    I am totally with Jordan on the gear. Outside of a great amp and guitar, all you need is one solid distortion pedal, one effex, and a noise gate. Anything more than that is just "overwhelming".

  • @alexbc131
    @alexbc131 8 лет назад +20

    Love how these guys are so simple about the gear. I have so many buds who are always buying and selling pedals in search of something that they will NEVER find. Plug the guitar in and play!! Thanks guys.

    Our video. We started the Rig Rundown onstage, but doors dictated we go into a different area. They got pulled over on the way into town because of their gear-trailer so they either had to do soundcheck or do the interview, so they opted for the interview, which won them some points from PG!

  • @oldpantsnewjersey
    @oldpantsnewjersey 11 лет назад +2

    Maybe knowing the length and brand of cable is part of your essential rig, but if that is what's required to prove you're not a "stupid" or "alcohol abusing" guitar player, then it sounds like you're the one exemplifying a "too cool for school" attitude. These guys clearly value writing, performance, and feeling over memorizing technical specs. It's great that it's your voice, but diverse values make diverse music.
    Also, for the record, Andy Williams (the bearded guitarist) is straight edge.

    Okay, wizard, here's a little history lesson. When these guys SAY JCM 800 they mean a Marshall 2203 or 2204 (depending on wattage). These are a 2 input amp with cascaded gain stage and master volume. They existed in both JMP and JCM800 cabinet styles as seen here.

    Here we go.....Any argument like that is semantical, arbitrary, and pointlessly based on personal opinion. Pups/speakers/amp/cab design all factor in different ways according to what they are and how they're being used. In a closed-back cab the assertion that the speaker is less of a factor is theoretically accurate. If you think an amp is 2/3 of the tone you've never played a S/C vs a HB in the same amp. Do you know what make/model speakers you are using at the moment in your cab of choice?

    It's genuinely saddening that there are decent-natured and well-intentioned people that call themselves musicians and look at music in such a primitive, narrow, and apprehensive way. Your misguided and fallacious mocking doesn't show that you are superior because you don't have the capacity to enjoy certain kinds of music. It shows that you are immature and limited in scope. By the way, looking at music in a more positive way would help your resource videos immensely. Good luck, man.

  • @thetonyballs
    @thetonyballs 12 лет назад

    The Marshall "plexi" style amp was also made in both cabinet designs. These were lower gain, had no master volume, and 4 inputs.
    So just because you have a "JCM 800" amp, does not mean it will sound like these idiots....it may sound like AC/DC instead. Try googling "1959 JCM800" or "2203 JMP" for the proof!

    • @MrSimondaniel3
      @MrSimondaniel3 6 лет назад

      thats not 100% right. it will sound like ACDC IF you dont use a tube screamer/ some kind of overdrive. BOSS SD-1, OCD, Klon, graphic EQ, etc. you're right that JCM800 isnt only 1 model, but all jcm 800s sound pretty similar. And the majority of metal bands have used the 2203/ TS combo. bottom line- even tho a jcm800 could be a 2203,2204,2205,2210, or even 1959, they all sound pretty close, besides overall watts + channel switching.

  • @thetonyballs
    @thetonyballs 12 лет назад

    All three of these guys should learn that a JCM 800 is not a model of amp, its an era of Marshall cabinet styles.

  • @SixStringHarmonies
    @SixStringHarmonies 11 лет назад

    Are they songwriters, or guitarists? Perhaps both? It doesn't matter, they don't have to care what speakers they use. They should, however, know. Big difference. The sound of your guitar is your voice. If one cares not for their own "voice", que sera. Not important. Personally, I don't care what cable I use. I sure as hell KNOW which it is, though. The "too cool for school" attitude amongst certain players is why fluent musicians loathe guitarists. I'm sure they know what beer is in their hand.

  • @SixStringHarmonies
    @SixStringHarmonies 11 лет назад

    Ultimately, it doesn't matter. They truly owe nothing to the community, and it is that which comprises the sum of their contribution. In ten years, not ten people will remember their compositions. Berklee, GIT, and Julliard have plenty of other material to teach. Gifts from players who, themselves, don't find a delay pedal "too complicated". At the end of the day, no one really gives a shit what they do or don't do. Just tune to Drop C, make your one-finger-chords, and chug your brains out.

    Huh? Throughout 16 years in the industry I can't think of two musicians (especially rock guitarists) who had no idea what speakers they use in their live rig. It's either a sign of abject stupidity, or more likely, the sign of copious drug and alcohol abuse. It's theoretically half of the voice of your guitar. Most are familiar with it.
