I About 30 years ago I built a replica Lemon cap lock out of quality parts. Never had a bit of trouble, but have planned a long time on building a flinter. I've never had success with the 32 flint squirrel rifle I have, so thanks for the advice. I need all the help I can get.
nice tutorial. thing got a lot more simple when i learned hot water and maybe a little soap was all that was necessary to keep the ol smoke pole clean.
Hey Keith. That’s a good looking rifle. You mind telling the make and caliber? Im looking to get me one and that’s the style I’m leaning towards. Thanks.
Do u use an undersized cleaning jag to the caliber of your rifle? Could you do a video on taking the barrel off? Not much out there for videos on that. Rooting for you on Alone brother, I don't know who wins this year so we're supporting you up here in northern Wisconsin 👍
The jags are slightly undersized to caliber. I use modern cleaning brushes on a fiber cleaning rod made for flintlocks I got from TOW when at home. I will get that video out in the future and thanks for rooting for me !!!
Keith, what is your after-the-hunt or end of season cleaning like? How is it different? Insecurities about cleaning kept me away from flint for too long.
Great video! Did you render the bear fat into grease or purchase it somewhere, and if so, where? Hope you're staying warm this evening. Here in TN we're getting the cold white stuff right now ⛄❄.
We render a few gallons every year . We bear hunt in western NC and one of the group usually takes a bear. We rendered almost 3 gallons from the one I took this year.
I've made cordage out of cattail. Never thought of using it as a tow replacement. Good job, Keith!
Sharing this one to my Facebook page, mountain man long hunter and rendezvouz.
Good information, thanks.

If someone don't like this video they are dead inside and should go looking for their soul.
Chacote Outdoor Recreation 😂thanks !
Great 👍👍😃🇺🇸
Thanks!

I will pull the barrel and clean the lock more thoroughly being the biggest difference. Keep them clean and they will run fine. Thanks for watching.
Well done! Both the instruction and filming. Never thought of using catails in that manner. By retting I take it you mean soaking in water?
We just break them green for the fiber and let them dry. Good cordage too.
@@RamshackleHomesteadKeithandJen thanks!
Where did you aquire your flintlock?
Darren Glover it’s a TVM ( Tennessee Valley Muzzleloader) iron mounted Pennsylvania. I built it a few years ago. Good folks to deal with.
@@RamshackleHomesteadKeithandJen thank you
Do you coat the barrel afterwards to protect it from rusting after cleaning? I have been using sweet oil, but always looking for a better alternative.
Is that a wrist repair on the stock?
Good eye ! Fake wrist repair. I had a piece of barktan left over that fit perfectly.
We saw the Gar cleaning, where are the squirrels?

@@RamshackleHomesteadKeithandJen awesome Keith! I am hoping to get a bear in East TN. Thanks for doing these videos 👍.
Is that a 44" barrel on that rifle ?
Sagittariustoo close ! 42”
@@RamshackleHomesteadKeithandJen Thanks, it's a great looking rifle.
Who built it, if you don't mind me asking?
Sagittariustoo Keith did TVM with some parts he forged
Do a close up of your gun. It's hard to tell much about it in a general vid. Your knives and hawks too
What in Tarnation are you wearing?
Linen under shirt, breech clout and leggings
