thank you for creating this video. I am a doctoral student and music is fine. When you are focused on your study the last thing I worried about was the music. The information given in this video gave a brief and direct break down. Thank you
I wanted to watch your video- it seems great, BUT, I couldn't focus because the music is extremely distracting. Could you please re-post another version without music?
I really like that you did this video and the way you did it. It would be more awesome if the music weren't as loud as your voice, if that helps for next time (and if you haven't changed it already).
I am a doctoral student in clinical psychology and I have to disagree with some of the initial comments that I saw. I was not at all distracted by the music. I thought it was relaxing and added to the brief learning experience. I watched this video in order to gain a better understanding of what top-down and bottom-up perception means and I was able to get from this video what I could not clearly get from multiple journal articles and our course textbook. Thank you. I am looking forward to watching other videos on different topics.
+Danita Mixon Could not have agreed more. I loved the music. Was happy, light, and relaxing. but I can see how it could be distracting to others. I did like it though, personally!
With all due respect, whether you're a 'doctoral student in clinical psychology', a rocket scientist or a cleaner (no offence to cleaners intended) has absolutely nothing to do with whether you are distracted by the music or not. I don't understand the relevance of including you're academic qualifications. Whether music or anything else is distracting or not is purely a subjective experience. Your comment suggests that this music SHOULDN'T be a distraction according to your knowledge of psychology. Hmmm.....
@@ecurb10 Lmfao seriously! I am also a doctoral student in psychology (not kidding hahaha), but like what does that have to do with the music being distracting....? Unless I literally studied that and had relevant information to share.
m8 i hope the music got quieter in your more recent videos lol. just a little background noise and there's too much conflicting information that i can't even process the words
Very helpful, thanks. The music was distracting to me as well. There’s probably a correlation between those who have struggle with inattention and those who are distracted by the music.
This video was so helpful and easy to understand.... Thankyou! Those who could not concentrate at all because of the music (like me lol) try keeping the volume low and use captions.. hope tht helps :)
I'm currently studying psychology and am already preparing for the first exam. However, I'm stuck on a question/topic and can't get any further. Maybe someone can help me please. "Which direction of information processing sets in when you start worrying about going to the restaurant before entering the restaurant. What role do higher-level knowledge structures play, what role do environmental stimuli play?" ... I think it all has to do with scheme and bottom-up/top-down, but I don't quite understand what it has to do with thinking before entering a place. I don't understand that at all. It's about 2 work colleagues meeting again after a long time in a course "social cognition" but both of them didn't have much to do with each other before and the woman suddenly finds him sympathetic and that's why the two meet in a restaurant (but the story has nothing to do with love).
My only issue with top-down processing is that, at least according to your example, is that we have already seen what we are trying to get to in the dark. We couldn't have a concept of the refrigerator we are trying to get to unless we already know what our house looks like and where our refrigerator resides in the house. A better example would be a blind person; since they have no visual data to interpret, their entire world would be conceptual. I could be wrong, but this is just what I gathered from the video :)
+Harrison Dalrymple They can still hear, feel, smell, and taste. That's still bottom up so your example would be worse. Actually, almost all examples can be translated as being top down or bottom up, imo, it's fucking stupid.
But his point is that, in the particular situation described, you rely on memory from past experiences and from proprioception to make your way, rather than the senses. Hence "conceptual data housed within higher-order cognitive processes" influences behaviour. Originally of course you needed to record the data via your senses, but after that you rely on your memory.
So basically if we use top down processing on the mosquito analogy is that we know it is the sound of a mosquito because we have heard the sound and visually perceived the mosquito before?
The video is great but the music isn't it in my opinion. Kind of stresses me out, because it is relatively loud and much faster than the talking speed.
great information but the music is unpleasant, listening on headphones, the music is louder than your voice... I think it would be much better without music (zero - you don't need it!)

70% of RUclips videos in a nutshell :p

SoooTrue

Thank you it was well explained and really helpful
Top-down : from the brain to the world
Bottom-up: from the world to the brain
Oh thank you! This much more understandable than what my professor and textbook say! ouff...What a relief! Thanks a bunch!
this is so clear and super easy to understand . Crystal clear . Thanks for this , it really helps with my work now !

This was great. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video!
Thanks for the simple explanation, my teacher confuses me but you really put this up in an easy-to-understand way
I really like that you did this video and the way you did it. It would be more awesome if the music weren't as loud as your voice, if that helps for next time (and if you haven't changed it already).
Perfect! But why was the background commentary so loud? I couldn't listen to the music at all.
Thank you for the video - wish there was no music on it!

This was a very helpful video!! Thank you for updating it :) PS i love the music and animations, some viewers are just being mean for no reason.

cognition constructs perception and perception directs cognition

shame about the music being too loud and distracting

Good text. But music too loud. I cannot hear your speaking well.
Please lower the music. It’s very difficult to process what you’re saying
