It goes without saying, the 500 is a true icon of post-WW2 mass market motoring. I had a 126, and that was quirky enough. The Mini also came out in 1959. While on paper at least, the new Mini would have been a better option, price wise at the time of release, I wonder how it compared to the baby Fiat?
The Fiat 500 really was a car to give the masses transport. Its an icon like you say, like the mini, 2cv and the Renault 4. These small cars changed the way the world used their cars (pretty much apart from America who just went bigger and bigger) which is only changing now with the SUV. I like how the brochure is laid out, how it looks and how it presents, what is a rival to our own Austin, Morris, Hillman etc models. It would have been a tough sell here in the UK at this time due to the dislike of foreign cars and Italian ones only 14 years after world war 2. In the 60s yes it would have been easier to sell along with the Beetle and Mini though. Nice video and cant wait for the next one.
Beautiful little cars, and so simple. I'm not sure if they would make it up into the Italian Alps, though. They were a hit then, and the new version that Fiat still produces is also a hit. That sunroof version not only had a white steering wheel, but also duotone front seats. Similar to the body colour, with a white section at the top. Likely they were the first actual car that many Italians ever owned.
The Fiat 500, 9 feet 6 inches long, six inches shorter than the Mini at ten feet, the engine sounds like a buzzing bee. I have had a ride in one of these years ago, and even Pope Paul VI at the Vatican. It was launched in 1957 two years after the slightly bigger Fiat 600 in 1955.
Personally I can't see the point of the 500! Do people realise it came out after the SIX hundred? So why , if the engine is already SMALL - why on earth dring another car out, with an engine that's even smaller? And with a crummy TWO cylinder la yout - instead of 4

Great little cars
I remember a few years ago seeing one in Carlisle where I live outside a cafe near my work, LHD and with Spanish plates on it! Quite a road trip.
That would be quite the trip

Simple cheap with some style

I believe the open roof was standard on all models, a clever way to save on metal.
Harry's Garage just did a video on his 500 and updating it to 695cc. Put a link to your video there, and your channel might get a boost.

Personally think it’s a genius city car for the time
