Listening to this track in game, the lyrics seem vastly different than this version of the song. Including the song itself is different. I'm sure there's actually two versions of this song. Edit: Yes, there's indeed two versions of the song, one battle and one non-battle. However the lyrics are still different
It makes more sense if you played Episode 4, it plays during the mission when you fight Bethor. Most of the phantasms you fight in the Tokyo missions were those that Bethor controlled, including Train Ghidoran. The Tanks, Zombies, and Helicopters were the ones Hagith controlled.

I think it's because back then we're used to be more uplifted and inspired. this song kinda sotftens the loneliness a little bit, other pso2 songs gave me a similar feeling
Same here. But through my imagination - it's like ARKS agents and Earth Defense Force standing on the roof of skyscrapers, looking at the sunset/sunrise, saying something like: "Fighting for what we live. Living for what we're given." and then - they're arming photon arts/weapons and getting into the battle, on ground and in the air, opposing against phantasm and falspawn forces. Like this music is the final borderline to get the outcome - us, or them. Uniting all people together.
I think it might be the tone… I haven’t played through the whole game and I’m a new PSU player but I somehow feel hella nostalgic hearing this even playing PSO2 despite never have played any PSU titles before NGS.
"No matter, what country our home is... We are born on Earth. And this is our Homeworld! We will defend it! Whatever it takes!..." Don't know why, but that's what I get when playing on this map. Awesome track, yet for many people It doesn't mean something like this. Just my own imagination...
