This video got me thinking about how the rear dropouts in my vintage steel bikes are interesting. They have those bolts in them that lets you adjust the positioning in the dropouts. I have one bike I use for bike-packing and I set the rear almost all the way back and on my racier bike I push it all the way forward. I wonder how much people messed with these back in the day. Something to ask in the "steel is real" group on FB I guess.
Great bike! Just a reminder its suspension corrected too. I've got a lauf on mine with the carbon bars and carbon seat and its supple. Did you test the medium or the small? I got the medium but I probably would have been better off on the small. Great guys to work with though and the grx drive train is very nice!
The chain stay tuning chip is really cool. If the did that with the fork also like my ENVE Mtn fork that would make it the ultimate adjustable gravel rig.
My favorite bikes I realized all have longish chainstays, I don't notice a performance hit but they are more stable on descents and more comfortable on rough roads.
Don't care for carbon, but I check their website daily to see if they ever have the chromoly version (Waheela S) in stock. I would REALLY love an aluminum version, but unfortunately no one really does 6061 other than complete bikes like the Journeyman or Niner's which I wouldn't buy due to press fit BB.
Nice vid...did you mention the price? Regarding your statement that a newbie might not be able to tell the diff of the chainstays, while they may not know the diff, a certain setup will still result in certain handling characteristics...
@@PathLessPedaledTV I was just about to say that baby looked expensive just standing still. Just as well I didn't. When price is not mentioned, it's seldom because it's cheap...
@@PathLessPedaledTV fair, but price always part of the equation... sounds like you can do a whole video about what bike stuff cost. Sure we all make our own call on how much we spend on bikes and it might mean we spend less on there things.
Any chance to get an Otso in Europe / Germany? I'm especially interested in the steel Waheela, but it seems they are North America only...? Cheers and stay healthy! ✌
I'm curious how you'd set up your chainring set if you were to do one bike two wheelsets where you were planning on doing one of those on the road. I feel like that might be the case for something like a road compact (50/340) up front, and then like an 11-28 or 11-30 cassette on your road wheels and a 11-36 or similar in the rear, which gives you a sub-1:1 low end on your gravel wheelset but a steep enough gear on your road wheelset for riding quickly, even in a group where you might be in a draft.
My single speed has a wolftooth cnc 16t cog it. If is very well manufactured and sturdy. So if they made a bike it would be just well manufactured. I'm a bike nerd myself. I have so many frames that I usually build one up for someone that needs it and give it to them. Next my plan is to make my own single wheel trailer out old/ not used frames.
Dumb question: some of your point of view shots from on the bike (@2:53 in this video) show a string connecting to the drops on either side. Is that just stabilizing a bag or do you have some nifty gizmo we should know about?
Thanks. My "do everything" bike is an Ibis Hakka MX, and I love it. However, as noted here with the Otso--not as many mounting points as some might want / aka: I also have a touring bike.
Might be cool to have a middle setting with a different 'chip' setup dunno if it would make a huge difference but maybe a 3rd option for ultimate flexibility for all rider types. I think it's a cool idea and really like that it's there but I agree most people will probably leave it on one setting, but they get to find that setting and that's awesome!
Path Less Pedaled I apologize for my attempt at humor. I am a sheriff’s deputy on a deputies paycheck. Which to many peoples surprise is not that much. So I think price is important. I would love to afford an awesome gravel bike. Anyway I meant no disrespect sir. I’m going to just take my specialized pitch hard tail and I want to throw some Ritchie drops bars and some gravel supple tires on it. Not sure what else I need to put on it. Any suggestions?
Looks like relatively low stack on this with big jumps between sizes. 420 axle-crown is unusual. The flip chip analogy to Warbird/Warroad is helpful. There is still a lot to like about this one, esp wrt ride quality.
Otso sells a rear rack kit that includes a different rear chip for mounting points.
Great video! Thanks! I recently came across the Nukeproof Digger and purchased one. So far it has been great "do everything" bike.

I sell these guys at my Bike Shop. They're great. The rack option is a dropout kit.
Good to know. I was going crazy looking for the mentioned rack mounts.

Mike Jensen do you have the otso wheels S frameset now & if not when will U be getting in stock
lakisha weaks I have medium and large frame set. I’m not sure when they’ll be available again but it’s likely next year.
Ok Ty Mike I'm 5'3 going 2 need a size small hit as soon as U get 1. Al next year around what month so I can be on the look out

Sounds like a slacker midnight special, with the added feature of the extendable chain stay. Cool vid

I live a couple blocks from Otso/Wolftooth. Super cool folks working there.
I live by and know the people at Onyx hubs! MN bike proud!
Would be interesting to hear a comparison between the Waheela C and the Open U.P.
Limited mounting options? No problem. You could run Tailfin's rack system. One top bag + 2 panniers that gives you ~60L of storage.

I think the journeyman is BSA
I’d like to see a flip chip in the fork so you could tune the steering as well.
Tuning chip would make perfect sense if it had rear rack mounts. Then you could go from sporty bike to touring bike mode.
Nice vid...did you mention the price? Regarding your statement that a newbie might not be able to tell the diff of the chainstays, while they may not know the diff, a certain setup will still result in certain handling characteristics...
No. I've stopped mentioning price in videos because people always complain about the price of things.

Every time I mention price in a video half the comments are complaining about it. It's a battle I'm tired of fighting after 3 years.
Base price is $3600
If you get the whisky fork it has 3 bolts for racks!
440 chainstays, that's what I am talking about.
Any plans to review the new Velo Orange Pass Hunter?
Marin four corner is a good touring bike..? Is an endurance road bike makes the job done?
Not sure it's good practice but I always hit the thumbs up button while the intro ad is playing. I've never regretted it so far.
It helps the channel. Thanks!

Sure!
They added the fork mounting points on the most recent version!

Bag stabilizer.

So your saying buy a warroad/warbird/cutthrout, I see how it is ;)
So built around the 650B, could you still fit 700c if you wanted? I figure you could.
Sure.
Another great review thanks for putting this on my radar
How does it compare to the S and the Warakin?
Looks like a nice bike but you did not mention how much it weighed ?
Plans to review the Wilier Jena soon?
Any recommendations for Biking jerseys that can actually fit people who don’t have 3 percent body fat. I’ve been munching this quarantine.
Yeah. Fly fishing shirts.
Check out ANETIK
11-46 cogs? Whats the crank chainring size?
40t

There is a middle chip. I didn't think it made sense to talk about because it would be as one would expect, something in the middle.
Path Less Pedaled, ahhh of course they did, good to know. Thanks for the reply and cool reviews!
I went back to steel after over 20yrs this year I forgot how nice they are
Price price price. We are leaving out the price junior!
No longer listing prices since people always complain.

1X??? Forget it.
You can choose nearly any gruppo you want when you order. GRX600 x1 or x2 or 105 all start at $3600. Obviously you can spec nicer kit, wheels, etc.
I’ve heard less numbers rattled off in a math video.
Long = smooth. Short = quick non mathy enough? Bike design is angles and length. I can write a haiku about the bike but it wouldn't mean anything.
