  • The Steep Gullies and Zuma Bowl at Arapahoe Basin are open for the 23-24 season!
I shot some GoPro footage of my first run down the Steep Gullies and Zuma Bowl.
The first run shown is Steep Gully #2 and the second run is Schauffler.
There was solid snow quality on these great Colorado double black diamonds!
Filmed at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area on the February 17, 2024

Just skied Schauffler yesterday - awesome. Any idea what the pitch is?

Not sure, but I'd guess that it's around 35 degrees, with the top section being quite a bit steeper because of the cornice.

Is this the chute on the far skiers left end? Remember that one being fairly wide comparitively whereas some of the chutes getcrazy tight

Kinda. This is the furthest to the skiiers left among the first group of chutes. You can actually keep going left through some trees and then there are a few more chutes. Those ones have a narrow choke but there aren't as many rocks to hit with your skis. That part didn't seem to open last weekend, but it will probably open soon.

I've seen ~ a dozen of these gullies by now, and each time I think, "gawd that would be brutal not knowing when where the rocks are sticking out each run." the big stuff is the same but every time I only see the little stuff just barely sticking out at the point where you just gotta get creative on the spot. yikes!

@@daneg it's true, you always need to be prepared for a few little surprises in terrain like this.
