    Sir....I have 2 questions...
    1)why the acid proton attacks on ketone group of your initial reagent..Why not on alcohol group so that it can form water molecule and leave easily.(3:00 min).
    2) why the two hydroxyl groups on the same carbon atom react together and forms ketone (5:00min.)

    In the very first step of the reaction, why did the acid attacked on the carbonyl oxygen rather than alcoholic oxygen???

      But alcoholic oxygen have two electron pairs also... And they can attack to the acid to form OH2+ which is further a good leaving group???
