Thank you for sharing your cautionary tale and tender hugs to you and your sweet daughter. I love that you share your stories while planning. Your process is so inspiring that I got over my hesitation to add any check register pages to my Filofax just in case it got lost, but appreciate that section. Now, I just have to get into the habit of checking my balances and confirming against what’s written down every day. I am the primary caregiver for my soon to be 91 year old mom, so I have double the amount of accounts to track. Thanks to you, I’m now back to following my budget vs reactionary checkbook balances and crossing off when I pay bills. I like that you enlarge the print on those pages. The next time I print mine, I will enlarge them and my 51 year old eyes will be happy. Hope you all get things settled and protected. I use Norton password vault and virus protection because someone tried to steal 2k from my savings and I thankfully caught it in time. Now, my Norton subscription is a must have along with regularly changing all my passwords.
Hi Coretta! I am glad my planning system inspires you. Inspiration from this planner community is so great. we get to incorporate things that work and try things we wouldn't have otherwise. Picking and choosing what works for us is key! 91 years old! Your mom must be awesome! I hope to live as long. :)
I’m a victim of identity theft as well. It’s just sad that evil people exist. I actually felt like I had been raped by a mysterious person and it made me sick physically and emotionally. One never really gets over this. Years later, I still check and recheck every single thing. I will not ever forget it and never let my guard down again. I send prayers to you all for successful recovery and prosecution for the sick evil one! 🙏🙏👍👍🙏🙏
oh Marsha- I know exactly how you feel. I am so sorry you experienced this. The panic and the fear is something I dont think me or my daughter will forget. The idea people do this is heartbreaking. I, like you, check my credit every month. just for assurance. I also freeze all my reports and credit cards. I helped my daughter do the same. things I wish I would have done before this traumatic situation. sending you positive vibes.
So sorry you had to go through all this! Phone tree hell is the worst! Hope that the creep that did this gets to spend time in the slammer for this. Thieves SUCK! Has anyone ever told you that your voice sounds like Mary Steenburgen?
Thank you, it has definitely been an ordeal. We are hoping that because they filed a false tax return- that they discover who they are but chances are slim. and... YES, I get that I sound like Mary Steenburgen A LOT!!! My daughter and I find that so funny!!!
Holy crap that's so scary!! You really made me think about some things for my kids, particularly the credit cards vs their ATM cards. We just got a credit card for ourselves for this very reason but I didn't even think about my kids. Will they notify you if they find the person? Not who they are of course, just if they were found and if any charges were being pressed or anything like that? Is your daughter ok now? Really hope they can track down whoever did it.
It is SOOO not what we were expecting or needing this month. Yes, gurl- get the credit cards for kids instead of atm- or add authorized users to your card. The IRS said that they will reject the return and investigate but not to hold my breath. They said we can request a status of the tax return identity theft in 9 weeks. any progress will be in a report. we shall see. and YES whoever did this broke a ton of laws which are all felonies. crazy!!
I haven’t finished listening to the story but wanted to just comment a few things.
1) although the IRS only corresponds by mail. There are really well done scam IRS letters. So definitely pull the number from their website not the letter to ensure it’s legit. It’s becoming increasingly hard to spot scam letters posing as the IRS.
2) it can be harder to verify minors (assuming she is one) because they don’t have tax filing history and credit. IDMe is nice bc it can be hard to verify someone that’s not got a credit history. So though although stuff does seem shady the not being able to verify her doesn’t mean she had her identity stolen necessarily.
Hi there! :). Yes, scammers have gotten very slick. this is something I am very aware about and also remind my mom who is elderly. My daughter is over 18 and does have a credit history - which is why we are super concerned because her credit is over 700. Thankfully she has gotten verified by several important government agencies. We are very lucky in that sense. Hopefully we resolve it soon. it has been quite the ordeal. Thanks for watching! :)
@@MyMoxieDreams I’ll be praying for it to get worked out soon!
