    I love how one of the big subpolots of the entire movie is basically Rosencrantz unwittingly discovering classical mechanics, but not even remotely comprehending it, because Rosencrantz isn't particularly bright.

      Its just so perfect!!! That's how you do a lovable 'stupid' character. And its made even better by the fact that no one else realizes that he IS making theses gigantic discoveries!!!!

      Ah but he IS bright ... as his cleverness is also evidenced by his comeback at Questions... the classical “wise fool”, always maintaining a simplicity and childlike wonder at the world, a willingness to experience it directly without preconceived notions - something you or i can become too bored or anxious (two other wavering themes in the face of death in this play) by daily life to connect with very often

    So there are these two guys at my school that would play the question game all the time. Our school did "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead" and they ended up getting cast as R and G. They literally were the characters in real life and it was fun to see them play it out on stage.

      I admire both Roth and Oldman - and will watch for anything they are cast in. I had no idea this had been done . . .and when Lie to Me came out with Roth, I said to my husband "i wish someone would cast Roth and Oldman together - it would be brilliant." Then he found the film on Acorn TV today. This was fantastic on all levels.

    IF one were to imagine the stage-play Hamlet simultaneously being acted out in all its environments, by its characters (as it goes along), and at any junction wonder, Where are Rosencrantz and Guildenstern during all of this? And which is which ... or whom? To take the most immediate and literal opportunity, during the parallel scene in Hamlet, all we have of R & G is words and questions, thus far. But why would one ask, if focused on the play? Which play? Is there more than one? Is all the world a stage and ..? .. foul! no rhetoric.

    • @rybyandbenguy115
      @rybyandbenguy115 6 лет назад +14

      "Who do you think you are" is a rhetorical question that isn't expecting an answer. Its more what you say when you're mad at someone than what you say when you legitimately want to know who someone thinks they are. Since you're not expecting an answer, it isn't really a question. That's why it's considered rhetoric.
