. We live on 12 acres and fencing the property is not practical. Its convenient to to let him out with out one of the adults. So we bought a GPS collar. We had used a electronic collar for early training and he was use to tones and vibration. He wore the GPS collar to good effect. After a month or so we discovered Caleb had memorized the virtual fence He no longer requires the collar !
I love my poodles they’re so fun, smart, nice to be around, always want to play, go on walks, they pick up commands fast, they love children etc. I always take care of their hair I feel bad for the owners that don’t take care of their hair.
#5 is the reason why German Shepherds won the contest for selecting war dogs. Standard Poodles were also found to be tougher, but more likely to befriend the enemy.
Lols, my standard hardly barks. When working with the show poodles, they are the quietest ones at the show. My girl only barks in playing or when someone comes to the gate, and when I say enough, she stops right away. Because they are so smart you can easily train them not to bark except when you allow it. These are the 2 reasons I allow it. Play and let me know someone is here with only up to 2 or 3 barks but then stop when I say so. Most of the reasons "not" to get a poodle is why I got one lols. My girl is my service dog and we compete in rally. At home in the house she is a cuddle bug or she is laying on the floor somewhere very chill.
3:30 My dog Oreo whines so much everytime leave to go somewhere. We bought a camera that can access the house and we can speak to Oreo to keep his sanity together.
Have had poodles for years, all sizes , mainly standards. Most wonderful dogs in my opinion, but cross breeding them does not get always get you their great characteristics. I wish people would more appreciate the "just Poodle" breed , but i love all dogs so doodles etc too ❤
I was under the misconception that poodles were an over-domesticed, slightly degenerated dog breed. My first real encounter with a poddle was at my brother's who got himself one. Before I met the dog my brother had to suffer a lot of piss-taking from me for getting himself a poddle, but boy, did I change my opinion. That dog had next-level intelligence. It was not even dog-like. It was eerie.
We have a 3mo old puppy that is gaining 1.1lbs every 5 days. What a sweet dog. We chose this one due to its aptitude scores. So incredibly loving, personable and very trainable!
Sorry but…these dogs are very kind and cuddly, they are NOT destructive, very good with little kids, you don’t need 2, you don’t need to brush their body, they do bark a little bit but that just takes some training. They are just about the best dog you can get!! I for sure suggest you get one!! 🐩 ❤
I have two standards. One is from a hunting stock, is quiet and only barks with purpose, is very active. The other is from a pet breeder and is a couch potato, is quiet, and barks like any other dog would at a sound or stranger. All dogs deal with separation anxiety, but poodles are not known to be worse than other breeds. Are poodles aloof? Yes! They are NOT everyone’s friend and strangers do not interest them. My poodles do not like strangers touching them and will duck their head to avoid someone’s hand.
1. Completely shaving a poodle is not uncomfortable for them. It is called a hunting cut that minimizes seeds that want to travel like fox tails. It also makes owning a poodle cheaper if you do not shave them yourself. 2. The little poodle has little dog syndrome. Standard poodles are normal dogs in personality. Two dog mentality is not limited to poodles. Although, a standard poodle is athletic enough to be with many breeds and not get bit. 3. Poodles require dog experience because of their grooming and exercise needs.
My poodle is very smart but a bit pushy with kids. He needs a playmate, but we don’t have the right situation for another poodle right now. Plus he is only 1.5 years, and still a puppy. One thing the video didn’t talk about is food. My guy eats, but is very casual about it. He loves his treats, but again he only really gets excited if it’s something new or he hasn’t had it for a while. Even high value treats will not compete with a good romp. He prefers play to treats most of the time, even meat or cheese!
Really good video. Barking and need for new activities is something you don't hear about as much.
Thank you!
Mines is amazing and very smart!
Poodles are not a yappy breed! Read all the comments of actual poodle owners. This video is wrong.
@@Blitznstitch2 yea mines bark now I think about it
Tohle je video je nesmysl úplně o hovně. Mluví člověk který ví o pudlech úplne hovno
I just cannot tell how we love our standard poodle.
@🌸callmehjacky🌸 they say they are number two right behind border collies. But with the poodle you don’t get those annoying herding instincts. Of course if you’re going to use a dog for herding, you want to be instincts intact.
I grew up with a large standard poodle. lovely breed. he was a hecking good boi
You know how we feel. Thank you. Enjoy. G.
Standard Poodles are, as seen by most other dog breeds, a Cult.
My standard is a saint. He is very quiet. Loves everyone, super friendly with other dogs visits the neighbors and is more like a human than dog.
Mines too
I agree, I have 2 and they’re amazing!
I just got one last week. He is 6 months old. He is adorable. People think he is a golden doodle. He looks like one. Do you brush your dogs hair every day?
Where did you get him?
@@williamcullin who are you asking? I wasn't sure lol sorry
I love ❤️ ❤️ my Standard Poodle! She is the sweetest disposition dog and loves to be with me. Standard Poodles make wonderful companions.
They are so intuitive! The only reason not to get one is if you can’t put in the time. I have a mini but she is so energetic, even at 10 YO. She is such an athlete and she really needs her exercise!
Since I'm allergic to everything else, poodle was the only choice. Husband doesn't like small dogs so standard poodles it is. We've had eight now.
Poodles are absolutely the best companions they are so intelligent and know what you are going to think before you do!!
My poodles are amazing, very relaxed, barely makes noise, loves their play time, they’re very smart and listens very well!
Love,
Akasha and mum
Yep, they're amazing! However, if you live rurally, watch out! We call our one boy bird brain. We have neighbors with peacocks always getting loose. Also, they love barking at UPS/FedEx. I'm sure yours will find something to bark at in time, LOL! At least they're not constant yappers for nothing. Enjoy your darling poodle treasure!
is he overly energetic? like can he just lay around and chill or do you have to constantly entertain him ? i want one so bad 😢
Best dog I’ve ever had. Poodles are great athletes , incredible underrated breed
I love my Standard Poodle we go on long runs and he is a machine
You forgot to mention these dogs can read minds they’ll know what your thinking it’s mind blowing I love poodles 🐩 there something else in a good way.
My old poodle had that ability and it was unbelievable. It made us love it more in a human way. They sense moods and read faces.
@@anon82037 awweee agree
Best emotional therapy dogs ever!
They're just like a human... or even better than most human lol
There is an "oodle" type of every dog. Labradoodle, Goldendoodle, etc. Just get a poodle! Wonderful companion. Just the best.
Yep! Don't mean to knock the oodles of doodles out there, but why breed poodles with the other breeds? To add poodle perfection, LOL! I'm sure they're great too, but I will always love poodles first and foremost. 4:11
@@seamarie3111 pretty sure it’s to get rid of the many undesirable traits…the worst behaved dogs I’ve ever interacted with are standard poodles.
@@bennyventures8204 Hmm ... sorry for your bad experience. I've found them loving, empathetic, and quick learners. However, I will acknowledge they do have strong stubborn streaks when they're doing what they want to do and don't want to be stopped.
@@seamarie3111 I will say it easily could have been the owners as well, like any dog their treatment is really what makes them who they are.
@@bennyventures8204 Yep! We've had amazing non-poodle dogs as well. Poodles do love to have their own way, I will say that.
Hahaha. Not in this house! It’s weird how so many dogs have all these generalizations. Like people, they are all very different.
My dad has had two Standard Poodles... both such great, amazing dogs. Very gentle, sweet, just fantastic dogs.
Thanks for the comment! Good info!
it is also very important to stimulate a poodle's brain. Many trips just increase the need for more and longer trips
My two standards are wonderful dogs, they are quite happy to exercise in the yard, they love cuddles and a quiet life.
I’m a truck driver and me and my poodle are best buddies.
I spend $65+tip every 4-6 weeks on my standard and he gets a bath and blowout at home every week.
He also gets an hour of exercise in the morning and gets a two mile walk/training session in the evening every day
Multiple times a week we take on the town so he can get stimulation and socialization.
He does have separation anxiety but we are actively working on it. A kennel is a must for him
He is vocal but i have worked with him so it’s not so much of a problem.
All in all I wouldnt trade him for the world
That doesn’t seem bad at all. My toys are the same, but I dream of having a standard.
You are an amazing owner. Great work
Thats a good deal.
Golden doodles are awesome, but that's the think with any doodle, they don't come from ethical breeders so you don't know what you're getting :(
I have had three standard poodles throughout my life.
Yes good info! Thanks for sharing about the grooming. I think that is overlooked for poodles and doodles
I love the one where they say a poodle may not be for you because they are very smart…so what’s the “dumbest” dog in the world like 🤣🤣
Afghan hound = dumb. Like most Instagram influencers...
Pretty but dumb.
I have 2 standard poodles and a toy poodle. They are AMAZING!
Im a barber, so the grooming part will be fun! Just got my pup yesterday

how is it going with your little one?
I hope u post on it
Would love to see what u come up with
Start grooming the first day or two. It will set the parameters. Otherwise dog may decide to hate the grooming
Yeah mine is super lazy 😅 we walk the quarter mile trail at the end of the day and he’s good
I love you’re naming the reasons the dog is too good for most owners lol. People want to lay around and ignore their dog don’t get a poodle. You’re saying nothing but great things about poodles. Mine is 19 months and we hike and we play and he is always with me. Best dogs in in the world, a breed apart.
Love poodles, and poodle mixes. Worth owning, even with all the cons.
Poodle mixes are horrible byb and unhealthy😊
@@user-dabilover Mine lived a whole 16 years. Never had any issues, til the end. If you buy from a good, reputable breeder, there shouldn't be any health issues.
Nice video with ONE exception. STANDARD Poodles, don’t tend to bark as much as the smaller varieties. Based on personal experience.
Bottom line for poodles:
Great info thanks for sharing!!
Well said.
Yes!!!!
As a master groomer - I agree!!!!
Poodles can be super chill. We have had poodles that picked at the trash and spread it around the house and others that were happy to just be cool
My Standard Poodle is the Bomb! Had 3 little dogs. Gone to Doggie Heaven. This Beautiful Animal is a Godsend. Quiet. Smart. Stubborn if u let him. 11 months. I adore my Standard Boy, Sam. He is whip smart, mostly well behaved, have a slight growling issue but he is working on it, best dog ever.
I’ve had toy and miniatures. Currently we have a miniature poodle who we got for a friend for our Saint Bernard. They are both pretty quiet and playful and totally love each other. Poodles are great.
my parents have a one standard poodle, she's so so so cute, we love her with all of our hearts..
all kind of obvious? which dog wouldn't need mental stimulation, adequate exercise and time/ availability from their owner?
We aren't that active. But we live on a farm and there are other dogs for him to play with outside. So his exercise needs are met by other dogs. Our standard poodle is a total sweetheart.
My poodle is actually really calm.. super chill on kayak trips just lays in my lap.
She goes with me everywhere I can take her. She’s super docile, and even heards the blue heeler/Aussie shepherd in the house 🤣🤣🤣
Mine are farm dogs, they keep the horses and barn cats in line. We keep them mostly clipped for their comfort and our convenience, just a small top knot and tail Pom.
poodles can do it all
S Poodles exhibit PURE JOY! They never tire of playing. They are soooooo smart
But also very adaptive in my experience. If I want to lounge for a day, they lounge too. If I’m up, out and about, they are right there with me.
This video is 100% true. They are also not necessarily easy to train and can be 'spooked' easily and tend to have slightly fragile nerves. I love my spoo but it takes tons of time, patience, and physical energy. They are not lazy or old lady dogs
BEST DOG EVER,!
Yes exactly
Best dog we ever had. Love this breed so much we got a female pup as a companion for the msle.
I have two standards (two is must for this breed in my opinion) they are everything on this list and more. The separation anxiety for standards is very, very high. I love my 'Caniche' poodles but would only recommend them for someone that works from home, or that is an active retired person. They really are 'needy' in that way.
Awesome dog breed!
Poodles do work for autistic people.
I wouldn't mind doing the chore of taking care of them. Favorite breed.
I’ve had min poodles my entire life and have kept my dear standard poodle for the past five years 🙏
I trained my standard to follow basic commands within two weeks ❤
She almost never barks. Only when someone knocks on our door (never)
She’s never jumped on people without being asked to do so
Housebreaking was a dream
If I’m up and active she’ll join; if I want to veg out she’ll gladly participate
She free feeds
She plays gently with my three under three and has always been very patient with them
I walk with her off leash and have never worried about wanderlust with her
(I can go on and on 😅)

The only part of this video that resonates with me is the separation anxiety 🥹nothing severe. I just stick the trash Can in our bathroom and problem solved

Awesome!
My poodle is not a people pleaser. He will bark when he wants something and not go away until you figure out what he wants. We are going to get him a brother today, because he loves to be with other dogs, we just can't give him what he needs with walks and play time. Definitely not like any other breed of dog I have had.
Good luck! Poodles 🐩 appreciate a friend for sure
So you are in over your head with one dog and you think adding a second is the solution
This was great just one correction
Per breed standard the maximum size is 70 lb so you shouldn't see a poodle that is 80 to 85 lb the max in for a well-bred poodle is 70 lb
My parents had one that was 120 he was perfectly proportioned.
Pup is hell on wheels 😂😂
All smart.
I'll bet he's not hell on wheels - he's just too smart for his own good.
I want a super smart dog who doesn’t shed as much as my Aussie does, but still likes to go on runs with me.
poodles are awesome!
Get a standard, it'll be able to keep up better.
Don’t come for me but I got all three standard poodle miniture poodle and toy poodle (they need a lot of training and a playful home and lots of grooming and a good home) but the sad news is if your in work all day (ITS NOT A GOOD BREED FOR YOU)
I have a doodle but would love a poodle!
Do it! You'll never go back! #poodlenotdoodle
Best dog we ever had! This vid is spot on.
This is always very true i highly recommend to watch this. Before getting a beautiful standard poodle
Thank you!
This video is so true. Our poodle is exactly this way to the T
I have a chihuahua mix and a purebred standard poodle, weird mix bc one was 25$ and the other was over 1k 💀
Try adding a chi-weenie to the mix 😅
Who is the trouble maker in the house
I love my Standard poodle. They do bond to you like a child.
Best dog ever. I have a spoo and he is the best
I wish people would more appreciate the "just Poodle" breed , but i love all dogs so doodles etc too ❤
My dog is 9 years old, and the last time she was tortured at a groomer's was 8 years ago. She has never been shaved. Great dog.
They are destructive
Are you kidding me?
You’ve clearly never had a real standard poodle not a fake mini.
Actually you do have to you do have to brush your poodle almost every day.
Depends of the haircut.
I came here to talk myself out of getting a poodle. This video was incredibly unhelpful, only giving more reasons to get one. :D
My buddy was SAME WAY when it came to people touching him - ESPECIALLY his top knot.
😂
They can lock you out of your house! Twice this has happened. Is it just mine or is this common?
mine can open any door - from the outside !
Best dog of all time
is 4-6 hours left every 2nd/3rd day ok? while working at home every alternate day?
Yes that’s no problem at all
My previous job, I was away for 9+ hours, Monday to Friday, but I had two standards and a miniature with a backyard to play in while I was gone.
