    the world really had been a mess since Prince left us. Tears in my eyes, lump in my throat. The estate are negligent to not have properly released Montreux - great footage, great music, great legacy.

      Prince's 2009 Montreux concert was on YT for a long time, but for whatever reason it was taken down by the Montreux people. They owned the video, not the estate. So, the estate can't release it. The entire concert can still be found online though.

      @@GuitarSoloReactions It truly broke my heart when he passed. I still feel that loss. Guess that's grief for people you love. That was prince for me and I'm not an overly obsessed fan of anyone. It was his guitar work. His amazing vocals. Like seriously amazing. Magical. Soulful. Prince originally recorded this song with The Revolution in 1985, but most of us only heard it a decade later, during the Slave/Symbol period, when he produced a video using that studio recording, and started playing it as a teaser for shows at Paisley Park. People had hopes back then that it might be officially released, but it never happened (I always surmised due to it being such a personal song).

      @danielserda 2 года назад +1

      @@berlinas2000 yeah, I was only referencing the original studio recording. Between the two, I prefer Montreux 2009 to C-NOTE (which I think was actually a warm-up session for NPGMC members?). Which one do you prefer?

    • @berlinas2000
      @berlinas2000 2 года назад +2

      @@danielserda For the longest time, the C-NOTE version was my favorite (including anything I’d heard on live bootlegs). But the Montreux version has surpassed it for me. However, to me the C-NOTE version was Prince when he was sad about the break-up and the Montreux version was Prince when he’s pissed off about it. The emotion (and seeing him play it) seals the deal for me.

    Such a great performance. Those two Montreux shows for me are the high point of Prince playing guitar, he really seemed out to prove a point on those shows. I think physically he was starting to hurt too much to be the dancing frontman anymore and just decided to let the musician/singer take all the attention. Also worth noting this was an unreleased track - he had songs that good that he didn't put on albums! I think he knew what was circulating amongst bootleggers though, as he also plays Large Room With No Light at theses shows, that and Empty Room are amongst the fan favourites of unreleased material (at that time).

    • @GuitarSoloReactions
      @GuitarSoloReactions  2 года назад +2

      He was definitely on a mission to show his guitar playing skills. I was cursory fan till i started to do these videos, I knew he played guitar and well. I just hadn't seen him play in a few decades. He was a huge talent in so many ways, but his later years of guitar playing shine bright.

      @@GuitarSoloReactions Probably not good for reactions as neither have videos, but one of the most beloved solos he ever did would be the Small Club Aftershow version of Just My Imagination ruclips.net/video/GO-B5trlkJo/видео.html - for most fans it's the best solo he ever did. I also love the soundcheck jam of Feel U Up from 1988, ruclips.net/video/ATCHKhNfgw8/видео.html phenomenal playing in a different context - great to hear what he played when he didn't have an audience, just impressing himself and his band. Well another really great reaction video Brian ! As mentioned by the other Bryan who did a reaction video on that performance too, sometimes a performer reaches some kind of high level of musicianship where the soul matches perfectly the stage, the moment, the instrument and I don't know what else. But this is definitely what happens here. A perfect combination of something ineffable. The tone of the guitar is really amazing and damn, he really told a little heartfelt story with his guitar here. And you have really the right words in the end of the video to describe it. Last but not least, but as usual, this band behind him in that era was incredibly tight and good.

    • @GuitarSoloReactions
      @GuitarSoloReactions  2 года назад +1

      I really hope not, I'm assuming you're talking about lyrical content and image. I'm an old man, everything he did seemed honest and from his heart. To me that is art at its core. I can't really say I can speak for those of us that would use someones past, if we are talking words and image, to diminish someone's work. Now actions is a different story. Maybe I'm missing the point of the question, I just see some of his stuff as dated at worst.

      @@Ed7501 it's an interesting conundrum... I wonder if he'd have let his actions continue to talk regardless... All female bands over the years, writing songs for females regularly, his activism secretly done, 'Baltimore'...
      I don't think he'd have latched on to any specific ideal when he was already doing actions that spoke volumes.

      @@GuitarSoloReactions that makes sense. I just see so many new fans coming to him via the route of these later-career videos and I think it is fantastic that they hook people.
      I think the current promotion that they do of him always being the 25 year old Purple Rain character runs the risk of missing where people are finding him organically now.

    Another great reaction Brian! Thank you so much for doing my request!!! Such an amazing performance and a great song! One of the many things that I love about this particular performance is that you can feel his emotion and pain coming out of his guitar and through the screen. I think that the song had a special meaning for him at that point in his life. The song is about a relationship ending. Prince had, in the years prior to this performance, been going through a divorce. Also, some people may not know this but Prince and MJ were, according to Prince's band, very good friends. This performance happened less than a month after MJ passed away. Prince was actually in the middle of rehearsing for this performance when he received the news, at which point, he canceled rehearsals and locked himself in his room for weeks, and didn't come out. This performance was the first time he had been on stage performing after he lost his good friend. Also, his wife leaving. I believe that this song really hit home for him as the lyrics describe being left all alone and wondering how you are going to fill the hole in your life where that someone used to be. "Barren walls. Tears fall. What the use in cryin'? I gotta find a way to fill this empty room." are some of the lyrics. That is my take on why you could really feel his loss and pain in this particular performance. Great reaction again Brian! Can't wait for more!!!
